Awesome bungalow in a great location! Easy to walk to Avalon pier/beach. Pictures of property are accurate, loved the screened porch, outdoor shower and wood stove. Nice neighborhood, we will be back.

Excellent place to stay for a quick getaway

The Avalon Beach Bungalow was an absolutely wonderful place to stay for our vacation. The place had a very relaxing vibe and all of the help and communication from the property managers made it even better. From the close beach access to the porch hammocks, everything about the bungalow is enjoyable. I definitely look forward to booking again in the future.

Great bungalow close to the beach and amenities

Perfect place for our quick stop on our Roadtrip north. Everything was clean and comfortable and easy walking distance to the beach and pier. Conveniently located to both bridges. Close to the main road, but still private and very quiet. Just what we were looking for!

Cute place. Easy walk to beach. Neighborhood can be a bit boisterous due to number of rentals and location so close to Avalon Pier and Awful Arthur's restaurant. Place is a bit more worn since the photo shoot, but owners have put some effort into the style. A bit light on glasses, dishes and utensils and what's there is a bit dingy. We loved the screened-in porch. It was great to be able to have the dog along and it was easy to keep the floors c

Adorable and perfect

We had never been to OBX so we didn't know where to stay...until I saw there place! Everything we exactly as listed, Maria and Michael we extremely helpful and answered all of our questions. I would highly recommend staying here...the easy walk to the beach & pier, the beach supplies and the bikes made the trip even more relaxing!

Adorable beach cottage for a small family vacation. The hosts were very communicative and helpful. We had a lovely, relaxing week and would definitely recommend the Avalon Beach Bungalow -- for the hammocks on the porch alone!

Cozy and relaxing!

My husband and I brought our 15 month old daughter and two dogs to the bungalow for our 10 year anniversary in January. It was absolutely perfect. We loved the proximity to the beach and walked over every morning. The woodstove was so cozy in the chilly winter evenings. We also enjoyed the Duck boardwalk and had a lovely anniversary dinner at a restaurant Maria recommended. We were impressed with the little touches and the sweet attention to detail. We definitely want to return! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay!!

Quaint old-school bungalow....

We stayed at this sweet bungalow last week and loved it! What you see online is true to what you get. It’s small, but it was absolutely perfect for the two of us and our old man poodle. Steps to the beach. Bicycles every evening to the sound for sunsets was fun. Do NOT miss those sunsets!! They are stunning! (Cross at the light at k-mart so you don’t get run over out on the 4-lane!!) Avalon pier for an afternoon beer was fun. Posting up under the pier with camera in-hand, filming those waves come crashing thru the pilings, yielded amazing shots. Between the perfectly crashing waves and the glorious sunsets, it’ll be hard to choose which to have blown up and framed. All perfect. But it’s the way with which we were kid-glove treated that I’ll always remember. We were scheduled to go down Sept. 6th to celebrate our 40th anniversary.... just as Dorian was making landfall in the Outer Banks. Maria was in constant communication with updates, penciling us in for the first week of October as an alternate, but leaving open the week in September, as well. We ultimately chose to wait. But that she would do that — carry us on the books for two separate weeks — was what we appreciated most of all. She gave us choice, with no strings attached. I told her then, and I meant it, that even if we never got there, our dealings with her would not be forgotten. So, what you see is what you get. If you’re attracted to old-school and quirky, you’ve found the right place. Now that it’s cool, you’ll absolutely love the screened porch and hammocks. You’ll love that outdoor shower. Most of all, you’ll rest assured you’re dealing with someone who takes great pride in her brand and wants you to have nothing less than a wonderful time! We wouldn’t hesitate to rent again.... and probably will.

Fantastic Home Away from Home

Maria and Mike are perfect hosts--from the handmade soaps with our towels to the suggestions for surf lessons, kayaking, and more we had a great time away. The house is perfectly appointed, with everything we needed to fix meals when we wanted (blender, tumblers in the freezer for cold drinks, nice pots and pans for cooking, a coffee maker). The outdoor shower was a great way to end the day at the beach--and avoid tracking sand everywhere; and for quick runs into the house to grab something, the sprayer for rinsing off feet was great. I love the beach. I hate sandy floors. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the bedding very soft. For such a small space, the house easily fit the 4 of us (two teens, two parents). Walking to the beach was easy for sunrise or any time of day. My older daughter tried out the surfboard and had a blast.

