À propos du quartier

Corea

We had the most delightful, relaxing family vacation at this property. Our family, including 14 adults and 6 children, found the Sea Captain's House a perfect blend of historic charm and modern conveniences and we spent a wonderful week there. The spacious kitchen and multiple refrigerators were more then sufficient for our group. The gardens and grounds were beautiful, including a kitchen herb garden, multiple flower beds and access to many hiking trails. There were games and books galore and a dining room that held our entire party. The children (18 months- 10 years) loved the private beach and the gentle waves of the harbor were perfect for them to play in without worry, They especially enjoyed the evening outdoors in the back yard watching shooting stars and fireflies as did the adults.Overall it was a memorable vacation for this family and we hope to be able to return for another.

This was the perfect rental for our family reunion. We had 17 people stay comfortably at this property. You could definitely house more! The great benefit is the bathrooms and showers. There is a bathroom in each room which was a selling point with so many people. Industrial kitchen, coffee pot and toaster were used regularly as well as the 3 refrigerators. There is a smaller 4th fridge for drinks if you need it. We like the calmness of the area. We traveled to the main entrance of Acadia and decided we preferred the less chaotic Schoodic side of Acadia which is right near this house. Schoodic Point is 5 minutes. Bonus is that this property has great trails to hike within the property. Ben was a fabulous host. I would stay again.

We had a great time at this house. It is in a great location, Ben (the owner) is easy to communicate with, and helpful with advice and suggestions. We had plenty of room for our family of 19 and enjoyed the amenities that are available. The house does need some updating and deep cleaning. We loved the history of the old home and understand the issues that come with old homes. Towels and refrigerators need to be replaced, and some furniture could be removed, for easier access around the house. The kitchen has a great stove and cooktop. We did enjoy all the bathrooms, but some were well-equipped, and others were not. We loved the access to the beach and Acadia National Park.

Ben was an amazing host. He asked us to text when we would arrive so that he could give us a tour of the house and outbuildings. He is such an amazing and super sweet man. Throughout the week, he was on location with property upkeep and maintenance of the grounds. The antique furnishings, the decor, the books in the house, the outside library, the amenities, the games both inside and outside, the close proximities to so much (beach, bayhead, Schoodic Peninsula with a portion of Acadia National Park, fresh seafood, etc.), and so much more. We will definitely be going back, whether during the summer for the whole house or in the fall when it is switched to a bed and breakfast. We have a very large family, and all of us enjoyed ourselves thoroughly!!! 100% recommendation!!!

Fabulous location across from sand beach

Family reunion—we rented both houses and enjoyed the large arts building for a music night and a talent show night. Ben was very kind and responsive about our accessibility needs. The location is great for Schoodic outings! We also had a fair share of great ice cream from nearby Me & Ben’s.

The Sea Captain’s House was perfect for our family. We had 23 people. Everyone had a place to sleep. The privacy with our own rooms with bathrooms was ideal. Main level bedroom was perfect for our 81 year old father. The kitchen was perfect with 3 refrigerators, coffee pots (not keurig), every little kitchen gadget you can think of. Walmart Plus delivers to location if needed. Gas grill and commercial grade stove perfect! Our family had game nights in the dinning area and if you wanted quite time you had your room or the library. The property was beautiful but the mosquitoes were hungry at dusk. Right across the street from the private beach. The crashing waves at night was a pleasure to fall asleep to. The cool air and breeze was refreshing. We had the best family vacation. Thanks for the amazing memories.Make note: this is a vintage house. We loved it.. small bathrooms in some of the rooms. There are 3 levels and stairs to climb. Not a problem for us.

A magical stay be the sea

This old house by the sea was our delightful home for a week. There was plenty of room for all 24 of us and so much to do in the area. Ben greeted us our first night even though we got in rather late and gave us so many wonderful suggestions - we didn’t have time for them all but definitely plan to come back again and try some more. If you want a modern place with huge bathrooms and doors that don’t stick, this may not be the place for you. But if you want a great place with plenty of modern conveniences - good Wi-Fi, great water pressure with plenty of warm water for everyone and a well equipped kitchen - you will be in for a magical treat. Thanks Ben! We’d love to come back!

Perfect

The property was the perfect accommodation for our family reunion of 21 people, a mixture of adults and children. Our host, Ben Walter, put it over the top. The property is ideally located in the Schoodic Peninsula away from the hustle and bustle of MDI but close enough to be able to visit. But the beauty of the Captain's House is its proximity to so much more. Don't spend all your days in the National Park, explore the region and take full advantage of Ben's knowledge. The house is circa 1860s with interesting history, well appointed with everything you need. Our entire family enjoyed their stay. One final point, if you don't like being lulled to sleep by the sound of gentle waves hitting the beach and fresh ocean breezes then this place isn't for you!

Great house, great area

Enjoyed our stay very much. The house is definitely older but well kept and charming. The host was exceptional in his attentiveness to our needs and gave great advice on the area. The beach was actually the most interesting feature for the younger ones, which included wading and gathering of shells and small ocean wildlife. The trails around the property were not well defined and we did get lost a bit. The kitchen was really well appointed for cooking large meals. It seemed to have everything needed except fresh food, which is available at several markets in the area. The local people of the Prospect Harbor area were uniformly friendly with a definite country feel, which is quite a contrast to the nearby but unmistakably touristy Bar Harbor. We had 18 staying in the house and there was plenty of room. The access to the recital hall was also a huge plus as it is a gorgeous room for having live music. The Schoodic Peninsula was a great outing and allowed for a beautiful rocky walk along the ocean point. Would definitely consider revisiting again!

