Sailors Rest: Pool & Sauna, Tropical Island Oasis, Fireplace

Enter the gates of Sailors Rest, immerse yourself in the lush palm-filled scenery, discover hidden gardens and unwind by the pool.

The Space:

Two queen-sized beds, fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, streaming entertainment, coffee machine, high-speed business internet, and if needed, a work station.

Amenities:

Take a dip in our *heated pool, relax in the infrared sauna, enjoy a cold drink on the patios or grill out, cozy up with s’mores by the outdoor fireplace, all while surrounded by lush gardens and the beauty of nature.

Farm-fresh eggs daily from our chickens are generally available (unless the hens are molting, which they do on occasion).

A note about well water & heated pool expectations:

Our water comes from a well and is treated with an advanced Evolve water purification system. It's clean, safe for drinking, showering, and daily use, and free from typical well water odors as much as possible. We regularly test it to ensure its quality.

However, if you're very sensitive to well water or find its hardness bothersome, this may not be the right place for you. For pure drinking and cooking water, there is a separate faucet with reverse osmosis filtration.

*Pool Policy: The pool heater functions efficiently only when nighttime temperatures remain above 50°F. Heating is generally available from mid-April through September; however, pool heat cannot be guaranteed during periods of unusually cold weather.*

Guest Access & Hosts on Premises:

You would be the only guests on the property. As a separate dwelling space on the first floor, the apartment has its own private entrance and key. The property is self-check-in, hosts are available and live on-premises, and are happy to help you with anything you need during your stay.

Amenities for Families:

Children enjoy the property, complete with an outdoor baby/toddler swing, plenty of toys, a baby countertop bathtub, kid's books, and a Pack n-Play. Little ones will have a blast feeding the chickens and koi fish and swimming in the pool.

-Kiawah Island and its pristine beaches are just a 10-minute drive from Sailors Rest.

-Folly Beach is a 20-30 minute drive.

-Downtown Charleston is a 20-30 minute drive.

-Freshfields Village has a Harris Teeter grocery store and plenty of local boutiques and restaurants for every taste and is 10 minutes away.

-Rosebank Farms and Storey Farms nearby provide a taste of local charm with fresh local produce, seafood, and unique gifts. Gather your local supplies here and utilize our full-sized kitchen to cook at home.

Our stay at Sailors Rest was amazing! The hosts were very friendly and responsive, but still gave us a lot of privacy and space on the property. We probably saw them briefly twice. Their daughter helps with messages and she was very quick to respond to my questions on the website, esp regarding the hurricane watch we found ourselves in. (We were safe and fine! Property is well above sea level.) The property itself was beautiful, well stocked with toiletries, pool supplies, and fresh eggs upon request. Landscaping and overall property design was impressive! We loved our private pool time and the sauna. Thank you to the hosts!

We were incredibly excited to stay at Sailors rest on our recent trip to Charleston, however, excitement turned to severe disappointment when we arrived to realise that the hosts of the property live in the upper floor of the same building, with the pool and outside area being communal for all, we felt the advert was misleading, stating the hosts would be on the property, not in the same building. In addition, the filtered well water as stated, in fact meant the bathroom taps, washing machine and kitchen sink minus the filtered tap smelt of stagnant water/ hydrogen sulfide. Finally, the cleanliness of the property was poor, with sand and previous guests hair present in the tumble dryer drum, and a dirty refrigerator filled with half used condiments were the final straw for my partner and I to not feel safe to stay in this property. We subsequently had to book last minute accommodation elsewhere for our trip and the hosts & VRBO have refused to provide even a partial refund for this trip. Therefore, we paid over 700 for a two night stay in accommodation that was not as described, and was unhygienic.

What an amazing place! This VRBO is one of a kind. The beautiful grounds immerse you in nature. I was truly in awe of what a beautiful and peaceful place this is. The wonderful hosts are gracious and have thought of everything you might need (or might have forgotten to pack). The kitchen is well equipped for making meals. The location is perfect for both accessing Charleston as well as the beaches. And, it is family friendly. Both check in and check out were easy. I really could not ask for more and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

It is a great experience and full of surprises. There are so much Sailors rest offer, the fish ponds, hammock, sauna, beautiful garden, and chicken farm, there are so many chicks, and it is amazing experience. And Ginny and Neil are incredible people that you meet. They even offered eggs from the chickens. they are delicious. We would love to come back.

