This is the residential part of the affluent 8th arrondissement, tucked just behind the Champs Elysées but without the tourists. Your neighbors will mainly be wealthy families but you will also come across quite a few workers going to the office too. It's a safe part of town, well positioned for exploring more vibrant neighborhoods like Batignolles, Pigalle, or even Grands Boulevards. You'll find lots of high-end shops around Madeleine.

The Champs Elysees is one of the most famous streets in the world, so be prepared to come up against a fair few tourists, though you can sidestep the hordes pretty easily by exploring the side streets just off the main drag.