Truly special property

Wonderful late 19th century home, very charming with essential amenities for a group as large as ours. We've traveled to many different destinations for family vacations throughout the eastern seaboard and lake front cottages over the past decade and can say this was a personal favorite. 200+ acres to explore with clearly marked trails on the property left us wondering why we'd even need to leave the schoodic peninsula for the larger park and tourist mess inside and outside or Bar Harbor. A variety of wildlife and flora greeted us on our hikes, and while we didn't catch a glimpse of any moose there was plenty to discover. Couple the woods with the beach directly across the street and the proximity of the fresh water pond for kayaking and you have a great location to appreciate the natural settings of eastern Maine. The children enjoyed perusing the library and vintage picture books--my daughter even dipped her toes in her first Shakespeare readings. The kids put on a brief theater performance at the conference/banquet hall and serenaded us with piano tunes. Some hangups we've experienced in the past while traveling with a large (18 person) group were alleviated by plenty of bathrooms/showers (each room has a private bath) and commercial range/oven, coffee maker etc. Plenty of utensils/dishware and a well stocked pantry of spice/storage made our meals much less stressful. The host, Ben, was a pleasure to work with and we thoroughly enjoyed the home baked pie on arrival!

We absolutely loved our stay here. Ben was incredibly helpful in recommending things—there are about a kazillion things to do and places to eat in the area and in Bar Harbor, and his guidance helped us to have a great stay. The house itself is awesome—lots of character, with bathrooms for everybody! Kids loved the beach across the street—tidal pools, wading, playing on the rocks—they spent ages out there. I can’t recommend this property or the Schoodic peninsula enough—it’s way cooler than the Mt Desert Island side of Acadia. :)

Property was excellent. House was clean and well stocked with bathroom and kitchen essentials. We loved having all the individual bathrooms in each bedroom. One bedroom on ground floor was great for couple with mobility issues. House was surrounded by beautiful flowers, trees and trails to walk. Beach is across street with easy access. Close to a few restaurants, gas station, Ice cream shop and small stores for groceries. Very close Schoodic area. We used the reception hall and were very happy with it. It doesn’t have bathrooms or water access but is right next to home so that wasn’t a problem for us. Ben the host was very responsive and greeted us upon arrival with so much information on things to do in surrounding area. I highly recommend the property, reception hall and host. If we have another big event we will definitely stay there.

Maine getaway

This spacious New England home offers a great location on Schoodic peninsula. It is an hour drive to Bar Harbor or the other side of Acadia National Forest which is a bit of a trek. The house has an ample kitchen and a great space where everyone can eat together which was one of the best parts of the house. The beds were comfortable. Each bedroom had a bathroom attached, but some of the showers were small. The decor was in keeping with house, but the family room/living room had a lot of dust in it that anyone with allergies or asthma would we affected. The owner and property manager were easily accessible for problems or questions. This house met our needs so that 7 couples each had their own bedroom and bathroom. Thank you for a great Maine adventure!

Vacation in coastal Maine

Beautiful location of an old historic house. Wonderful views from the bedrooms which were adequately furnished. The showers were disappointing however . Showers were small and some were not very clean. It’s a old house and the associated issues were not surprising. The house was more than adequate for our family of 11. Mr. Walter was very helpful and prompt in addressing a water leak during our stay. We enjoyed our stay in that part of Maine.

Great place for a family get together

We had a very nice stay. Ben and Shawn were very available when needed, very prompt to respond to requests and excellent to talk with. The beach is across the road as others mentioned, wasn’t a problem for us, however keep an eye on the little ones. The cars move fast. Ben had fantastic recommendations, we tried many of them because we wanted to avoid all the hustle and bustle, every last recommendation was spot on. The house was built over 200 years ago, so you need to keep that in mind. Rich in history I am sure. We talked many nights around the dining room table about what life would have been like on the property in the 1800’s. We really enjoyed ourselves! Thank you for the fantastic hospitality.

A week of cool breezes

The location of this property was perfect for us. We wanted easy access to a sandy beach and proximity to Acadia and natural areas. We loved having seafood on the wharf in the nearby village without crowds. Our grandchildren played in the water and on the rocks endlessly . The 9-bedroom house has a large, restaurant-style kitchen with 3 fridges, which accommodated us well. The house is old and thus can have problems old houses have, but the owner is responsive. We sometimes experienced interruptions with internet service, which could be due to the provider. We felt the location and surroundings made this a good choice for being outdoors in the best of coastal Maine.

Big family get together

We had a wonderful week at the sea captains house. The house itself is big and well appointed for a large group like ours. The restaurant style toaster and coffee maker were a big plus for breakfast! The bedrooms and bathrooms are a bit shabby and could do with an update but they suited our needs just fine. Ben was helpful with information about the area and left a lovely cobbler for us on the first night. He stopped by the house more often than most rental hosts I’ve had in the past. The nearby beach is stunning with lovely rocks to climb on and tide pools to explore in addition to swimming. I didn’t realize when we booked that it was across a road which made it a bit trickier to just let the kids roam. But the natural beauty of the place more than made up for it! As a heads up, one of our guests was in a wheelchair and while there is a ramp into the house, it was a pretty tight squeeze getting around inside the house and the porches were a step down which made them a hard to navigate. This was ok for us because we had a lot of people to help with lifting the chair in and out but it’s something to keep in mind if accessibility is an issue. Overall we had a nice week in a beautiful part of Maine.
