Eclectic Maine Cabin / Très bien situé / Vues étendues sur l'eau et LOBSTAH!

Cabine est situé sur 95 hectares de bois et de la route faisant face à l'est sur la baie de Muscongus, offrant une grande intimité et des vues magnifiques. La grande salle a une cheminée et une table et des chaises de 10 'de long pour 10-12 personnes, parfait pour jouer à des jeux et assembler des énigmes. Baies vitrées offrant des vues fascinantes. La chambre principale avec lit King maximise la vue avec un mur complet de fenêtres; Salle de bain privée avec baignoire sur pattes. Deuxième grande chambre avec lits jumeaux ou roi, salle de bain partagée avec la troisième chambre avec futon double lit double. Grill extérieur, intimité, calme, accessibilité aux bois, la nature abonde!

Hosts were wonderful. Very communicative. Beautiful view. Very rustic with an amazing collection of books. Every corner has an eclectic collection. Did not use washer. We didn't want to bother hooking up the portable unit.The air conditioning unit in the master was nice.

Relaxing

Wonderful, comfortable Maine cabin in a quite, secluded area of Round Pound. Easy walk to town and Bass Rock Coastsl Rivers preserve on the water. Owners are delightful.

Peaceful Getaway

The pictures do not do this eclectic rustic cabin justice. This cabin is priceless with so many books. The walls and spaces are filled with antiques and I am sure each piece holds its own special story. Such a treat to have this little gem in Maine.

Perfect, secluded cabin!

Heather and Chris are very responsive, wonderful hosts! Thank you to the family for sharing this amazing property with others. The cabin feels like it rises from the forest. We had a great time and enjoyed all the great walking trails near to the cabin, especially Bass Rock. Reading the sign at Bass Rock, we discovered that the family had donated the property to the Coastal River Preserve system. That generous donation is an indication of the values that Heather and Chris share now by opening their home to others so we may experience the magic of the cabin and property. Thank you!

So relaxing and absolutely enjoyable!!

I visit Maine to see family and also escape from South Carolina heat and humidity in the Summer. This quintessential cabin has the most breathtaking views and being remote and surrounded by trees was amazing. I enjoyed the clawfoot tub every day and the fully stocked kitchen was great! My beagle rescue fur baby and I enjoyed Round Pond Lobster as well as the nearby walking trail, Bass Rock Preserve, to sit by the water. Heather and Chris are wonderful hosts and I am so happy that they share their cabin for travelers to enjoy. Also the best book collection I have ever seen! I definitely will book again for my next visit... A truly wonderful Maine experience!

This is a beautiful spot. Our kids loved exploring the property, picking blueberries, watching NJ for seals, lobster boats, and playing on the rocks by the water. We enjoyed a plunge every day at Bass Rock. The location and views can’t be beat. The house itself beautiful and rustic - and set up for the sturdy of heart. Note to families with small children - access to all bedrooms except the primary is from outside. Our kids are too small to feel comfortable sleeping in a room disconnected from the primary house (and the bathroom, which means flashlight for night visits). Because of this, we played musical beds each night. Laundry is also something to be mindful of if you have small kids and plan to wash while you’re away. The washing machine requires hook up in the kitchen for each use and line drying. We don’t mind that, but it’s a layer in planning and time that not everyone prepares for. Several of our loads got rained on because of our poor planning. :) One other note to folks who may plan to work remotely while traveling, the internet is very slow and made regular internet use almost impossible. Our time was better spent reading at Bass Rock anyway. This place is beautiful. You’ll love it. The hosts are very communicative and helpful. We will keep this house on our list for revisits- especially when our kids are a little older and can appreciate the beauty of this cabin. Thank you Heather and Chris!

Treasures abound

Treasures abound inside and outside at this fabulous camp! One could spend a lifetime looking in the nooks & crannies & between the pages of this fascinating cabin. Only a mile's walk outside of town, but it felt as if we were far from any other habitation. There was no artificial light visible from the huge window that made up the wall of the bedroom overlooking the Muscongus Bay, and the Milky Way & constellations popped! Our dog loved it also, so much to sniff! And only a 5-10min walk to dog-friendly Bass Rock Preserve, a lovely little sanctuary donated to TNC by the cabin's owners' parents. We loved this refuge outside of Round Pond, Maine. I hope to return... as does Sophie (the dog)!

Step Back Into The Seventies!

This rustic cabin, situated on a natural stone formation that provides the access to the entrance, is crammed with hundreds of old books and antique furnishings including the kitchen and bathrooms. There is a pleasant view of Muscongus Bay from the living room and master bedroom. However, due to the large fixed pane windows and lack of ventilation in these rooms, they become quite warm as the temperature rises. Better to be outside. Perhaps due to the isolated location and/or deferred maintenance the cabin is susceptible to mice and various insects.

This cabin was built in the 50s and has been maintained as such in its natural environment. It is not insulated or intended for year ‘round living. This said, it is a safe and a comfortable haven for enjoying Maine and nature. Attempts to control the natural environment is not our main goal and is futile. I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay.

Round Pond Stay

Overall our stay was good. I thought the cottage would be more handicap accessible based on photos. I did not know that the only access to the walk-in shower was from outside. I also booked based on one room having twin beds but we were never offered that option. Fortunately two of our guests were unable to come so it didn't matter. I would encourage the property to utilize pest control services as we were sharing the kitchen with big black ants and field mice by the end of our stay. While that is the norm for wooded surroundings, it is not something guests should be expected to deal with. the location was wonderful - quiet and off the beaten path yet close to where we wanted to be. Enjoyed visiting places from my childhood - McFarland's Cove, Pemaquid Point and Damariscotta.

