I found a BAT in the bedroom I was sleeping in and the host told me “it’s JUST a bat, there’s nothing we can do.” I now need a series of rabies shots (at the recommendation of my doctor) and the host refuses to offer reimbursement or even sympathy. I understand this is an old house in the mountains, but why are there no screens on most of the windows to keep these things out. There are also SO many spiders and possible rat/mouse nests in the vents?? I’ve visited Tahoe many times throughout my life and have never experienced anything like this before. For as expensive as this place is, I expected better.

Location is outstanding! Cabin is 100 years old and has some quirks. There is a good amount of beach not really shown in the photos. We found beach glass daily. Largest room has a king bed not shown or listed. We would definitely come back.

Truly a unique and wonderful experience-- great for a family with kids and a dog!Pro's-- great views, comfortable beds, very special Old Tahoe experience. Property manager was very helpful and quick to respond. Upstairs bedroom was comfortable in spite of steep and shallow stairs (not senior-friendly). House is cuter in real life than it looks in photos.Cons-- traffic noise especially noticeable in upper bedroom; also, many windows did not open, which would be a problem for ventilation in hot weather, and some openable windows had no screens; kitchen lacked some dishes, and kitchen screen door had no latch, so a dog could bolt out. Dining table was backless picnic style and not very comfortable.. Also the path to the beach had broken and uneven steps which are very hard for a senior person to navigate, with no handrail. And it is a bit scary to access property from the main road, which has to be done by making a u-turn into often-heavy traffic.Note that beds are not as pictured--master bedroom has one bed, a king; second bedroom has bunk beds.But if you can live with the cons, this is indeed a truly unique Tahoe experience. It was very memorable for us-- a very beautiful and dreamy location.

Beautiful but not maintained

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: There is no question that this is a beautiful home situated in a breathtaking setting. The views, location, and overall ambiance are exceptional.Unfortunately, my stay ended with a serious accident that raises concerns about property maintenance and guest safety. While using the stairs to go down to the lake, I slipped and fell due to what appeared to be deteriorated and poorly maintained stair conditions. The injuries are severe: a broken ankle in two separate locations along with torn ligaments and tendons. Instead of enjoying the remainder of my vacation, I drove myself to the ER, returned with a splint and prepared to return home for medical treatment. Subsequently I am now facing 8-weeks in a cast as well as a lengthy physical therapy recovery period.A beautiful property should also be a safe property, and I hope the owner takes the necessary steps to inspect, repair, and maintain these stairs before another guest is injured. My intention in sharing this review is not to discourage visitors, but to encourage corrective action and raise awareness of a condition that I believe presents a legitimate safety concern.There are numerous other issues that suggest deferred upkeep. The lock on the deck door does not function properly. The deck itself appeared not to have been maintained for years, and portions of the railing felt loose and unstable. The overall property is simply unkept with clutter throughout the yard, dying plants, as well as a non-functioning deck umbrella. The entrance gate is also severely damaged. Although the beauty of this location and the charm of the small lake house is undeniable, the owner's failure to maintain the property was a distraction from my overall experience.

The Red Cabin is unique! It is not the fanciest nor most luxurious place we’ve ever stayed, but it combines its rustic authenticity with a comfortable and well appointed environment. The bed is great, the kitchen has what you need, and the deck! Simply wonderful! The lakeside location and the views are spectacular! Shoutout to Dylan, who was so responsive and helpful. We love it here!

Great Tahoe Gem!

Perfect little cottage on the lake! Easy drive into town and across the street from a couple great hikes for amazing views of the lake. Looking forward to staying here again.

A perfect getaway

We had a great time at the Little Red Cabin. It is a perfect location - far enough from the tourist hotspots to be quiet, but easy and quick to great locations. The property is charming, giving a real rustic cabin feel that takes you away from your normal life. The listing underplays how fun the little beach at the bottom of the stairs is - so nice to sit in the sand and take a dip in the cleanest waters you’ve ever seen. The furniture could use an upgrade, but didn’t take away from how charming the house was. Would recommend whole heartedly.
