Great place to stay

Check in and out was easy. The cottage was great with everything we needed. The cottage was clean and nicely decorated. We would definitely stay here again. Sophie had fresh flowers on the table and a cherry tart for us.

Wonderful Experience

The cottage was lovely, clean, and is in a great location. The best place we've stayed in Door County! We really enjoyed staying. Sophie ensured everything was to our liking upon arrival and touched base during our stay to see if we needed anything. We would definitley stay again.

Fantastic stay!

Such a great Door County getaway spot! Easy 5 minute walk to great sunset views, coffee houses, tavern, restaurants, cider house and more! We had daytime temps in the low 80s in July, and the A/C kept the whole house comfortable. Easy drive to Sister Bay. Loved it!

Ellison Bay Beauty

I love the northern Door and Ellison Bay in particular. This home’s location is perfect for us. Walkable to the waterfront and several shops/restaurants. Biking in the area is wonderful. We enjoy the wraparound porch. The owners are kind and communicative. Thanks for having us!

While taking a class at The Clearing

Ellison Bay is a very rural area and, at least when we were there in early June, not crowded. Sophie's place was conveniently located near a nice coffee shop and a few restaurants. Sophie lives nearby and is accessible via cell phone. She checked in several times with us to see if we needed anything. The house was comfortable.

Another lovely springtime stay

We love staying in this perfectly-situated cottage in Ellison Bay. I'm not sure, but I think this might be our 9th time staying there. We love the northern part of Door County, and Ellison Bay in particular. And communication with Sophie is always easy and very cordial and pleasant. AND she allows our dog to stay! VERY grateful for this! Thank you!

Lovely May visit

We're now regulars to this Ellison Bay cottage and this was a great visit. We love the location and the cottage itself and communication with Sophie is always clear and friendly. We are so grateful that they continue to let us bring our well-behaved dog. We have a wonderful time taking walks, playing on the beach, and relaxing there. Thank you!

Ellison bay bungalow

Loved my stay here! Excellent location for my week stay....appreciated all the special touches Sophie provided like fresh flowers, chocolates, coffee, etc. that are above and beyond other VRBO stays I've enjoyed. This is an old home with character, that you wish the walls could talk and tell you stories. Very comfortable and clean and just what I was looking for. I already plan to reserve it again next year ;>)

Early fall in Ellison Bay

We love this cottage. We love its location and cleanliness, and we are always so grateful that Sophie continues to allow our well-behaved dog to come and stay. Charming Cottage

We enjoyed our stay at Sunny Cottage in Ellison Bay. The walkable location is wonderful. We enjoyed the wrap around porch, peace and quiet. The cottage is well furnished and pleasant. Communication with the owner was great - promptly responsive. The fresh flowers and cherry tart were nice touches. We were glad to be able to bring our little dog with us as well. A Relaxing Getaway

My wife and I recently stayed here for 2 weeks and had a nice relaxing getaway. The cottage was clean and comfortable. It is located within walking distance of several shops, restaurants, a general store and a community beach. It is far from the maddening crowds of Sister Bay but close enough to head in for dinner and shopping. Sophie is an attentive owner and was communicative throughout our stay. Loved the fresh flowers and cherry tart that were there when we arrived! This is an ideal location from which to explore northern Door County and we can't wait to return!

Relaxing cottage

If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing cottage in Door County, then this is the place for you. It’s the perfect size for a small group or a couple, it was very clean, it is super cute, the wrap around porch was the perfect place to enjoy our morning coffee, and there were hummingbirds right outside the front window. We also found fresh flowers on the table and a very delicious cherry tart when we arrived, what a nice surprise! Sophie is a great communicator and got back to us quickly when answering questions or just checking in to see how our stay was going. My husband and I can’t wait to go back. This was our first time staying in quiet Ellison Bay and it did not disappoint.

Nice cottage- ideal location

My wife and I stayed at the Sunny Cottage in Ellison Bay. We come to Door County in early summer and again in fall each year. We prefer northern Door County since we do a lot of hiking and fishing. We found excellent restaurants in both Gills Rock and Sister Bay. We also have the option of taking the ferry over to Washington Island for a quick day trip. The cottage is clean and nicely decorated, the owner (Sophie) was kind and accommodating. Upon our arrival we found several pleasant surprises (fresh cut flowers, organic coffee, dark chocolate). We are planning a return to northern Door this fall, Sunny Cottage will no doubt be on our short list.

Home needs a refresh

My friend has stayed here twice before & I came as her guest on this visit. She would never write a negative review, but I think the owners will appreciate some honest opinions. Basically, the whole cottage is in need of a "refresh" Walls were covered in dead bugs...some with blood swipes from dead mosquitoes. New window treatments (faux wood blinds would be much better than the current mismatched plastic, crooked, knotted ones.) Window in 1 bedroom is stuck open. No amount of jiggling would close it. Small window A/C unit in living room is not actually installed. Gaping openings at window sash left us with tons of bugs, especially mosquitoes, and we were bitten to extremes. My friend tried to remedy this by shoving kitchen towels into the gaps. Unsightly, for sure, but helped with all the bugs. Lamps in each bedroom were broken. My friend tried to turn hers on and a metal piece went straight into her thumb (the plastic on/off switch was missing so only a sharp piece of metal remained.) Lamp in other room also would not turn on at all. Futon in living room is extremely uncomfortable for sitting & reading/relaxing. I think a pull out would work better. The newer ones with Casper mattresses are pretty comfortable for both sitting and for use as an extra bed. Definitely the cleaning could have been better. There was quite a bit of dirt, dust, & debris under both beds & futon. A few ideas for a more comfortable stay: Small nightstands near beds with reading lamps (that work.) Cottage sleeps 4 so more than 1 towel bar would help. I had to drape my wet towel over a wooden chair every night and worried about staining/warping. Wall Hooks. Several by the front door for jackets, bags, etc. A couple of hooks in the bedrooms to hang a sweater, pj's and the like (not much storage as it is now.) More hangers would be great, too! Double beds were pretty rickety. It was just my friend and myself, but I would be nervous to have my husband on the bed with me as they are kind of cobbled together with a combination of metal & random pieces of wood. Mattresses were ok for a short stay, but by week's end I was ready for something more sturdy. My friend has been staying in Nor' Door for 30 years & explained to me that it's harder to buy things up there & often it requires a trip to Green Bay to purchase new items. That helped put the quality of the furniture into better perspective, but an after season trip into Green Bay is in order, for sure. Beautiful Outdoors!
