FALL IN WALLA WALLA WINE COUNTRY — FIREPLACE, GAME ROOM, FENCED YARD, SLEEPS 8

There is a particular kind of Walla Walla weekend that only happens in autumn. The fruit is coming in, the crush pads are running, and every tasting room downtown is pouring something that was still on the vine a few weeks ago. The Blue Mountains go gold behind town. The evenings get cold enough that you want to be indoors by seven, and glad about it.

The problem with that weekend is usually the house. You book something downtown and pay for a location you leave at nine in the morning anyway. You book something charming and discover it sleeps six in four beds, has one bathroom, and a staircase your parents should not be climbing. You book something with a yard and find out the dog is not actually welcome. And then it rains on Saturday afternoon and eight adults are sitting in a living room looking at each other.

This house was set up by someone who has hosted that exact weekend many times and built for what actually goes wrong.

WHAT YOU GET

Three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, sleeps eight, entirely on one level with no stairs anywhere. A gas fireplace in the living room that runs all fall and winter. A two-car garage converted into a private game room. A fully fenced backyard where dogs are welcome with no size restriction. A keypad on the front door, so nobody is waiting on a key handoff after a long drive.

College Place sits at the quiet edge of the valley. Downtown Walla Walla and more than a hundred tasting rooms are ten minutes away, Walla Walla University is about a mile, and Whitman College is twelve minutes. Close enough that nothing is a project, far enough that you can hear the evening.

THE LIVING ROOM

The gas fireplace is the reason this house works in October and November rather than merely existing in them. It sits at the center of an open living room with sectional seating for the whole group and a large TV mounted above. The patio slider opens straight onto the fenced yard, so on a warm afternoon the two spaces run together and on a cold night the glass just gives you something to look at while the fire is going.

This is the room where a group that has been tasting since eleven finally sits down. Somebody opens the bottle they liked best. Somebody else falls asleep in the recliner. Nobody minds.

THE KITCHEN AND THE DINING ROOM

This is a working kitchen, not a vacation kitchen. Full-size refrigerator and freezer, electric range and oven, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, blender, kettle, baking sheets, wine glasses for everyone, and enough counter to actually cook on. A deep prep island with bar-stool seating gives you a place to stand and talk while somebody else works. The Keurig and drip coffee station is stocked and ready before the first person is up.

The dining room is the surprise. A crystal chandelier hangs over a white farmhouse table ringed with tufted velvet wingback chairs and bench seating, with wine-themed artwork on the walls. It seats the whole group without anyone eating off their lap. This is the table where the good bottles from the day get opened and compared, and where a Thursday dinner turns into a two-hour conversation.

THE GAME ROOM

The two-car garage has been fully converted into a private entertainment lounge, with epoxy floors and real lighting rather than a bare bulb and a workbench.

Inside: an ESPN dual-arcade basketball shooter, cornhole boards, a leather reclining sofa, and a wine-barrel bar table with stools. It is the space guests mention in their reviews and the one that quietly rescues the trip when Saturday turns grey, which in a Walla Walla autumn it eventually will. Teenagers disappear into it. So do their parents.

THE BEDROOMS

Three bedrooms, four beds, set up for guests rather than simply furnished. Each has layered bedding and proper linens, real bedside lamps, room-darkening shades for anyone who wants to sleep past the light, hangers, and clothing storage so a three-night stay does not mean living out of a suitcase. Two full bathrooms mean eight people get out the door in the morning without negotiating. Washer and dryer are in the house, which matters more than people expect on a harvest weekend spent outdoors.

THE BACKYARD

Entirely yours. No shared spaces, no neighbours overhead, no gate anyone else uses. A four-burner gas grill stays out year-round, so grilling in November is a decision rather than a project. There is a full outdoor dining set with an umbrella, patio seating, string lights strung overhead, and a fenced lawn that the dog can simply be turned loose into after five hours in the car. Dogs are welcome and there is no size restriction.

WHAT IS AROUND YOU IN AUTUMN

Wine. Crush runs from early September through the end of October, and it is the best time of the year to be in this valley. Downtown Walla Walla's walkable tasting-room district is ten minutes away with more than a hundred producers pouring. Pepper Bridge Winery and its sister house Amavi Cellars are fifteen minutes out through the vineyards. Seven Hills Winery is twelve. Fall Release Weekend in early November is the biggest wine weekend on the valley's calendar and books out across town well ahead of time. Holiday Barrel Weekend follows in early December with the tree lighting and the holiday parade downtown.

