Upscale House 50 Yds From Beach With Spectacular Ocean View

TRUE RENTAL BY OWNER- NOT A LINK TO PROPERTY MANAGEMENT COMPANY- What The Shell is a (Sun/Sun) vacation rental nearly ocean front to Frisco's south beach area and one of the best one lot back for the value. The vacant adjacent lot provides an unobstructed oceanfront view throughout the house. Along with perfect location, it has all the amenities to provide the perfect relaxation retreat after long days of Hatteras Island activities.

What the Shell has a private pool with expanded shallow end great for little ones or sun bathing, 8 ppl hot tub on 2nd level ocean view deck and at most a 50yd walk to the beach. The outside area has under house parking, fish cleaning station, footwash and hot/cold enclosed shower. All weather entry gives access to 1st floor.

The first floor has an extra large bedroom suite with a queen bed, futon and large TV/DVD/VCR. Also a mini kitchen that includes full refrig. dishwasher, sink, microwave, coffee pot and utensils. A full bath/shower makes it an ideal second master for small family, grandparents or teens.

The second floor has a master bedroom with ocean view, flat screen TV/DVD, slider to hot tub and private custom tile bathroom with dual shower. Across the hall is a Queen with ocean view, LCD TV/DVD and double sinked bathroom with full tub/shower that adjoins bunk room. Bunkroom has two bunk sets, LCD TV/DVD/PlayStation2 and books. There is a common hallway to all 2nd floor bedrooms that provides additional access to 2nd floor deck with hot tub.

The upstairs living area has a half bath with washer/dryer for convenience. The expansive open Great Room has laminate hardwood floors and spectacular ocean views from nearly every window. New furnishings with large flat screen, DVD, stereo and plenty of books provide relaxing entertainment after a long day at beach. The dinner table located near slider provides dining with ocean view. The large kitchen has a long breakfast bar with Corian countertops and is overstocked with utensils for the best cooks. The furnished upper level deck with sunbathing chairs and cover table area provides hours of beautiful ocean views and star filled moonlit night skies.

We only got to stay one night of our week. Our vacation was washed out by a Hurricane Erin and a mandatory evacuation of Hatteras issued 1 hour after check in. Anne was in constant communication about the situation all week and was very responsive to make sure everything was okay. We hoped to salvage at least a few days at the beach but the storm surge and damage just didn’t allow for it. We only had one night but the house was the cleanest rental I’ve ever experienced. The home is well appointment, the pantry has lots of spices and things like cooking oil. There is a closet with beach chairs umbrellas sand toys etc. Easy access to beach, with a view of the ocean from the top deck. The pool is well designed and has a large walk out shallow pad for children and lounging. I will definitely rent What the Shell next time I visit OBX.

Perfection on OBX

My family and I just finished our vacation at this property and I had to get on and write a review ASAP. I’ve stayed at dozens of properties on VRBO over the years and this is, by far, the best yet. The pictures don’t do this property justice. The house is immaculately maintained, extremely spacious, and beautifully decorated. It was stocked with everything imaginable that my family could need for our trip. It was a very short walk to the beach and located in a great area that gave us access to everything in Hatteras, Frisco, Buxton, and Avon with a short drive. The owner, Anne, is also a joy to work with and went above and beyond to be accommodating for us. If you are looking for the perfect place for a family vacation, this is it.

Loved this house!

Anne was a wonderful host and had gifts for the kids upon our arrival. I have never stayed in a rental that clean before! Our stay was perfect and great memories made with our family! I highly recommend this rental!

The Beach House

Stay at What the Shell

Our week was excellent, Anne was very easy to communicate with and the home was clean and as advertised. The location was excellent, a short walk to the beach. Many eateries and markets around to keep us well fed and stocked with necessities. We want to come back in the future. Frisco and Hatteras Village are uncrowded and that added to our wonderful trip.

Best vacation

The reviews are spot on. Cleanest property I've ever rented. Host is wonderful. Clear instructions and immediate responses. My family of eight stayed for a week and halfway through the trip they wanted to make this our regular trip. The house has everything you can think of and more. Can't wait to come back. June 2024

Awesome rental!

Dont hesitate to book this house! The location was great, pool was awesome, house was perfect. Most well stocked kitchen I've ever experienced in a vrbo rental. Communication directly with owner was prompt and friendly. I think you get such better service than going through a rental that uses a management company. There were so many little extra things and touches here and there. It was the perfect rental for our multi family trip!

Great time at What the Shell!

Can’t recommend this property highly enough! Anne was great with communication from the time I inquired about the property until the time we were on the road! She was responsive to all questions along the way. Her house was immaculate upon arrival and we knew exactly what was expected of us as guests. She gave GREAT fishing and island advice so we felt like pros from the start. Her house was equipped with anything we could think of which saved us so much space in the car! Would recommend What the Shell to any family or friend looking for a beautiful property with a great host!

Beautiful house steps away from the beach

This house was amazing and so perfect for our family. First of all, the location was everything we had hoped for only being a 2 minute walk to get your toes in the sand. The pool was a great setup although we didn't get to enjoy due to the colder September temps. The house itself was perfect for a big family with lots of space and a great big area for everyone to hang out near the kitchen. And then to top it all off, Anne and her husband were lovely hosts. There was a welcome basket with goodies and snacks for our kiddos and they went above and beyond in communication. I had a few questions while packing and she was so quick to respond. They thought of everything in this house and we can't wait to come back!

Quiet, relaxing and very close to the water!

Our family of 10 enjoyed our stay at What the shell. Anne was very responsive and kept in contact to make sure everything was okay. The home provides plenty of space inside and out for everyone to enjoy their space alone or together. There are plenty of options depending on weather with the pool and hot tub. The pool is very well designed for small children as it has a large walk out pad that is shallow. The town is quiet and easy to navigate. The beach was clear and clean and not crowded. We were able to walk down and set up right near the house, come and go as we pleased for lunch, and sun breaks. This was the most relaxing beach vacation we have taken thus far.