Perfect Relaxing Getaway

Maria and Mike were super accommodating during our stay! Not only did they make last minute arrangements for us, but they were so friendly and kind. The bungalow is perfect and well equipped with everything you would possibly need for a beach getaway. It was super clean, and within walking distance from great beach access, shops and dining. Will definitely be back!

Perfect little bungalow steps from the beach!!

Maria and Mike were VERY accommodating and helpful! They went out of their way to make sure that we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The bungalow is super cute and has everything you would need for the ultimate beach getaway! Steps away from the beach, pier, restaurants and activities, this place has it all! Can’t wait to book another vacation through Maria and Mike at one of their Live Swell locations!!

AMAZING BUNGALOW

Perfect cute little bungalow located literally steps away from the beach!!! We had 5 guests on our trip, and it was a comfortable stay for everyone. Upgrades in all the right places in the house, along with Mikey and Maria being superb hosts. We cooked amazing seafood home cooked meals all week. Waking up to the light breeze and sound of ocean, while laying in the hammock on the patio was as good as it gets. I would highly recommend this location and property to anyone wanting the best of it all. Several amenities inside bungalow for all activites including bikes, football, frisbee, and recommendations of the town. Bungalow was spottless but also had that home away from home feel. Loved this place and would DEFINITELY go back!!!

Avalon Beach Retreat

This place is a nice reminder of what life is supposed to be like. Great beach access followed by the amenities of the outdoor shower to bikes and surfboards. I came out here to get away from the hassles of life and be with friends. It was nice to catch up while listening to our beach playlist with the cool ocean breeze blowing as we laughed and relaxed on the outdoor patio. We will definitely be back!!

Awesome family trip to OBX!

This cozy and clean beach house was perfect for our small family! 1 minute walk to the beach and even caught a couple trout off the beach. We loved relaxing in the hammocks with the kids and roasted a few marsh mellows out back in the fire pit! Great week!

Searching for Shells and Stars

Great place with an even better location! Steps from the beach with epic surf and an awesome pier with games and a spot for watching the sun rise. The house was perfect for my stay! Everything you would need and more, they even have hammocks in the front porch! There is so much to do and see near this spot and its basically in the center of OBX so traveling either north or south takes the same amount of time! All in all, I would come back to this spot anytime!

Perfect Fall Getaway Stay for a Family of 4

The Avalon Beach Bungalow is a gem of a vacation rental and suited our family of four just perfectly. The guide that was sent prior to our arrival was a great overview of the property and its recommendations came in handy during our stay. The kitchen was very well appointed and made eating-in very easy. Our little girls loved the bunk beds and we greatly appreciated the Jenga game and deck of Uno cards on the chilly evenings. We can't wait to come back and stay when the weather is warmer and we can fully enjoy the bungalow's proximity to the beach!

Great spot for the holiday!

We came for the 4th of July holiday and were not disappointed! The entrance to the beach and pier are right at the end of the road, the beach cart made lugging the cooler, umbrella and snacks down to the beach a breeze! We are an active and curious couple that loves to travel, live life by the beach, meet interesting people, learn and ohh yea, surf whenever possible. We believe there is something magical about spending time in coastal regions and we hope you do to!

With a passion for coastal living and some experience in renovations Maria and I decided a few years ago to restore and renovate a bungalow to its original charm. We knew we would spend time there with our family and friends, because we love the area and chic bungalows, but did not realize how much our guests would like it or the impact it could have for them.

We have had so much fun and become very passionate about creating memorable guest stays, unique experiences and making more of an impact. Since our first bungalow we have grown to cover both coasts and add more places to stay. The “original” Live Swell Beach Bungalow, The Chill Beach and Surf Bungalow, is still available for rent in the OBX today.

Our favorite time of year in the OBX is the fall + late spring when the weather is beautiful, the fishing is great, crowds are down and the surfs up.

As hosts: We am super easy going, we respect our guest privacy but may stop in to say hello

As guests: Super laid back and low maintenance

Favorite Destinations: California, Baja Mexico, Guancaste Costa Rica, Spain, Peru, Long Island NY, Outer Banks NC, San Diego.

Things I could not live without:
1. Good friends and family relationships
2. A beach house, grill, fireplace and surfboards

We purchased this property because it is located in one of the the best surf destinations, raddest and most interesting surf towns on the east coast of the US, Kill Devil Hills. Like most people, having a beach house is a dream come true. If you enjoy history, you may like the history of KDH!

We have always felt the best places to live, visit or "staycation"are those locations that offer a mix of consistent waves, chic accommodation, welcoming + insightful locals, exciting beach culture, great eating options and heaps of fun activity.
