Great location but need updating

Church Cottage in Thornham is ideally based for exploring the North Norfolk Coast and it is situated overlooking open fields towards the Marsh, and coastline. There is also off road parking which really convenient. Inside there is a well equipped kitchen. We didn't find the old sofas in the lounge particularly comfortable. There were too many odd chairs everywhere and it all looked like a second hand furniture shop. We found the bed comfortable but when saw the mattress underneath the plastic sheet we were disappointed to see that it was unpalatably stained. Overall this cottage needs updating, but the bonus was that that despite it being cold outside the heating was good and we were not cold.

Wonderful return to Norfolk

We had another absolutely fabulous time in Church Cottage and it was great that we could be joined by friends. The location is superb for birdwatching and our telescope was trained on the Barn Owl box for most of our stay. The facilities in the cottage are excellent and we can’t wait to go back.

Cottage by the sea with cobwebs

Not up to expected cleanliness with several cobwebs about. Loose rugs on carpets are a trip hazard. No mats in showers so very slippery. Heating difficult to operate. Only 7 dishwasher tablets provided and an inch of fairy liquid.

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I'm very sorry to hear the cottage was not as you expected, we hope that the issues you had did not spill your holiday. We do ask you to contact us during your break so that we are given the opportunity to rectify any issues that have arisen. We could have been able to send our maintenance man over to show you how to work the heating, make sure the carpets are safe, and deliver a matt. We could have also offered for the housekeeping team to return. However, we understand if you do not wish to be disturbed when on holiday. We will be addressing everything that you mentioned. I hope this can reassure you, and we can welcome you back to Norfolk soon. Kind Regards, Norfolk hideaways.

1 week stay in February 2022

Pluses - location, spaciousness, beds and bedding fresh and comfortable, kitchen well equipped. Minuses - heating controlled remotely, some radiators not working, both showers leaking resulting in drips through living area ceilings, living room settee and easy chair extremely shabby and uncomfortable. Heating and television instructions absent or inadequate.

Beautiful views

Beautiful views - location is fab right on coastal path. The village is lovely 3 pub/restaurants & deli plus the drovers where you can get everything you need including the papers! The cottage is tired inside not the usual high standards of norfolk hideaways but price reflects this. Uncomfortable sofa & suggest the seating needs replacing. Lots of mats/rugs which dont coordinate gives a bohemian effect - but possibly not so good for looks. The single rooms are small, so ok if you want to use one as a dressing room but lovely main room! Kitchen good facilities although small. Parking is not really for 2 cars unless they are small as the only way into property is round the back - so have to lug everything either down slippery steps or on road. So with some tlc the cottage would be a perfect hideaway - re instate either the side door in study or front door to make life easier!

Perfect Norfolk Break

Our stay at Church Cottage was perfect. We were extremely lucky with the weather and enjoyed a mini heatwave whilst we were there which meant we could really enjoy exploring the surroundings. The location of the cottage is perfect, with beautiful walks out across the marshes and a variety of pubs/restaurants all within walking distance. The cottage is spacious and very well equipped and has beautiful views from all the windows. There’s plenty of outdoor seating and the backyard is ideal for enjoying a morning coffee in the sun or a barbecue at sunset. The cottage is yards away from the Norfolk Coast Path which is great for walking holidays, and the main road along the coast is also very near and gives drivers access to the whole of North Norfolks beautiful beaches and coastline. I will definitely be looking to stay in the cottage again-I can find no fault with it.

Ideally Situated Cottage

An attractive cottage ideally situated within walking distance of two pubs serving good food and next to coastal bus route. Main bedroom was bigger than average, although single bedrooms, which we weren't using really only suitable for children as small. An unexpected bonus was having two seating areas which meant that when my husband was watching the European Cup I could read my book in the other room in peace and comfort. Although the garden was small there was plenty of comfortable outdoor garden furniture. We do intend to return to Church cottage.

Thornham

Stayed in Church Cottage in Thornham which is a lovely village and ideally situated to travel around the Norfolk coast. It has 3 pubs and a deli which we visited. The cottage is very old and was built in 1649 I think, it has some lovely features especially in the lounge with the huge fireplace. Need to ensure anyone over 6’2 might have to bend in certain parts especially coming down the stairs. Unfortunately when we visited the weather was very mixed but we made the most of it and it didn’t stop us from getting out walking. Had an enjoyable stay.

A lovely well equipped cottage in a perfect location.

The cottage was cosy and had all the home comforts. Very generous basics with regards coffee, milk, cleaning products and condiments were left for our use.

Church Cottage

A well equipped and comfortable cottage with lovely views over the Buffalo field towards Thornham Marshes.Thornham is a delightful village with plenty of eating places on hand. There are wonderful walks to be had without getting into the car and the whole of the Norfolk Coast is one long string of nature reserves. We have been coming to this area twice a year since I don`t know when. Most of the properties have been with Norfolk Hideaways in either Holme-next-the-Sea or as this year for the first time in Thornham and they have all been very good.

