Quit retreat with a panoramic view

We had a wonderfull stay, beatyfull old house, with a lovely terrace , with a kiwi pergola, over the dining table, the pool is lovely to cool Down in and garden with chairs. You have the nature around you, and it is quiet. The owner of the house was very helpfull, when we wrote her. This is a place you dont want to leave. We hope to come back. Thank you for a wonderfull stay

Very remote

After a long day of driving we struggled a bit to get up the mountain. One of the access roads were closed and Italian mountain roads in general are not for the faint hearted.When you made it up there, the pool and views made it worthwhile. The house is nice and could be really awesome with a little more attention to detail.

Eugenio (my husband) and I purchased Casa Prosperi in 2015 and thus re-gained possession of the property which previously had been owned by Eugenio's ancestors. From his childhood, Eugenio spent his summer holidays in Riolo, but we now live in Cambridge (England)

The house is located on the edge of a small village in the hills above Bagni di Lucca. Somewhat distant from the buzz of the cities, it offers peace, fresh air and fresh, tasty water. Approximately 15 minutes by car is Montefegatesi, a lovely mountain village, and the Orrido di Bottri, the local nature reserve. Here you can: take a tour and explore the gorge by walking up the river bed, marvel at the wonderful wildlife - maybe spot a golden eagle or see some rare plant life, or simply have a lovely picnic and enjoy the peace and quiet. During the summer a fiesta is held there and local produce e.g honey or cheese can be purchased. There is also a large barbecue which is a great experience to mingle with the local residents and soak up the Italian lifestyle. Throughout the summer months many mountain villages in the area host their own fiestas, providing foods indicative of their area. A marvellous and exciting way to see and experience the real Tuscan life. Borgo A Mozzano is approximately 20 minutes away, by car, and has the famous bridge Ponte della Maddelena, also known as The Devil's Bridge. The city of Lucca is 30 minutes away and a magnet for Puccini fans. There is a museum dedicated to him and open air concerts are regularly held to celebrate his works.

The views from the house and garden are lovely. You will overlook the hills far into the distance, listen to the sound of silence, the sounds of the animals of the forest, and watch the eagles circling over the valley during daytime. At night you see a magnificent starred sky and fireflies and glowworms. There are lovely walks starting right from the house, and there are special places to visit Riolo, including Montefegatesi, the Orrido di Botri, and the Prato Fiorito.
Private car parking below the house. Pisa is the nearest airport approximately an hour's drive away 65 kilometres (40 miles.) Fornoli in Bagni di Lucca has a train station with a direct line to Lucca. Approximate distances to: Bagni di Lucca 4 miles (6.5km) - 10 minutes by car. Fornoli 4 miles (6.5km) - 10 minutes by car. Lucca 18.5 miles (30km) - 30 minutes by car. Pisa 40 miles (65km). Florence 60 miles (96.5km). Viareggio and La Versilia with is lovely sand beaches is approximately 50 kilometres (30 miles) away. Further Details: Within walking distance (ca. 30 minutes), there is a small bar in nearby Pieve di Monti di Villa, which is run by a local family. It has a small shop and an outdoor seating area. There is also the lovely lovely Rifugio Fiori in Pieve di Monti di Villa with a bar an restaurant. A few minutes further on by car, is another restaurant in Granaiola: Il Biribisso, Address: Nicola Dorati 44 Granaiola, Bagni di Lucca, Italy. This is a very nice and excellent restaurant with Italian cuisine (ca. 10 minutes by car, or ca. 45 minutes by foot, check opening hours). Average Prices: GBP 12 - 27. This restaurant is popular within the local area with residents and tourists alike. They also provide a pizza take away service. Bagni di Lucca offers a host of bars and restaurants, which is approximately 10 minutes down the hill. There is a night club in Chifenti, which is open during the weekend and also hosts musical events.
