So many great features of this property and the host was above and beyond, amazing! The property is the most unique vrbo I've ever stayed in. The outdoor space is a dream, the landscaping top-notch, and from the words of my mother-in-law "something out of Swiss Family Robinson" . Tons of space indoors and outdoors - which can be rare for San Diego. We were visiting family in the area, so the location was perfect, and we all had our own room which was a treat Our 7 year old LOVED the walking paths, looking thru the glass "bridge" to the main bedroom, and making all sorts of discoveries in the "jungle" . Zapher was so helpful, prompt, and kind. Lots of core memories made, we will be back, truly remarkable!

Memorable and Special!This place was located in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in SD. The home is comfortable and super charming and has all the amenities. The property is very private and super special. Great for exploring and also hosting a quiet gathering of old friends. The owner is warm and inviting and available if one needs anything during their stay. We are definitely coming back soon, if nothing else, just to stay here again. Highly Recommend!

We really enjoyed our time at this property. It was a little quirky but in a good way. It’s tucked into a hillside and the outside is lush and landscaped very well. We have two college age sons. With three bedrooms and two bathrooms, we all had plenty of room to spread out. The rooms were comfortable, clean and well appointed. The hot tub was perfect after a long day of site seeing.The owner is wonderful. He was easy to work with and provided recommendations for activities and local restaurants. There were a lot of restaurants within an easy walk from the house.

A wonderful stay

Zapher's Zen retreat was everything promised and then some. Beautiful location with lovely grounds and amenities, convenient to Hillcrest and Balboa Park, plus a wonderful dog to pet. We are a family of four and the house offered plenty of room. Zapher is a kind, generous and considerate host who gave our family a tour of the grounds and had lots of useful recommendations for the area. San Diego is a favorite visiting spot. Staying in this magnificent home made our trip that much more special. We very much plan to return.

Sensitive neighborhood!!!

First of all the host was very friendly and helpful.The house is also very nice and offered enough space for all of us. There is a very nice hot tub on the property.But unfortunately, there are very strict rules. For example, you are not allowed to use the outdoor area after 9 p.m..We were told that after this time we had to be quiet and keep all windows and doors closed.We received this information just the day before our arrival. If we had known beforehand we would never have booked this house.We felt like we were in prison, and this is why we left the day before.It would be correct to disclose this information in the advertisement.

Hidden treasure near SD Zoo

The property was very unique and nestled in the hills of San Diego. It was in close proximity to the zoo and in a nice, quiet neighborhood. The check-in process was easy. The owner was always very quick to reply to any questions. The house was clean and spacious, well stocked, and the beds were comfortable. We would recommend staying at this location when visiting San Diego.

Peaceful hideaway right in the middle

The Buddha House is calm and relaxing, with great outdoor spaces. So nice to read a book or have a beer on one of the decks hidden in the trees. At the same time just a couple blocks from Vons, coffee shops, restaurants, and perfect access to almost every neighborhood. Our host was super accommodating when we needed it!

Beautiful but flawed

Buddha house & its surrounding gardens are beautiful. But it needs some attention. The house had a very strong “wet” smell. Opening all the windows did nothing to mitigate it. Lower level bedroom door was not working. Had to fix it to use bedroom. There were no extra towels to use hot tub. There was no extra toilet paper & roll was only a half. The garden pathways and stairs to hot tub are hazardous. Hanging wires, broken concrete, uneven surfaces. There are “we are not responsible for accidents” signs posted everywhere. So using them was a definite risk. None of this was listed online. The garden was a huge draw in the listing. Very disappointed we couldn’t enjoy them. The welcome letter stated to not use the driveway to the front door “as there have been many broken ankles”. Stated to use the stairs & bridge. These were a trip hazard as well.difficult to take a suitcase up. All in all the property is beautiful but not what the listing showed.

Wonderful stay

The house is very beautiful, Zapher is a great host we met him as we was pulling up and he gave us a tour of the property, he was very communicative and got back to us promptly with whatever question we had, the property is beautiful with a Koi pond and waterfall and just a Seren relaxing vibe will definitely book again when I'm back in the area

Excellent stay, great host

Great and unique property, with lots of cool details indoor and outdoor. Lots of places to chill and take in the scenery, very comfortable sleeping in the bedrooms and cooking meals. Location allows for very easy access to most points of interest and beaches in the city. Overall just an excellent experience staying here with 3 kids. The host is fantastic. We hope to be back again soon!

Highly recommend this lovely home! It was spotless, well stocked with everything you could possibly need. Beds were extremely comfortable. Excellent communication with Zapher - very clear and easy check in and check out information. The hot tub is fantastic. Just the property in general is fabulous. So peaceful you forget you are in the middle of a huge city. Wonderful location and the sweetest dog, Anni. I highly recommend. Can't wait to go back!

Amazing home

Had such an amazing stay at this house. 100% recommend. The location, the property, and the owner were all perfect. The host was so welcoming and friendly. The pictures of the property don’t even do it justice, such a beautiful and unique space. Don’t wait on booking this one because you won’t be disappointed.

Zoo trip

We loved staying here!.. it was so peaceful and a great location for old town, the zoo, MIDWAY Museum. Our host was quick to respond and made our stay flawless.. would definitely recommend this property.

This is an incredibly unique property. It's a single family home on a nice large lot. It's in the heart of the city but you feel like you're in the middle of a jungle in Costa Rica. The walkability of this house is also so central that you can walk to Hillcrest, Mission Hills and Balboa Park within 10-15 minutes. Little Italy and downtown are about a 30-40 minute walk.

It's incredibly secluded with lush tropical landscaping. Please note, in the winter months the landscaping is not the same as the spring and summer. San Diego does have seasons although they are not huge season changes like the midwest. The photos on this property were taken in the spring.
