Let me first say that I have utilized VRBO probably 15 times over the past 5-10 years. Our family (5 children, many grandchildren) has had annual family reunions over the past 10 years.
The house had themed bedrooms that our grandchildren enjoyed. The pool was small (these are cookie-cutter homes) but worked fine. The children enjoyed the pool table and the game room (although the game room, a converted garage, was not well-lit, the air hockey game was very loud [babies present], and the game station had electronic issues). Also, we did enjoy the clubhouse.
Our major issues had to do with 3 areas: 1. Lack of communication, 2. Miscommunication, and 3. Misrepresentation.
1. Lack of communication. We were never informed that we would NOT HAVE EITHER A DISHWASHER OR A WASHING MACHINE to use at the facility. We had 16 family members present, all of which expected an on-site washing machine. I arrived, and the first comment from the inspector that was present (after 4:00 PM) was "You know about the problem with the dishwasher and washing machine...right?" No, I didn't, because there was no communication. I should also add that I sent 10-15 messages to the owner about this AND OTHER issues. I received responses 2-3 times.
2. Miscommunication. We had minor problems with pre-visit instructions (e.g. they state that you can register online OR at the Visitors Center...in reality, you MUST visit the Visitors Center before going to the property). Also, the instructions ON THE PROPERTY seem to be very generic, especially with regard to electronics. Not very helpful. We had multiple issues with various televisions. If I had not had substantial experience with electronics, this could have been a major issue.
3. Misrepresentation. As above, we expected to have a dishwasher and washing machine at the house, which we did not have. My reunion family of 16 were forced to go offsite multiple times just to do laundry. After multiple complaints, we were informed by the owner that 1) she understood the problem, and 2) we would be compensated with $200 for the time and effort of this problem. We were given a $30 laundromat card. WE NEVER RECEIVED THE COMPENSATION THAT WAS PROMISED.
While the home had some nice features, this is one of the worst owner-renter experiences that I have encountered with VRBO. I would NOT rent from this owner again.