“What the the Shell”

It was our First time in Frisco and loved this quaint little town. “What the Shell” is a beautiful cozy beach house that had every amenity that you would need. The kitchen was equipped to to handle all our food and beverage preparation needs! The house was spotless. The pool and hot tub was used almost everyday! The view and the breeze was so relaxing. Our host indulged is with complimentary ingredients to make s’mores on the beach! She made feel comfortable as though we were family staying at her house and was readily available to answer our questions. There were 7 of us that were very comfortable in this spacious beach house. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend this beautiful rental!

We usually travel to the OBX when we need some beach time. It is just so much more relaxing than our beaches in MD/DE. Because we were going in June this year I thought it wise to head farther south than we normally go in hopes of having warmer weather and water. Well, we lucked out. If you are not already aware Frisco is a southward facing beach on the east coast so it gets warmer waters coming up the coast from the south. The beach itself is absolutely fantastic. But really I am here to let you know about "What The Shell" so I'll fill you in on what I think.~ When we arrived we were thrilled to see that it is very close to the beach. Just one lot back. And caddy corner to the right there is an empty lot that from what I understand can't be built on so you have a beautiful view of the Atlantic. The house itself was spotless! The decor is tasteful and the furniture is comfy. There were 8 of us for part of the week then 2 others joined us halfway through and there was ample seating for all of us at the table. We cooked a lot in the well stocked kitchen and were able to all sit comfortably at the table for family dinners. Which was great since we never get to all sit down and eat a meal together during our busy work/sports/school filled lives. It was something I treasured while at WTS. Recounting the days moments with my family at that table is now a precious memory. The only thing I would suggest when it comes to the kitchen, if you are going to cook a lot as we did, would be to bring your own knives. The ones there were a bit dull but if that is my only suggestion then you can't go wrong with this house. ~ When it comes to the bedrooms I think they were lovely. The bedding and decor was beautiful. The bathrooms were nice. I noticed hairdryers in the vanity cabinets. Didn't use them but they were there. There were 4 BR, master had a very comfortable mattress. I honestly can't comment on the others because I did not sleep in them but I heard no complaints from anyone and my guess is that they are good quality mattresses as well. The pool is fantastic! Lots of good lounge chairs. Spent a lot of time on the top deck looking out at the ocean. Nice Adirondack chairs up there for reading or just soaking in the serenity of the beach. All in all this house was perfect for us. The owners were a dream to work with. They went above and beyond to help make our stay memorable. You can't go wrong at WTS! ( I could go on and on but there is a limit)

Perfect House

House is set up perfectly everything you need is there. The house was very clean. All of the extra amenities saved a lot of packing. We will be booking again very soon. Anne is a great host, and her knowledge and experience really shine with this house. Thanks, Mike

Fantastic property, location and owner!

We had a lovely, relaxing time at What the Shell! This house had everything we could possibly need. It was very clean and comfortable. We loved the easy access to beach. The pool and the hot tub were great when we didn’t want to get sandy. Lots of great places to eat with a short drive. I would love to stay here again. The only thing I missed were bike paths.

Perfection

Our family loved this property! Having 3 kids of varying ages the pool was a huge hit. Amenities were the best I have seen in a rental property...EVERYTHING we needed and then some. The home was super clean upon arrival and Anne, the owner, had left us an amazing gift bag including a kite, makings for s'mores and a nice bottle of wine. The dune over to the ocean is a little steep and I only mention that for folks with toddlers as our 3 year old struggled a little. We highly recommend What The Shell...amazing family vacation! We found Hatteras some 30yrs ago searching for a new surf fishing location and destination to get away from it all. Living in Maryland many of our childhood vacations experiences were spent in Ocean City. The non-commercialized, less hustle & bustle vacation atmosphere of Hatteras Island, along with its natural beauty and unbounded recreational experiences has kept us returning ever since. From our families first footsteps in the sand to sand castles and kiddy pools on south beach, ghost crab hunting, campfires/star gazing on the beach, fishing, surfing, kite boarding, and many ferry trips to Ocracoke, Hatteras Island has become our families favorite destination.

Years ago we vacationed along northern beaches of Avon until a local let us in on a secret-(well known now) on Hatteras Island--south beaches! One trip down past Cape Point to Frisco beaches and we never returned. Here vacationers escape the howl of NE winds and enjoy the gentle summer SW winds. If you are seeking the tropical island feel with calmer, warmer clear waters, south beach area in Frisco is the best location on Hatteras Island. For families with children there is no better beach. The gentle beach slope provides safe more calmers waters perfect for swimming, surfing, SUP boards, snorkeling and an abundance of other beach activities. During spring and fall the water temps are 5-10 warmer than those of northern beaches. Our family could enjoy warm waters conditions in the off season, while the fisherman in our group headed north to cape point or south to inlet for the big catch. During the later fall season of October- Jan the best puppy drum and trout fishing on the island is right in front of the house.

It took only one look in What The Shell, and we were hooked. It's closeness to beach, beautiful layout with perfect amenities along with pool and hot tub made our decision so easy. Besides it's newness, the most appealing part of the interior was the huge open living area/kitchen (no squeezed in extra bedrooms)with ocean view out nearly every window. I couldn't wait to enjoy time here with all my family. We have created so many wonderful memories in just the few seasons we've been here. We leave each time sad to go but anxious to plan the next visit. We hope by sharing What The Shell, your family will enjoy the many experiences Hatteras Island has to offer while creating treasured vacation memories of a lifetime.
