Our walk-on waterfront home underwent a custom build in 2019, performed by the owner himself, who is an award-winning general contractor. The home is a delight to stay in at any time of year. In the summer, the 18 foot accordion doors open onto the 1600 square foot NW-facing oceanfront deck, where you will see seals, sea lions and perhaps even orcas. We enjoy the most amazing sunsets, whether viewed from the comfortable lounge furniture around the fire bowl or from the infinity edge deck hot tub. Our "cook's kitchen" (with double steam wall ovens and a 50 square foot island), is a pleasure to cook in, with good food shopping options available at large and small grocery stores and farmers market/farm stand options. For those who love home design, we built encompassing many green and hi tech features, truly positioning it as a home for the 21st century. A robust rainwater harvesting system supplies all the water needs of the home and property while the heating is provided by a modern hydronic system, comprised of hydronic solar and hydronic wood burning, with a high-efficiency propane boiler back-up. The 0.5 acre fully fenced and gated property is very private and allows for peaceful relaxation during the day and exceptional sleeps at night. Our property is a few minute's walk from the Twin Beaches, Gabriola's main swimming beaches. For those who love to walk, you will so enjoy our neighbourhood itself and the 170 km of trails on the island (www.galtt.ca) Gabriola Island is easily reached from downtown Nanaimo via a 20 minute ferry or via floatplane, either directly onto Gabriola or into Nanaimo harbour. Everything you will need to enjoy your time on the "Isle of the Arts" is here, from a Nester's market to a variety of restaurants, a golf course. fitness centre, community activities and kayak and paddle board rentals. The island also offers a small hospital/urgent care centre, pharmacy and a range of medical practitioners. We feel very lucky to have a home in the secluded waterfront, yet very forested Twin Beaches/De Courcey neighbourhood. The entry onto our property is park-like, with the mature Pacific Northwest green, making it so tranquil and quiet. Once we stepped onto the oceanside of our property, we were sold.
