Le Captain's Retreat est situé en plein milieu de Mount Desert Island dans la pittoresque ville historique de Somesville, qui est idéalement situé pour tous les points forts du parc national ACADIA! Vous pouvez faire de la randonnée sur un sentier de parc, nager dans le lac Echo, faire du kayak sur Long Pond ou assister à un spectacle en direct au Théâtre Acadia Repertory en quelques minutes en voiture! Nous sommes à 15 minutes de Bar Harbor pour l'observation des baleines, le shopping et la vie nocturne et à 7 minutes de Southwest Harbor pour découvrir une pittoresque ville traditionnelle du Maine avec des magasins locaux, des livres de homard, des galeries d'art et des restaurants. La ferme biologique de Beech Hill est sur la route pour TOUS les meilleurs produits locaux, les viandes nourries à l'herbe, les œufs frais, le sirop d'érable et plus encore! La ferme a été achetée en février 2017 et elle a été rénovée / mise à jour pour refléter sa gloire vierge d'origine des années 1920 sur la magnifique propriété de 3 acres. TOUT NEUF Clôture en cèdre de 6 pieds installée en juin 2019 sur le devant de la propriété. Il y a 3 chambres à l'étage et 1 salle de bain complète. Au niveau principal se trouve l'immense cuisine des agriculteurs, la salle à manger, le salon et 1 salle de bain complète. Vous pouvez vous détendre ou jouer sur la grande pelouse, cueillir des bleuets locaux dans les bois ou observer la faune sur le ruisseau Denning sur la propriété. TOUT est TOUT NEUF dans la maison ..... des meubles de salon de la grange de poterie, des lits super confortables avec des draps fins / couettes, des serviettes en coton égyptien en peluche, des ustensiles de cuisine de qualité de chef, une magnifique table à manger de campagne française pouvant accueillir 8 ... .... tout le confort d'une maison .... ce n'est pas votre chalet de location typique avec des meubles défoncés et des serviettes usées. Venez découvrir une ferme par excellence de la Nouvelle-Angleterre pendant vos vacances bien méritées! Détendez-vous avec style après une journée dans le parc, savourez une bouillie de homard traditionnelle, faites des smores au foyer extérieur ou contemplez les étoiles depuis le hamac. Une cuisine d'agriculteurs ensoleillée avec de nouveaux appareils avec un îlot central pouvant accueillir 6 personnes est un endroit idéal pour se rassembler pendant la cuisson ou le café du matin. Venez savourer tout ce que Mount Desert Island a à offrir depuis les couchers de soleil sur Cadillac Mountain, la voile sur Somes Sound, les popovers à Jordan Pond House, les promenades en chariot tiré par des chevaux sur les chemins de calèche, les pique-niques à Sand Beach et bien plus encore !!! Chiens bien élevés accueillis au cas par cas. Le gardien est situé sur la propriété de la remise avec des entrées séparées de la ferme et ravi de vous aider de quelque manière que ce soit et de partager ses «endroits secrets sur MDI» ainsi que de vous donner une intimité totale pendant que vous vivez vos vacances de rêve sur l'île Mount Desert!

We stayed here for a family vacation to enjoy the fall colors and explore Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. The location was perfect—an easy drive to both, which made getting around simple and stress-free.The home has a peaceful backyard set away from the road, which made it a nice spot to relax. You might hear some traffic at night if the windows are open, but it didn’t affect our overall comfort.Communication with the owners was excellent—very prompt and helpful. One of our favorite parts of the stay was gathering around the Solo Stove in the evenings. It was the perfect way to unwind and reflect on the day.We had a wonderful stay and are already looking forward to returning!

Lovely stay

Comfortable home-base for my family. The outdoor area is a wonderful space with plenty of room for my kids to run around. Loved chilling in the hammock and enjoyed grilling outdoors. There’s no a/c but gets cooler some nights. We all had a wonderful stay.

Great Location

We had a great time staying at captains retreat. We appreciated being so close to both sides of the island. The house was clean and looked just like the photos. The owners were easy to work with both before and during our stay. It worked well for our family of 5. We only wish we could have stayed longer to explore even more of Acadia!

Loved Our Stay!

The Captain's Retreat was the perfect home away from home for our family trip to Maine. The house was exactly as pictured, very comfortable, relaxing, full of character and well equipped. Elizabeth and Robert are wonderful hosts, and we loved the personal touches they provided. Fresh flowers and herbs greeted us in the bright kitchen upon arrival. We immediately felt at home and could not have asked for a better experience. We loved the central location as we could easily get to wherever we wanted to go on the Island. We would not hesitate to stay at the retreat again!

