This was a great home base for exploring the area on some trails. Bancroft town is fairly close too, with a number of shops and restaurants available. Was a nice quiet break from the city.

We had a nice 8 night stay. Everything was thoughtfully laid out in each room - books, nightlights, fans, decorations, board games. A lot of the furniture and kitchen decorations were antique and felt like you were at the cottage. We played 80’s board games in the morning, drove to the lake during the day and had campfires with s’mores in the evening. We also went for walks after dinner as a family along the back roads and were able to see the nice scenery with very little traffic. The property was well kept outside with gardening that attracted the hummingbirds to the flowers. It was very nice sitting outside enjoying the quiet away from the city. The host was very attentive to our needs, however you still felt like you had privacy even though they lived on the second floor. We enjoyed our stay at the “supply cottage” - which was what our daughter called it since we unable to stay at our own cottage this year.

We had a family getaway at Birch Haven and it was a lovely experience. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed to cook our food. The rooms were well furnished. The outdoor firepit was very nice, just bring your own firewood. We didn't know that but it was easy to buy some firewood from owners on-site as they live in the upper section of the house. Deb was highly responsive and kept us posted on all updates. Overall a very nice stay.

Staying at Birch Haven

The property is set back away from the road and opens up to reveal the place you will be staying. It is quiet and serene. A short drive to Papineau beach or Bancroft to get supplies. Debora is a wonderful host who is sure to make your stay comfortable and has a number of resources to help you find the activities to take part in around Bancroft. The place is very nice, clean and quiet. Would definitely recommend.

Overall, our stay was quite disappointing. One of the issues was the cleanliness of the property. As soon as we walked in, we were hit with a strong musty, stale smell that made the space feel unpleasant right away. We ended up spraying perfume throughout the unit just to make it more bearable. Many of the countertops and other surfaces also appeared dirty, and the entire place felt unclean and poorly maintained. The listing also wasn’t entirely accurate. While there isn’t any water on or near the property, that wasn’t a major issue for us. Our biggest concern was that the owners live in the same house. The space is separated into two units, but this was never disclosed in the listing. When sitting outside by the campfire, several of the owners’ windows overlook the fire pit, making it feel like you have very little privacy. Had I known this beforehand, I likely would have booked somewhere else. The fire pit itself is also in poor condition, with several large holes in the metal that made us question how safe it was to use.On a positive note, the owners were friendly and accommodating. When we needed firewood for our campfire, they kindly brought some over for us, which we really appreciated.Overall, the lack of cleanliness, the undisclosed shared living situation, and the condition of the outdoor amenities made this stay much less enjoyable than we had expected.

I am retired and have the space to share. I want to give people a less expensive way to enjoy a peaceful stay in an apartment like setting.

この宿泊施設のオーナーになった理由

Quiet, trees and lots of different lakes and beaches around. I love ATVing and leave right from my driveway.

We have a full apartment to offer rather than just one room. Place for children to run around safely outside.
