Fantastic property. Fully equipped, comfortable, spacious and private. Our days were spent relaxing by the pristine pool, taking in the vista and watching the wildlife. The track down to the house is such an adventure, especially at night! Perhaps avoided for low slung sports cars. Many thanks to the owners for the welcome basket. We arrived late, so the pasta, pesto and wine were a life saver! We loved the area, with much to explore. Mirco, the caretaker, was really helpful with recommendations. Loved the pizzeria in Chiozza and the regional food at Il Pozzio. Highly recommend this property as a relaxing retreat.

Our 7 night stay at Col di Maturaia Villa was wonderful. This charming, rustic villa situated in the mountains, offers breathtaking views, a clean and refreshing pool and a characterfulholiday home from home, filled with eclectic and antique, yet comfy furniture, well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. We were met on arrival by Elisabetta who was very friendly, showing us around and explaining everything clearly, also recommending local places of interest to visit and restaurants to eat at. She also put us in touch with Mirco, a helpful guy who lives locally and who is readily available for any help needed at the villa.The location is beautiful, peaceful and relaxing, with a choice of balcony and terrace outdoor seating areas to enjoy Al Fresco dining and from where to watch deer meandering in the garden at dawn, and dancing fireflies at night.Col di Maturaia Villa is delightful and we would highly recommend a stay here.

Stunning Views

The property is amazing, loads of space for 4 adults, comfortable and the views are fantastic. The pool was wonderful and Mirko (the property manager) was friendly and helpful. We didn’t have hot water in one of the showers at first, but he fixed the issue relatively quickly. The only downside is the track to the house. It is steep and very bumpy. We were aware of this but even so, the drive was not for the faint hearted!

Avis mitigé

La vue et le cadre sont magnifiques pour les amoureux de la nature. La maison d’époque est pleine de charme. La maison était propre à notre arrivée et nous avons très bien été accueillis par la correspondante sur place ( son prénom m’échappe je m’en excuse).Cependant, le chemin pour accéder à la maison est difficilement praticable en voiture (nous avons pourtant un SUV): en pierre et en terre il vaut mieux y aller tranquillement. L’électroménager est un peu obsolète, la plomberie laisse à désirer (sur 3 toilettes une seule chasse d’eau fonctionnait correctement) et le matelas du grand lit fait une cuvette au milieu. Alors certes la vue et l’environnement sont magnifiques mais le prix me semble élevé pour ce type de location.

Magnifique vacances en famille

Nous avons passé un séjour splendide! Endroit, vue, simplicité et confort sont au rendez-vous. La piscine avec vue est incroyable et la région regorge d’activités et de bons petits restaurants. A la première approche la route du col est très impressionnante mais vous vous habituerez vite (de jour comme de nuit) et votre voiture est plus solide que vous le pensez;) c’est un petit effort pour un séjour inoubliable!

Empfehlenswert

Die Villa und Pool waren exakt wie beschrieben. Auaber, geräumig, alles vorhanden was man braucht. Leider war die Zufahrt zur Villa ein Schotterweg, der sich lange gezogen hat und sehr schlecht war zum fahren. Aber ansonsten alles top! Pool war Klasse und die Aussicht überragend. Waren als Freunde.

Panorama mozzafiato

Soggiorno di 6 notti per 6 persone. Casa rurale lasciata quasi allo stato originale. Nei pregi pulizia della camere spaziose e biancheria da bagno e per i letti pulita e profumata. Splendidi scorci, bosco incantevole, piscina bella e comoda, tanto verde. Poteva essere un'esperienza a 5 stelle ed invece ahimè, debbo dire che siamo a 3 stelle a causa sia della strada sterrata e impervia che bisogna percorrere per circa 2km, per raggiungere la casa, fatta di curve e soprattutto di fango e roccie. Altra cosa da sistemare è l'impianto idraulico, 2 bagni non in perfette condizioni che necessitano di manutenzione. Anche la discesa verso la piscina è un po' dissestata, un tempo aveva un camminamento fatto di lastre in pietra oramai logore e traballanti. Un plauso da parte nostra invece va al sig. Mirco, che si è reso sempre disponibile nel continuo manutentare e correre ai ripari per i disagi che abbiamo dovuto affrontare. Persona gentile e disponibile sempre pronta a prestare aiuto.