Comfortable cottage in Norfolk

Suitable for a couple and 2 children, this is great for a base for walking, the sea, and three good pub restaurants nearby. We were two couples, but facilities were fine. We removed the small rugs, as they are a great hazard, causing tripping falls, replacing them before we left! Norfolk Hideaways were helpful, when a neighbours house alarm was disturbing our peace and quiet, and we were soon enjoying the wonderful quiet that is North Norfolk.

A lovely cottage in a perfect location

The cottage was perfect and in an ideal location. It was spacious and comfortable. When we first arrived, the cottage had not been cleaned. We called Norfolk Hideaways and very quickly the oversight was resolved and we were even offered £50 to go for a drink while the place was cleaned. Norfolk Hideaways dealt with it very quickly and efficiently. We were impressed.

Mixed feelings

The location is fantastic. The kitchen area, main bedroom and bathrooms were fine. The bed was very comfortable. However, the furnishings in the lounge and dining area were old, tired and uncomfortable. The house smelt generally musty and a little damp. Having rented holiday accommodation in this area a dozen times in the past few years, we were genuinely disappointed and would not book again.

Church Cottage Thornham

A lovely cottage in a beautiful location with every thing you need for a home from home stay, however as we are in our 70`s we found the stairs difficult and the sloping ceilings in the bathrooms awkward as we are tall people .More comfortable seating in the lounge would help as the settee and chair were to low to sit on. We never did find the hairdryer?

Thank you for your email and for taking the time to complete the UpFront Review following your recent stay at Church Cottage. Your feedback is invaluable whether constructive or positive as without this we, merely being the booking agents, are often unaware of issues that may arise hence customer feedback being something we look at very closely. We have forwarded your email to the owner in order that the points you have high-lighted can be addressed, as necessary. For our part we will look at the property description and ensure that we have a clear description of the stairs and ceiling heights. Once again many thanks for taking the time to write to us and we look forward to welcoming you back to North Norfolk sometime in the future.

comfortable and lovely cottage, cleanliness (showers bad) mixed, provision unclear

Had a good week and enjoyed our stay, but not as expected. Bedrooms 2 nd 3 cramped, garden parsimonious and no washing line, no bath, showers dirty and one had faulty door. But these are minor niggles: just not as we have come to expect of the very high standard set by Norfolk Hideaways. Would not recommend this cottage without some improvements in the areas mentioned, but I gather this property is sold and may not be let again?

Lovely cottage - ideal for exploring the North Norfolk coast - marshes, beaches and cycle rides!

We had a brilliant week based at Church cottage. We hardly used the car as we walked to the mashes, beach, local deli and pubs. The cottage was very comfortable and has lovely views over the marshes - we saw lots of different types of birds.

Beatiful Cottage in tranquil village

Church cottage is a beautifully appointed and well maintained cottage more than just a holiday let, more like a real home. Quality furnishings and all the little things provided. It is a place that can attract people of varied interest: walking, cycling, bird watching, sketching and painting and also near enough for lovely beaches for families with children. This was a place that we felt we could live in permanently! Sadly this review isn't going to help as the cottage was sold while we were there and isn't to be let in the future.

A really nice place to stay.

We absolutely loved our stay at Church Cottage: the location is very good for bird watching, walking and exploring the coast, and the cottage was well equipped and comfortable. The owner (who lives next door) was friendly and helpful. Our stay would have been even better if the showers were not fixed (difficult to wash childrens' hair) and if there had been some basic provisions (milk, bread, butter) in the fridge when we got into the cottage at 4.30 (the entry time was delayed by the owner) so that we did not have to go straight out again to shop! Perfect moment.....watching the sunset over the fields and seeing the tawny owl flying over, silently searching for supper! 'Im going to count that owl as part of the cottage fixtures and fittings! We definitely plan to come back next year. :

Church cottage, Thonham, Norfolk

A competent website gave us a good idea of what we were getting. This combined with seeing it from the outside whilst staying somewhere we didn't like, decided us to rent it on our next visit. I hope the new owners continue to rent it out.

Perfect spot

Church Cottage is excellent in so many ways- cosy and comfortable, well presented and equipped- but its location right in the centre of Thornham (our favourite Norfolk village) with views across the marshes, walks from the door and lovely places to eat and drink is just perfect.

Wonderful stay

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Church Cottage. Everything we needed was supplied, and the house felt very welcoming and cosy. The views from the windows were beautiful and there was lots of local wildlife to see. The local pubs and eating places at Drove Orchard were all within walking distance and provided tasty food and good ale. Hope to return in the future.
