Good place, post-stay stress

There is a stain on the carpet. Host has informed us a previous guest had a similar stain in the same spot but it was definitely a “new one”. We didn’t have pictures of the property upon entering because we got distracted by the delayed check in and the host seemed kind and trustworthy when dealing with that issue (She refunded one night and gave us a bottle of wine, which we sadly had to throw out as we didn’t have a corkscrew). Charging us for brand new carpet which was already stained per host. Probably charged previous guest too. I didn’t appreciate the accusatory tone when requesting payment. Host had to meet us and therefore at least saw my sister’s red hair. Yet stated we dyed our hair at the property. Didn’t check to see the towel that was thrown out was not her own but a cheap one we bought on the trip. I had no problem paying for bedding that may have been stained despite our efforts. Host stated we disappointed her despite her kindness in issuing us a refund and gifting us wine. It was a nice place aside from that issue. The only things of note aside from that are the door was glass by the bed which was odd, parking would be at the bottom of a hill if not allowed to park in driveway and the shower doesn’t have a door by design. Do yourself a favor and note any and all minor issues upon entering. Rental agreement and Vrbo policies don’t protect you. Take pictures and try other booking sites.

For clarification on this situation, a previous guest did stain the carpet, but it was in a different spot than the stain Yessenia made. I provided photo proof and was 100% certain it was caused during her stay. Yessenia also stained the duvet cover and sheets, which is only fair that she cover the cost of the damage. I did not charge her for the stained towel that she threw away since she claimed it was her own. Upon Yessenia's arrival, a worker had locked the gate on accident. I immediately dropped everything to come open the gate for her, and her check-in was delayed by 15 minutes. We have since removed the lock on the gate so this will never happen again. To apologize for the minutely delayed check-in, I refunded an entire night's stay and gave her a bottle of very expensive wine, which was very generous of me. I would have appreciated her leaving the bottle instead of throwing it away if she didn't want to use it. There is a cork screw in the casita, which she would have known if she opened either of the two drawers, or messaged me to ask. We are adding blinds to the glass door for added privacy & sun protection. We now allow parking in the driveway. It's a very good idea to take photos upon arrival & guests are welcome to. We take photos after every stay as well. The rental agreement protects both the host and guest and holds each party accountable for any damage they may cause. We value every one of our guests and strive to provide the highest standards.
