Serenity Cottage was perfect for our needs. We wanted a place in a convenient location that had a kitchen and a hot tub and wouldn't break the bank.
Make no mistake - it's small. But we didn't feel cramped. The kitchen is tiny but well-arranged and stocked with basic dishes, utensils, pots, etc. We cooked all our meals while there with no problem. Everything was very clean.
The living room served our needs as well. It houses a small heating unit that heats the whole house when weather is chilly, as it was when we were there in early January. The heater is a bit noisy, and it is recommended to keep the bedroom door open at night to stay warm. We were worried that the noise would bother us during the night, but it didn't.
We both agreed that the bed and pillows were the most comfortable we've had in a VRBO. And the blinds made it dark enough that we slept well.
The hot tub was great for two people. No complaints there. It's private enough, although we'd recommend swimsuits, just in case...
The only hiccup was our initial arrival, which was in a rainstorm at night, after 6-7 hours of driving, the final 3 of which had been in pouring rain and driving wind. Needless to say, we were tired, and our eyes were tired. There was supposed to be a gravel driveway 20 feet beyond a road - but we couldn't see gravel in the dark and the rain, and there were cars parked in the most promising driveway (we're also not good at estimating 20 feet!) Finally we parked, got out and walked with umbrellas, getting soaked in the process, and determined that the one with the cars WAS the correct driveway. There are several houses off that drive, and the cars belonged to another. We appreciated that the owners had sent a picture of the property from the road - but you can't see it in darkness and rain. So our tip is: pull into the driveway immediately beyond the road.
One nice thing about the location is the proximity to many hiking trails. We were there on business, but we hoped to fit in some hikes. The Bent Creek Experimental Forest, Lake Powhatan, and the NC Arboretum are all just a few minutes away. We had a lovely hike from the Rice Pinnacle parking area of the Forest.
All in all, we highly recommend Serenity Cottage.
