This house is high on the side of Prospect Mountain. AWD/4WD is mandatory in the winters. The roads are plowed, but there`s no guarantee it`ll be done at a convenient time.
Check in at 4pm or later; check out at 10am or earlier and we can`t make exceptions. No pets or smoking. 6 guests 7 3 cars max. Our cleaning fee is lower than most because guests agree to start a load of dishes and towels on checkout.
Do NOT leave food in your cars. There is a resident bear on Prospect Mountain.

Welcome to The Black Bear Cabin, where you can watch wildlife and wildflowers from a spa on a deck that overlooks a lake and mountains. This cabin is perched high on Prospect Mountain, with panoramic views of Marys Lake, Prospect Mountain, Kruger Rock, Twin Sisters, the Crags, Longs Peak, Lily Mountain and Mount Meeker. Doesn`t get much better than this!
We love the location -- the house buts the Prospect Mountain Open Space, a city-owned nature preserve home to great rock climbing and hiking, as well as bobcat, bear, elk and much more.
The best part: the views. They are incredible. Sitting in the hot tub at sunset is sublime. The outdoor dining area next to the hot tub is where you`ll likely eat breakfast, lunch and dinner all summer. Windows frame the Continental Divide like a living postcard.
It`s also super convenient that the hiking trail up Prospect is just seconds from the front door.

Our home sits on the flank of Prospect Mountain and abuts the Prospect Mountain Open Space, a new city park with hiking and climbing. You can leave our house and immediately hope on the hiking trail, which winds you through pine and aspen groves to incredible lookouts. Be warned that this is a wild area and there are bear, mountain lion, bobcat and much more. Do not leave food in your car.
NEIGHBORS & NOISE
We do have neighbors and it is super super important to respect their quiet and solitude. Parties and loud music that can disturb them is not allowed.
SMOKING AND FIRES
Smoking is not allowed on the property due to high fire danger. Sorry! Also, outdoor wood fire pits and charcoal grills are illegal in Estes. Gas is OK.
AIR CONDITIONER
Like nearly every other home in town, thereâs no A/C. Thankfully mountain air blows down from the high peaks and will cool down the place quickly in the evenings if you open the windows.
BEARS
Do NOT leave food in your car! Bears frequent this area and can break in!
MINUT
We use a Minut noise meter. It doesn`t record audio, but instead monitors decibel levels, temperature and humidity. This is for the safety of guests & to protect the home. It also serves to warn us about parties & prevent noise complaints from neighbors.
SECURITY
We have security cameras on the north side of the garage and a Ring doorbell. They record audio and motion 24/7 for guest safety and home security.
* After booking, guests may be asked to review and accept a standard rental agreement covering house rules, safety disclosures, liability, and damage responsibility. This agreement does not modify pricing, cancellation terms, or refund policies presented on Vrbo and is intended to be consistent with Vrboâs terms and the listing details.