First and foremost, we thank you for your 4 star rating as we strive to make sure our guests are happy & satisfied. This is why your comments were troubling. The listing states that the cabin sits atop a granite ledge & photo clearly shows the uneven setting. Most people have no problems although it is certainly not wheelchair accessible. The interior is without any steps other than thresholds. The twin room was made up as a king as directed. We always ask. Other comments were curious as It seems the reviewer had appropriately chosen the futon room which is most accessible to bath with walk-in shower and comfortably sleeps 1 adult. Both bedrooms and full shower bath are accessed from a covered breezeway attached to the main house. We had no complaints in these areas during your stay and we hope your memories are happy ones!

Very Rustic

Heather was great at communicating and checked in frequently to make sure we had everything that we needed. She made recommendations for places to go and things to do which was very helpful. The cabin is truly a Maine cabin! Some of the rooms were a bit musty smelling and the second bedroom was pretty far from the main bedroom which didnt work for my 4 and 9 year olds. But the king sized bed and huge picture window was great and we made it work. The shower was really small and the shower head didnt move, so the kids had to take baths in the tub (which they loved). The night sky was absolutely incredible!! It was my first time truly seeing the Milky Way. There was also a meteor shower going on while we were there so it was phenomenal. The peace and quiet there was also great! Round Pond is such a cute little town and the general store was fantastic. This place is a nice little getaway but isnt for people who want luxuries. Its a rustic Maine cabin and thats what we got 🙂

Secluded peaceful location

Gorgeous quiet spot with spectacular views from the master bedroom, both of the bay and a full Milky Way at night. Cottage is cozy with lots of interesting antiques and hundreds and hundreds of books. We virtually wanted for nothing as far as appliances and equipment except for maybe a clothes dryer. Master and living space were large and bright. Other spaces a tad dark and second bath a bit rustic. Overall a charming stay with real character. We recommend it.

Serene Escape

We loved our stay at the Holme’s cottage...small morning excursions to conservation land with our dog, afternoons of quiet reading behind the house,....interrupted only by a flycatcher’s eager back and forth to a nearby nest. The evenings were cozy indoors surrounded by books and antiques. Outside the fireflies were competing with the stars. We ate local seafood every night. Round Pond Village is as friendly as ever, and the peninsula has plenary of natural beauty and history to explore. Heather and Chris were most welcoming and helpful. We were sad to leave and hope to return.

Private and Peaceful

Heather and Chris are superb hosts and made us feel perfectly home in their secluded hilltop home. With great views of the bay, lots of interesting antiques and books, and plenty of room, our three boys -- and dog -- had a wonderful time. We look forward to returning.

A Place of Perfect Peace

To step on this ground of granite outcropping surrounded by towering pines and then inside this cabin that is filled with items of wonder and rooms of books is to enter a sanctuary, a place of peace. My husband and I and our English Springer Spaniel are grateful to Heather and Chris for sharing their incredible family cabin. I walked to town for coffee and bakery, hiked with Zach down to the rocky shore (he swam; I did not), explored the peninsula, ate fine meals, read good books, rested and got a chance to just BE. We loved our time at the Holme cabin and would recommend it to anyone. Heather and Chris are wonderful hosts and kind and generous with the gift of this place.

BassRock rocks!

We had such a wonderful time at BassRock cabin with the whole family - nice secluded place with a gorgeous view of Muscongus Bay and only a light roll down to both the BassRock Preserve and the lobster pond(s) in Round Pond, which is a quaint little town with antique and ice cream shops as well as some cafés, bakeries, fresh produce farms, and Granite Hall! - I won't recommend this place to avoid competition next time we want to come and stay there!

Extraordinary!!!

We fell in LOVE with Bass Rock cabin! A jumble of rooms with all kinds of nooks and crannies...a collection of antiques and curiosities placed in the most delightful corners...bookcases at every turn filled with a plethora of categories!!! The views of Muscongus Bay are outstanding...but so are the moonrise, the array of stars and the sunrise. Restful, tranquil and perfect place to recharge the batteries....but if you aren't reluctant to leave at the end of your stay, then you must not have an appreciation for all things Maine!!! We recommend visiting the village, the Pemaquid Lighthouse, Maine Coast Botanical Garden and a day trip to Monhegan Island...5 stars all around!!! But best of all was the hospitality from Heather & Chris!!! They have shared an absolutely unique and beautiful spot and we feel VERY lucky to have found them!!!

The Holme Cottage is our Home on Pemaquid Penisula

We have rented the Holme cottage on 4 occasions dating back to 2008, and most recently in August of 2015. We have been there with as many as 6 people and also when there was just the two of us. A great "quiet getaway" location. Read, cook, walk, talk and snooze....it's great for the basics. Lobster and clam dinners on the wharf are a beautiful walk away, and the antique and ice cream locations, and fresh-daily bakery are also just a walk away. Eclectic is the right word, the choice of reading is stunning, and the early-mid 20th century decor is ideal Maine restful. Beach and ocean cruises are 12 minutes away by car.

Property has been in the family for 2 generations and enjoyed as a summer / fall getaway by 4 generations of the family. It was built in 1950 by the owner's parents whose family has been in the publishing business for 3 generations! During the summer the owners reside just 10 miles away in Newcastle and very accessible in most cases. They are residents of Annapolis, Maryland when not in Maine.

This property borders a Nature Preserve, is extremely quiet and peaceful, you don't see another man made thing except the Lobster Boats out in the Bay gathering those succulent treats from the sea available at 2 Lobster pounds in the Harbor just a mile down the road. Easy access for walking, hiking, cycling, kayaking, sightseeing, antiquing. Golf and tennis. Several good restaurants near by.
