Magnifiquement maison retirée près de la plage surplombant Skye

Standing above Lochalsh in its own secluded grounds and surrounded by the National Trust for Scotland woodland gardens. South facing and in a magnificent setting with wonderful views of sea and the mountains of Skye rising to over 1000m. Although extremely private, lying along its own track of around 300m, it is only 3-4 minutes by car to Kyle of Lochalsh which has a railway station (the scenic railway line to Inverness really is world famous!) a bank, shops and an excellent supermarket. There is also a smaller supermarket and Post Office about a mile away. Our garden has a large lawn and is planted with Magnolias and mature species Rhododendrons from Bhutan, China and Nepal and which flower from February until August.
Doubled glazed with fitted carpets throughout; night storage heating and wood/coal burning stoves; both off-peak and instant electric hot water. If you want to keep in touch, we offer free Fast Fibre Wireless broad band WiFi. It is a wonderful location with great privacy. The skies above us in winter are ink-black and intoxicating - perfect for star-gazing! (when did you last see the Milky Way .....?!)

A lovely 3 bedroom cottage with lots of original features. It is at the top of a narrow private driveway which we managed easily but it might be a bit tight for a large SUV or people carrier. All the amenities you need for a for a peaceful ,relaxing stay.

The view from this property was stunning!! This VRBO was clean and comfortable. We loved being tucked away from the city but still close to Kyle and all of the attractions in the area. We enjoyed many meals sitting at the table looking out over the water. Its a great place to get-away from it all.

What a beautiful place and great location. You cannot beat the stunning scenery and the wonderful fresh ocean air.The beds were so comfortable, house very clean and loads of privacy. This cottage was a bit tricky to find, in spite of the detailed directions given to us, but well worth the moments of confusion. The cottage is very quaint, comfortable and has a wonderful view of the inlet. Pros: The view is absolutely beautiful and is the highlight of this property. The house itself is charming and full of character, and the heater works well once you figure out how to use it. The property manager was also very responsive and quick to answer questions.Cons: The beds are quite old and uncomfortable. There was no laundry detergent provided, and the information booklet is several years out of date, making it less helpful than expected. We've traveled extensively throughout the UK and Europe and have come to appreciate the small kitchen conveniences many vacation rentals provide such as tea, coffee, cooking oil, and basic spices but none of these were available here. Overall: If you're looking for spectacular views and don't mind sacrificing some comfort and amenities, this property delivers. In our opinion, you're primarily paying for the incredible location and scenery.

Dear Christianne, Thank you very much for your detailed review. Actually we do provide washing machine tablets for all our guests. They are in the cupboard under the sink to the right. I'm glad that you found the new gas central heating works well! I'm not sure how to reply about beds because other guests have liked them very much. The large double bed in the master bedroom is nearly brand new and simply I think that people have different preferences. I'm glad that you found the views spectacular! We now send detailed information in the email you received, "Balmacara, Glenelg, and Skye - things to see and do", but there are still information leaflets available in the hall. As with our other cottages, we have been advised not to leave perishable foods like cooking oil (even though we produce our own extra virgin olive oil at our property in Italy!), coffee or tea. So apologies for that. I'm just delighted that you loved what you described as the "incredible location and scenery". With best wishes, Anna

Great location, very comfortable cottage! We were 2 couples staying and found it spacious and loved waking up and overlooking the water! Beautiful old cottage!

This was a wonderful place to stay in Balmacara, near Kyle of Lochalsh. The neighbors told us the history of the house. The area was wooded and quiet! I cannot recommend this place highly enough!

Lovely older home and good location for getting onto Isle of Skye. It rained quite heavily during our stay and was very windy. Something kept hitting the second floor of the house due to wind making it difficult to sleep. Skye is beautiful, even in the rain. It takes a while to drive to places, so plan accordingly.

Close to Kyle and Skye with Fabulous Views

The vintage cottage was quite charming. Our family enjoyed the close proximity to Isle of Skye and the tranquility of being nestled in the woods after a full day of exploring. As others have stated - the views were beautiful, even in the rain!Host communications was excellent. They provided clear instructions and a list of things to see and do in the area. Home is close to groceries and dining options. Kitchen is stocked with all of the essentials. Beds are comfortable and extra blankets are available.

The area was beautiful. We had an SUV that we could barely get through the gate & very hard to turn around. The house was old but very eclectic. It was damp & cold. It was kinda difficult having the bathroom on the first floor with all the bedrooms upstairs but luckily we didn’t have problems with stairs.
