From the unvaccumed floors and rugs covered in food and dust bunnies and god knows what else, to the stained old thin blankets on the beds, and the months out of date tea and coffee, our two night stay was one of the most disappointing and underwhelming experiences we have ever had. Against COVID safe recommendations there were no individual soaps or toiletries provided, just a big (partially used) body wash dispenser and bottle of (again used) anti dandruff shampoo in the cupboard, both of which had seen better days. Although we were aware that there were some stairs at the property, it was not made obvious exactly how many stairs and my older parents both had difficulty managing the staircase up to the bedrooms.
The state of all of the furniture was tired and in some cases actually in need of a good clean. We weren’t expecting 5 stars and to be fair, the building itself is beautiful, but everything about this place was cheap and sub standard. It doesn’t take much to make a place welcoming, clean floors and in date tea and coffee and sugar (no milk was on offer of course) would be a good start. And if you are going to leave passive aggressive signs about washing the dishes (there is no dishwasher) then please provide dishwashing detergent and an unused cloth - we sterilised the used chux before use.
Maybe the email from the owner which featured quite a few ALL CAPS instructions should have warned us, but we foolishly went ahead with the booking. Unless you are happy with staying somewhere that is a nostalgic reminder of a shabby share house, I’d recommend booking somewhere else
