Riverside family cottage for 14 in Grand Bend Seven bedrooms. Every one of them big enough to spread out in. This is the cottage for when the family group chat says “everyone’s coming” — and means it. Wood Park Cottage sits on a private, treed lot in Southcott Pines, backing right onto the Old Ausable River Channel — birdsong instead of an alarm clock, water right there past the yard. Evenings belong to the fire pit, every one of them, s’mores turning into ghost stories that go on way too long. And if the sky doesn’t cooperate? The adults take over the great room for the kind of conversation that stretches past midnight, while the younger crowd disappears downstairs to the ping pong table.
INSIDE The kitchen has the counter space for the whole crew to cook together, plus a second full-size fridge and a bar fridge — nobody’s playing fridge Tetris with a week of groceries. The great room’s gas fireplace and games make it the natural gathering spot after dinner. Downstairs: the kids’ own TV, the ping pong table, and Lego for the ones who’d rather build than compete. A few desks are tucked around the cottage if anyone needs to sneak off for a Zoom call. And when you need to slip away for yourself, there’s a screened-in sunroom — glass of wine, good book, the river doing its thing outside the screen. One dog is welcome to join the family, too.
OUTSIDE The flagstone patio is where the trip actually happens: the fire pit for s’mores and stories, cornhole for the ones still competitive after dinner, and a private, treed lot quiet enough that the loudest thing around is the birds.

EXPERIENCE GRAND BEND Grand Bend has an easy, sun-soaked energy — the kind of place where flip-flops are appropriate footwear for dinner and nobody's in a hurry to be anywhere. Main Street is the heart of it, lined with patios that fill up fast on a warm evening and a Saturday farmers' market worth building your morning around. For families, the beach is the main event — soft sand, warm shallows, and some of the best sunsets on the Great Lakes, right from the shoreline. There's always something happening close by, too: high-speed thrills at the Grand Bend Motorplex, live theatre at the Huron County Playhouse, mini-golf on Main Street, or a classic night under the stars at the Starlite Drive-in.
Wander a little further and you'll find your new favourite coffee spot, plus a cluster of wineries and breweries worth setting aside an afternoon for — Dark Horse Estate Winery and Cowbell Brewing among our local favourites. If you're visiting in shoulder season, it's the perfect time for a quiet wellness getaway — we're happy to recommend our favourite local boutiques, cozy eateries, and peaceful nature trails.
Beyond the beach, Grand Bend backs onto quiet river channels and Pinery Provincial Park, with ten trails and miles of biking through rare oak savanna — bring your hiking shoes and plan a trip for fall colour, or come enjoy the hush of a Grand Bend winter, when the crowds are gone and the lake is all yours.
ABOUT YOUR HOST I'm Jennifer, I started CottageStays to share my own home with like-minded travelers who appreciate escaping to life at a slower pace. I've never forgotten how lucky I am to call Lake Huron home. Now more than ever, everyone is in need of the kind of peace and quiet that escaping to the lake can bring. It's my absolute privilege to be the one to provide families and friends a special place to gather and create memories while exploring an area so near and dear to me.
