Looking for a true mountain lodging experience? Hoping to see an impressive night sky? Craving a few days of total peace and quiet? You have found it all! This interesting mountain home, Aurora was well thought out and built by a true lover of Canaan Valley, and all Tucker County. Located on Canaan Heights, this practical home is especially close to the popular towns of Davis and Thomas. Once you do the “touristy” stuff, relax in peace, quiet and mountain magic. Enjoy a full kitchen, cozy bedrooms, and multiple TV’s. Right outside the door there are plenty of paths for hiking, biking and nature watching. This one is special! Come stay-right away! 4-wheel drive required.

Great stay

Great location, loved the house ! Only down side was that the mattresses were equivalent to summer camp mattresses. If you don't like firm mattresses, bring your own foam toppers and the stay will be perfect!

Great views!

We enjoyed our stay at the Aurora house! The house had everything we needed and kitchen was well equipped (we cooked at the house for most meals). We loved the views from the deck--it was especially nice at sunrise. It's also a great location for exploring Canaan Valley and Blackwater Falls State Park. We would definitely stay here again.

Aurora house

Very spacious. Beautiful view from the deck. Lots of natural beauty in the area. Very close to town of Davis and Thomas. Would stay again.

Our stay for this visit was good, the only issue was the AC. It was working however it was warm the entire stay. I think the coolest it got was 74 in the cabin. We are not sure if this was due to the weather being warmer than it was last year when we stayed. Other than this the cabin is nice .

Aurora/President's Day Weekend

Have always had great experiences with Best of Canaan management. Easy check in process. House was very clean. Four wheel drive is necessary if snow is present-fairly steep and narrow road to house. Great kitchen,living room and deck with great views. Short drive to ski resorts, state parks and the town of Davis. Would definitely stay here again.

Quiet Private

This property is at the end of a quiet road. Easy to find, quiet and private. A short drive to Blackwater Falls State Park, Davis and Thomas, and/or a gorgeous walk/hike just right outside your door. Everything was clean and there were plenty of linens. The only negative is the approach from the driveway to the entry steps, it's muddy, and needs a sidewalk or path. The management is stellar and responsive I cannot stress more how wonderful the management is for this property.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had a very nice experience at the Aurora - absolutely loved the remote location and beautiful view. The cabin was very comfortable and clean. The only thing is that for the length of our stay we did not have adequate supplies, such as toilet paper, trash bags, dishwasher tabs, etc., so make sure to pack these things.

The downstairs isn’t completed, but the upstairs was big enough for the 6 of us. It was close to Canaan Valley Ski Resort and Blackwater Falls. The views from the house were phenomenal. We will probably stay here in the future.

Celebrate family

The property was extremely close to my husband dads, which is why we chose the location. The house was very nice and clean lots of room granite we only sleep there we stayed at his dads most of the time. The beds we not so comfortable, which we found very surprising for a what seems fairly new cabin. The couch on the other hand was extremely nice and very comfortable. Other than the beds we have absolutely no complaints on the property. Oh one last thing there are no stepping stones or walking path to the front door which was a tad difficult due to all the rain we got while we was there.

Worth the view.

That mountain top view is absolutely beautiful. The cabin amenities are comfortable but basic. We were happy with our stay.

Beautiful Veiw

Nice, quiet, secluded. Just 5 miles from town. Only 1 other house close by. 4 wheel drive a must. The sunrise from the deck was amazing. It was just the 2 of us but there 3 rooms and 2 bathrooms, fireplace and fire pit outside.

Almost Heaven

This house was way better then the pictures shows! Beautiful and peaceful! Truly re-energized my soul. Butterflies and wild flowers where everywhere. The stars and moon at night on the deck where stunning!

Peaceful stay in Tucker County

We had a wonderful stay in Tucker County. House is located at the top of a mountain. It was so peaceful and quiet up there. The house was very clean and roomy. You can watch flying squirrels from the campfire area in backyard at night which was really neat! The mattresses could use a refresh as they were a little worn and not the most comfortable but that didn’t stop us from getting a good nights sleep there. I would recommend having 4 wheel drive to get there as the roads are mountain roads and are windy and steep. House is close to Blackwater Falls, and Cannan Valley State Park for lots of hiking with incredible views. We particularly enjoyed hiking in Dolly Sods which is about 50 minutes from the home. The views here were incredible! I would definitely recommend this property to the nature lovers looking for a quiet getaway!

Reviewer Comments: The house was very clean, hot water was great, and the kitchen was pretty well appointed with pots and pans, glasses, silverware, and extras like some spices. There was no dish scrubber. The Wifi was terribly slow when we did use it. There are some games and jigsaw puzzles. One of the puzzles was missing multiple pieces and previous guests had left comments inside the box. Just note the entire basement is unfinished so it's not usable space. If you are coming in winter, YOU WILL NEED 4WD OR CHAINS. The plow came multiple times while we were there so we weren't concerned about getting stuck.

Reviewer Comments: The house itself was pleasant enough, however the picture is a bit deceiving in that the entire bottom floor is mostly unfinished, therefore livable space is only on one floor. No where in the advertisement does it mention the drive requires AWD or 4WD and had I not called the night before to confirm our arrival (because I never received communication since the original confirmation day of booking - several weeks prior to our arrival)did I learn that an AWD or 4WD vehicle would be necessary. It was difficult to get anyone in the office to actually help brainstorm options given it was not mentioned in the advertisement and had I not asked, I was sure to have been stuck after the snow storm rolled through Davis and the mountains. Thank goodness I decided to (and could actually find) rent an AWD SUV just to ensure I could make it home the day after the storm. While I appreciate the experience, and the home is a nice home, I think there needs to be clearer information about the home and any requirements in navigating the road and driveway. Having said this, all appliances worked, we had plenty of hot water, the fireplace was awesome, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I also appreciate the extra time allowed in our departure, and the plow coming to clear the driveway and road out - that was super helpful.
