We’re sorry to hear that our home did not meet your expectations. One of our primary goals as hosts is to clearly set expectations through our listing and communication, and to ask the right questions to ensure our property is a good fit for each guest. We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback, as it helps us improve going forward. In reviewing our correspondence, we did recommend renting a golf cart, as transportation can greatly enhance a guest’s experience on Water Island. We understand you were only able to secure one for a single day. Access to a golf cart is especially important for mobility and ease of exploring the island, and we do wish we had been made aware of any mobility concerns in advance so we could better advise you. We also see that you were in contact with our on-site property manager during your stay while we were traveling remotely. We will follow up with her to ensure she more clearly introduces herself and her role to future guests. Water Island, while just minutes from St. Thomas, offers a uniquely remote and tropical experience—very much a getaway from suburban comforts. Many of our guests enjoy the natural surroundings, including the tortoises, hermit crabs, and ever-changing landscape around the home. With that natural environment, there are occasionally other elements of island living as well. Our pest control service treated the property prior to your arrival and returned for additional environmentally friendly treatment after you shared your concerns. As with most tropical environments, however, pests can reappear if food sources are left accessible. We appreciate your feedback and hope it helps future guests better understand the experience of staying on Water Island.

So sorry to hear you were so unhappy. It was unfortunate that the severe weather hit Saint Thomas, Saint John and Water Island with a series of rolling blackouts. We were very lucky that our power loss was relatively brief and the power came back on faster than most of Saint Thomas and Saint John. I did offer you a refund for your remaining days, but you chose to stay after checking out the alternatives. As with most houses in the Virgin Islands, our house relies on rain water stored in cisterns and the water does not flow without electricity and obviously neither does the internet, but luckily we have outstanding 5g of cellular data. I do advise all of my guests to rent golf on the island but you already had committed to a car on neighboring Saint Thomas which obviously did not do you any good on our Island. We tried very hard to accommodate you, picking you up at the ferry dock, offering you rides when we could. This house is defined in the listing “Bohemian living”and the listing clearly states that the bedrooms have air conditioning and common area is cooled by ceiling fans and sea breezes. Very typical of similar properties. For the safety of our neighboring guests, we do not offer or advertise the neighboring pool. Water Island offers the kind of island life that has almost disappeared after the last 50 years of development. We are so sorry it was not right for you.

Thanks for the very fair review and being our first tenant while we worked through our rehab. You had a great attitude in understanding our property and we have addressed each of the short comings you mentioned including replacing the stove and new refrigerator
