The Nene Hideaway is the perfect home for those who seek to be mere steps away from Hilo's fantastic beach parks while not being exposed to a busy beachfront roadway. Richardson Beach Park is a casual 4-minute walk from this home, nestled around the corner on Nene Street, a peaceful, jungle-lined lane. Our home gives you the highly desired yet hard-to-come-by combination of excellent beach access and privacy at the same time. It truly is a gem in the jungle!
Richardson Beach Park is Hilo's premier oceanic park, with fantastic snorkeling, fun surf, and great swimming. It has a rare black sand beach with a lifeguard tower. Honu (Hawaiian green sea turtles) and humuhumunukunukukapua'a (the state fish) can often be seen swimming in Richardson's waters. The shores of Richardson blend directly into a half-mile-long stretch of fantastic beach parks with beautiful bay views, nooks and crannies to explore, and sheltered picnic pavilions.
A lovely mile walk (or drive) up Nene Street from the home will take you to another one of Hilo's top beach parks, Carlsmith. Carlsmith is a great swimming beach with a sandy bottom, and honu are frequently seen swimming in the waters. Our home is only 5 miles from various grocery and box stores and Hilo's Bayfront shopping district, where you will find the famous Hilo Farmer's Market, antique and souvenir shops, and incredible restaurants. Hilo International Airport is a simple 12-minute drive. Our home is an excellent base for exploring Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, the waterfalls of the Hamakua Coast, and all the lush jungle parks on the windward side of the Big Island of Hawaii.
The Nene Hideaway is a spacious two-bedroom, two-bathroom home with a lovely lanai for outdoor living that seamlessly flows into the indoor spacious living area and a well-equipped kitchen. On the property, you will see bamboo, hibiscus, banana plants, avocado trees, and other tropical plants. There is covered off-street parking. The home has stairs, which are unsuitable for those unable to do stairs. See the photos below for further details on the home's accommodations.

Peaceful setting but steps away from the most beautiful black sand beach in Hilo. The two floors were perfect for our group, with separate bedrooms and bathrooms. Kitchen and dining room were well appointed, just like home. Relaxing vacay!

We loved our stay. Property is well maintained and location is ideal. Just a few minutes walk to some excellent snorkeling. The owners were very responsive and attentive. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

Conveniently located
We took a short trip to Hilo to relax and do some touristy things. The accomodations were clean, comfortable, and nicely appointed. We particularly liked the food trucks a short drive away. The location provided wonderful access the many nearby beach parks, and great accessiblity (by car) to downtown Hilo and its environs.

Wonderful home and location
Very cute cottage like home with great personal touches and great additions. Loved the sweet little cookies and drinks left for us, the towels and beach equipment were also great. Comfortable beds and great yard with greenery

Amazing stay in quiet serene place. Everything we needed for our adventures was on hand. A quick easy trip for groceries completed it all. Short beautiful walk to Richardson beach and not far from some great snorkeling with many turtles and beautiful fish. I was even able to look some up that I didn't recognize in books that were provided. We made an impromptu trip at 3am to watch episode 26 erupt! Went spelunking in the lava caves and enjoyed shave ice and malasadas. Wonderful lanai for morning coffee and relaxing evenings. We love the fresh produce on trees in the yard and all the tropical sounds. Hilo Farmers market is a must. Highly recommended and we will definitely be planning our next stay here. Thank you!

We had the most wonderful stay at Robert and Erin’s place in Hilo. Every detail was thoughtful, from the shampoo and conditioner available in each shower, to the snacks, to all the beach equipment, to the fully stocked kitchen, to the washer and dryer. There was nothing we needed that they didn’t have. They were quickly responsive to any questions we had. The house itself was perfect for our family of five - the two adults stayed in the bedroom upstairs, and the three kids shared the bedroom downstairs (and bonus-they had their own bathroom!). The neighborhood is quiet and a very short walk to Richardson’s beach. Carlsmith beach, just a few minutes’ drive away, was our favorite though, because that’s where we got to swim with sea turtles. The location was also ideal for all of our adventures - Punalu’u beach and the volcano national park were two favorites. Were we to visit again, we’d gladly stay in this house again. We were sad to leave it!

We try to set the house up so our guests don’t feel like they have to immediately run to the store to buy the basics… we want our guests to ump right in to enjoying the space and the location as soon as they get there. This is a beautiful property and very convenient to one of the best beaches in Hilo. The owner is very helpful and responsive to all my questions. I gave four stars because there are missing amenities that are important to me and my family, such as a/c, dishwasher, blackout curtains. We had the fans on all day and night but not enough to cool down the house especially in the afternoon. The heat drained my energy on our first day. The neighbors dog barked a lot on our first night, we couldn’t close the window to lessen the noise because we needed to leave it open to keep the master bedroom a little cooler than the rest of the house. The next morning, we told the owner the noise issue, they contacted the neighbors and there were no more dog barking at night the rest of our stay.