rust en stilte en één met de natuur

de woning ligt heel afgelegen, op een berg, met een moeilijk toegankelijke weg. Dit schrikt wel af, maar eens je het gedaan hebt en de weg kent, valt het wel mee. Nadeel hiervan is dat je niet vlug even iets kan gaan halen. Het huis is gerieflijk en degelijk ingericht en het zwembad is ideaal. Het uitzicht is fenominaal!Tevens veel leuke plekjes om de koelte op te zoeken. De ideale omgeving om te relaxen en te ontspannen! Uitstappen nemen wel wat tijd in beslag, de dichtstbij gelegen grotere stad is Lucca, op 1 uur rijden van de vakantiewoning. Het was de eerste week uitzonderlijk warm, waardoor het heel erg warm werd in de slaapkamers. Een ventilator is dan wel een must! Gelukkig kregen we op verzoek een extra exemplaar, waardoor elke slaapkamer kon voorzien worden. Het is een ideale gezinswoning en iedereen van ons gezin had het heel erg naar zijn zin. Wij kijken met weemoed terug naar een heerlijke vakantie.

The weather was uncommonly hot so I am glad fans were provided on request (they are not usually needed). Best wishes, Lorraine at tuscan-retreats NB for future guests - yes, the area is very rural and Lucca is the closest city (1 hour), but there are other beautiful villages and towns to see locally and various activities too - we send a detailed information pack in advance to help with planning. Ideal for a different and peaceful holiday, but the big cities are reachable with effort if one desires.

Lovely pool, wonderful views

We return yearly to this area, and to Homeaway to provide accommodation that matches the description on the website. Col di Maturaia has a slightly daunting drive down to the villa, but this results in seclusion, wonderful views, and the entertainment of wild boar in the orchard at night. The aspect of the pool meant we got sun until late in the day - often dragging ourselves indoors at 8pm. Locally the small town of Pieve has a great range of local stores with a baker, butcher, greengrocer, and gelato/coffee bar to name our more frequented ones. (Do try the regional "hand" shaped bread). There are really good supermarkets in the town too. We drove to Florence (2 hours) but enjoyed buying leather bags/satchels in Lucca (50 mins), where we found local workshops. Castiglione provided our favourite meal of the holiday, in an unassuming restaurant inside the walls we were served wonderful homemade food.We were lucky with the weather, but good wi fi and comfy sofas would have meant we were covered either way.

Spacious house wonderful views

A lovely house with plenty of room and very well equipped for practically all our needs. We were a family of two adults and three kids (10,13 and 14) and had masses of room. The pool is a generous size and would have kept everyone happy, but we were unfortunate with the weather so it was handy to have Wifi and TV to keep the younger lot occupied while we could find our own space to read. The views are breathtaking and we loved watching the sun go down behind the mountains each evening. There is plenty of space to explore and we saw deer and the odd fox making a foray after fallen fruit from the trees in the garden. We can join others in recommending Il Pozzo (superb food but again book ahead!) but our favourite was up the hill in Chiozza, Bar/Pizzeria La Grotta. Fabulous no frills food in a very relaxed atmosphere. One evening we were there you could have joined a Canasta tournament in the square outside, another evening we were invited to take part in a ping-pong/volley ball(!) tournament there. To visit we would recommend the fortress in Verrucole, the Grotta del Vento, and the beautiful medieval bridge in Castiglione -a short walk from the town. (You can walk to this from Chiozza by joining one of the walkers' routes below that town, taking you through smallholdings and forest (magical) in less than the time it takes to drive it). Great walks around San Pellegrino too. We loved it!