Campus. Walla Walla University is about a mile away, which makes this house a natural base for move-in weekends in September, for WWU Family Weekend at the end of October, and for anyone visiting a student through the term. Whitman College is twelve minutes, and Whitman Family Weekend lands in late October.

Autumn outdoors. The Blue Mountains colour up through October. Fort Walla Walla Museum sits five minutes away on a 700-acre preserve with walking trails and disc golf. Pioneer Park is ten minutes. Bennington Lake is twenty, good for a cold clear morning walk. Wine Valley Golf Club, one of the best public courses in Eastern Washington, is ten minutes and plays beautifully in the fall air.

Eating. Rogers Bakery for maple bars and apple fritters. The Patisserie for French pastry and espresso. The Happy Wanderer for handmade tortillas and the best salsa bar in the valley. Salted Mill for a proper dinner. Hop Thief Taphouse when somebody has had enough wine.

GETTING HERE AND GETTING AROUND

Walla Walla Regional Airport is fifteen minutes away with daily service from Seattle. Rideshare in this valley is limited and not something to build a day around, so bring a car or arrange a local driver for the day you intend to taste seriously. Two free off-street driveway spots come with the house, plus free street parking for anyone extra.

ARRIVING

Keypad entry on the front door. No key pickup, no lockbox fumbling in the dark, no meeting anyone. Your check-in instructions arrive before you do, and your host is reachable by message throughout your stay.

THE POINT

You came for the harvest, the release weekend, the campus visit or the family Thanksgiving. What you need is a house where eight people can sleep well, cook a real dinner, keep the dog with them, and still have somewhere good to be when the weather turns. That is this house, and the fire will be on.

À propos de l’hôte

Image de profil de l’hôte
I live in Bonney Lake, Washington, but part of my heart has always been in the Walla Walla Valley.
My son and his family are rooted here, and what started as trips to visit them turned into something I did not expect. I fell in love with this place. The wine, the landscape, the way a weekend here slows down in exactly the right way. After enough visits, it stopped making sense to just pass through and start making something more permanent.
So I created this home. A place where my family can gather when we are all together, and a place I can share with other travelers when we are not here. Every room was put together the way I would want it for my own family, because that is exactly who I had in mind when I set it up.
I chose this neighborhood deliberately. It sits at the edge of town, quiet and safe, with room to breathe. Less than a hundred yards from the front door is the walking path that leads toward Whitman Mission, and Walla Walla University is less than half a mile away. It is the kind of neighborhood where you can walk out in the morning with a cup of coffee and actually feel like you are somewhere, not just parked near a freeway exit.
When you stay here, you are staying in a home I genuinely love, in a valley I keep coming back to as often as I can. I want your experience here to feel the way mine always does. Like you found something worth returning to.

Voici pourquoi l’hôte a choisi cet hébergement

It sits at the edge of town, quiet and safe, with room to breathe. Voici ce qui rend cet hébergement unique

This home is brand new, built and furnished from the ground up with a specific guest in mind: groups and families who want more than a place to sleep between winery visits.
Most rentals in the valley give you a comfortable room and a nice location. This one gives you a converted game room with an ESPN dual-arcade basketball shooter, cornhole, a leather reclining sofa, and a wine barrel bar that becomes the unofficial headquarters of the trip by night two. It is the kind of space that keeps the group together and the energy going without anyone having to leave the property.
The layout is designed for families and groups to spread out without losing each other. The living room, game room, dining room, and backyard each have their own personality, so eight people can be in four different moods and everyone finds their spot.
The fenced yard gives families with dogs and kids a private outdoor space that is entirely theirs, no shared common areas, no neighbors looking over the fence, just a quiet corner of wine country that belongs to your group for the weekend.
And the location ties it all together. Edge of town, walkable to the Whitman Mission path, less than half a mile from Walla Walla University, quiet, safe, and ten minutes from over a hundred tasting rooms.
There is not another property in the valley that puts all of that in one place.