Beautiful, well-appointed home

We loved this home. Everything we needed for a family of 5. We cooked many meals in the kitchen and enjoyed the yard. Only downside was the traffic noise since the house is so close to a busy streeet.

Wonderful Vacation Spot

This was an ideal property for our family of 5. We loved being outside of Bar Harbor, but inside Acadia. Elizabeth has left a book full of resources and recommendations. The house was spotless and wonderfully equipped with everything we needed. We also enjoyed the backyard area for grilling and making s’mores on the solo stove. It was a picturesque spot, and we highly recommend Captain’s Retreat!

I love this place! Location for me is perfect! So close to all my quiet side hidden spots, yet just a short drive to BH hustle and bustle! The new addition of the privacy fence is nice! Love hanging out in the hammock! The backyard is just a getaway in itself! Our dogs love exploring in it! Looking forward to returning and making more happy memories!

Beautiful Property and Great Location

This house was great and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Kids ages 11/9/5 enjoyed the house. They loved the little loft area in the bedroom for some quiet time and a little secret hideout. Kitchen was great for cooking our lobster and seafood dinners. We love to cook and the kitchen was well equipped. Outdoor space was relaxing and it’s own little retreat. We enjoyed the fresh blueberries on the property. Location was perfect for easy access to Acadia, Bar Harbor, and lake access for paddle boarding. One of our best vacations to Maine yet. Thank you for letting us stay at this beautiful home.

Convenient to all things MDI and Acadia NP

This older ‘farmhouse’ is well maintained, well appointed and very comfortable. Everything about the property is charming. The owners live in the attached “carriage house” and are absolutely respectful of guests’ privacy. You have full access to the beautifully landscaped yard with solo stove for evening fires, comfortable chairs and picnic table for alfresco dining or relaxing. I would give this property 5+ stars except for one problem issue. The property is located on the main road to Southwest Harbor and traffic whizzes by at 50+ mph resulting in considerable traffic noise. During the warm summer nights when you need to leave windows open, we found the level of traffic noise to be disturbing until midnight and again starting up early morning (5 am). On cooler nights, when you can leave the windows closed, and using the “white noise” machines provided in each bedroom, the traffic noise would not be an issue. Other than this one concern this place is 5+ stars all around.

Very nice house; Right next to a very busy street.

Everything the other reviews say about this house are true: It is very well decorated, the furniture is all new, it is clean and the owner is delightful. However, the one thing not mentioned (and why I gave it a three star review) is that it is right next to a very busy street, and so you constantly hear traffic noise from a steady stream of fast-moving cars, which are all about 10 feet from the entryway to the house. This is less of a big deal at night than I worried it would be - the noise from the box fans (there is no AC) pretty much drowns out the traffic noise. But, it is definitely an issue, and it makes sitting outside (there is a lovely lawn) much less pleasant than it otherwise would be. I also was frustrated because I was not warned of this. There is nothing in the description warning about traffic noise, and when I spoke to the owner on the phone before renting, and specifically asked if there was anything I should know about the house, she never mentioned the constant noise from the traffic. So, it is a nice house. But if you are looking for a quiet vacation (which, given that this is on the 'quiet side' of MDI, might be a goal), this might not be the house for you.

Girl’s Hiking Trip to Acadia

Great location. So easy to access Acadia. Cute farmhouse with beautiful yard. We loved the fire pit! Owners were great. Gave lots of good recommendations for hikes, restaurants, things to do, and secret spot for sunset. Perfect fit for our girl’s weekend.

Great time on Mt. Desert Island

We loved the location of this house, easy access to all activities on MDI. Comfortable, well equiped farmhouse with nice furniture. Didn't seem like a rental at all! Yard was huge, we enjoyed the grill, firpit, outdoor furniture and played games in the yard. Only negative was the road noise but everything else made up for it. Apparently this has been a busier summer than usual. Recommendations from the hosts were great. Elizabeth was helpful, answered questions and we enjoyed a visit with her the last night.

A Lovely Stay

Everything about the property was as described. It's a lovely old farmhouse, well-equipped with what you need, and the owners are prompt and thoughtful in their communications. The house is close to a busy road, which can make it a bit noisy, but the backyard is a wonderful refuge. We would gladly stay at this home again.
