Perfect Fall Getaway
This is a fabulous property. The character of the cabin is charmingly eclectic.....rustic meets modern. The choice of building materials both inside and out just makes for a really fun place. It is very tidy and super clean. It is very peaceful and quiet....at least in the Fall when I stayed there. The view from dock at lakeside is awesome.....I particularly enjoyed the Fall colors. The access to a canoe, rowboat, and kayaks is a nice added benefit, although I got to go out on the lake only once because it was windy most of the time......typical Midwest October. The only downside to consider is that the climb from the shore up to the cabin is a decent workout......no problem for young folks or someone in at least reasonable shape, but some elderly people might not be able to handle it well.
One thing I really appreciated was the small 1 bedroom size. That’s a bit rare. You get a really nice place for a relatively good price because you are not paying for more square footage than you need if you are a solo person seeking solitude, or a couple looking for a perfect getaway.
I will likely book this place again. I very much appreciated the opportunity to stay here!
Needed more information
Home looked like pics. Understood no cable tv but it did not state no television at all other than using it for dvd's. We thought we would have local weather at least. We lost power for 6+ hours and had no flashlights or candles noted in home manual to help us see. Lake was beautiful but steps down to lake were very narrow and incline was extremely steep, which we would have appreciated knowing ahead of time.
I appreciate your feedback! Those are all valid points, and I am sorry I did not better prepare you for the truly rustic nature of our cottage. We had 2or 3 flashlights up there at one point in case of power outages, but I will be sure to check that they are still there for next season! I don’t have candles as they can be a fire hazard. I had meant to communicate that we do not have TV- as I am so used to cable being the main source- again sorry for any confusion. We did add Internet this past season, so some people use that to get weather or use a fire stick for TV. However, that can be spotty in such a rural area and would go down in a power outage as well. Again, thank you for your feedback- we will work to add more detail to our cottage description and information so our guests are adequately prepared!
We loved the cottage - beautifully decorated and a great size for two of us. Not too big and not too small. Everything is thoughtfully organized and there wasn't anything we needed that wasn't there.
We biked (it's worth a trip over to the Old Abe trail in Cornell, WI), hiked (at the nearby Chippewa Moraine State Rec Area) and used the kayaks on the lake. And spent many, many hours on the screened porch just relaxing and enjoying the quiet.
The photos of the Frey family at the cottage from the 50s are very fun to look at.
A truly great stay and we hope to be back again. Thank you!
Relax and Recharge
The property was everything we expected. Very comfortable for two folks and their two dogs. Enjoyed not having TV news for 10 days, hence the "relaxing." We did have rain several times during our stay, which gave us the motivation to visit the Norske Nook in Rice Lake a couple times for the sinfully delicious pies. We would return in the future.