This place was absolutely unique and fun! My family of four stayed for two nights and enjoyed the pool, walking in the gardens, the koi fish ponds, the treehouse, the Biergarten, the fresh daily eggs, the fire and smores. The host couple who live upstairs in the home were very friendly and accommodating. You can tell they love their home and have poured their heart and soul into each and every details. You can tell they truly care about people. To me, the best part was the sweet prayer that was prayed over my family for traveling safety before we headed out. God is good.

Beautiful, unique, and comfortable !

My husband and two sons and I loved staying at Sailor’s Rest . The place was immaculate inside, and the grounds around the home are beautiful. The pool was perfect , and my sons also enjoyed the tree house and s’mores at the fire pit. The hosts are delightful and very helpful .

Sailors Rest was just the perfect vacation spot. Ginny and Neal are so sweet to share their amazing property with we every person who goes there. We so enjoyed the fresh eggs, pool, all the beautiful outside sitting areas that were all creativly lit at night and all the beautiful paintings and mosaics throughout the property. So many times, the pictures posted are not what the property looks like any more. Well, that is not the case here. If anything, this was better in real life. The reason for the 3 star ratings isn't because of the property. The property was clean, the pool was fantastic (super warm and the kids loved it) & the living space was comfortable. They had things that worked perfect for the beach (towels, toys, chairs, beach pass, etc.). The bedrooms were a great size & had comfortable beds. The property had a lot to offer for kids so ours were never bored. Like I said above the pool was perfect. They had pool toys & it was so warm the kids never wanted to get out. It was like a bath tub. The reason for the 3 stars is because the ad advertised owners on the property but "As the only guest on the property, you'll have all the privacy and tranquility you need to unwind and recharge. Hosts are available on-premises and happy to help you with anything you need during your stay." We felt this wasn't an accurate description of what "all the privacy and tranquility" actually was. Every day we were there except for 1 out of the 5 the owners grandson was there. Not that we have any issues with kids (we have 3 littles of our own) but he was in the pool swimming when we were wanting to be in the pool. Again, no issues with kids we just expected based on the advertised overview of the property we would have the place to ourselves & not need to share which was not the case at all. So if you are looking for a property & pool to yourself this might not be quite what you are looking for. If you don't mind potentially share the space then go for it.

Enchanted Garden

What a charming, peaceful place to stay! I don’t know where to start. The minute the gate opens, you feel like you’ve entered an enchanted garden. From the large open yard to the winding paths with hidden gardens, there’s so much to see. The teens had a ball exploring and hanging out on the tree house deck. We enjoyed the outdoor fireplace, the pool, the sauna and the pavilion. Then there is the adorable round house! Oh and the farm fresh eggs! The owners are precious and have excellent communication.We loved every minute of it and plan to go back again.

BEAUITFUL OASIS

This home is a rare find. The accommodations are lovely and has everything you need along with small touches throughout the home to make you stay more comfortable. The artistic flare throughout the home fit perfectly for my family who are all artists. What they have outside is beyond words. Such beauty and serenity plus plenty of spaces to explore nature. My grandkids loved it. The koi fish ponds, the pool area, the secret garden and tree house & swings were favorites. The sauna and bar areas pleased all adults and the outside oven for bonfires and smore's. The gracious Hosts were available and helpful.Definitely want to go back and stay in the summer.

Wonderful Escape

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this wonderfully unique house and property. It felt like you were in your own relaxing world. It was a great location. Close to John’s Island main drag and about 20 minutes to Charleston. The owners are wonderful people who put their heat and soul into this place. I highly recommend this property.

Overall awesome experience. Very nice accommodations. Pool and grounds were beautiful and very well kept. Hosts were fantastic. Location central to beaches and Charleston, and far enough out to be quiet and private in the evening. We couldn't get the grill to light one evening, and the very next morning he had a brand new one! Ten out of ten, highly recommend.

Serene place w/beautiful gardens

The grounds are so beautiful with their luscious gardens, pool and other areas to relax and enjoy. Wish we had spent more time at Sailor's rest and not been off the property as much. There were also wonderfully delicious restaurants nearby.
