My fiance and I stayed in this lovely little place less than 10 minutes outside of Montepulciano just a few weeks ago in January. It was utterly charming, no less for its facilities and beautiful surroundings than for the welcoming and warmth of the family who own and let it, and have done some fabulous work restoring it. Laura, the owner, was brilliant, very accommodating, answered loads of questions we had and made us feel very at home. The flat we stayed in was part of a lovely old stone barn or stable, with french doors that opened up on a garden with a view of vineyards and hills-- a bit too cold to mess about with in January, but must be absolutely beautiful thrown open on a summer evening-- and we really liked the layout of the rooms-- plenty of space, living-room/kitchen (nicely kitted out, spotless and new) and bathroom (power shower!!! just what you want after a long trudge through the snowy hills) and then a pretty bedroom in a loft setting, a little like a gallery. A big plus for us given the season was that the heating worked so well: we have shivered in a number of lovely-but-oh-so-cold Tuscan stone houses, so it was really nice to stay warm and toasty for once while it snowed outside.
We've also in the past tended to stay in places that were farther out from town than here, and while we've enjoyed the isolation, there is a lot to be said for being within a healthy walking distance of Montepulciano one way and the hills and trees and vineyards the other way, just there. We're coming back when the weather heats up!
