Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Gorgeous view! Sat on the balcony and saw pods of dolphins and turtles every morning! Very clean property! Had all the little amenities in the condo needed even AC but had great cross ventilation so was ok with us. Stairs were a little difficult with luggage but otherwise good for our legs.

Carpet was gross, I usually like to be bare foot and i had to wear my shoes as the carpet felt gross. I did see a couple of cockroaches in the kitchen and bathroom but that happens in Maui.

The only way to stay in Maui

This is the best place to come for a relaxing, intimate close to the ocean stay.

There was no a/c, but with the fans and wind we had no problem with the heat.

Home away from paradise!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We were so comfortable in this condo complex. The owner residents as well as other vacationers were so friendly, relaxed, and helpful. We loved the intimate feel of the complex rather than being in a large resort; it was like having a private beach and pool. The condo is adequately appointed, has incredible second story views, walkable to the park, food carts, coffee shop, gift store, etc. We enjoyed our down time on the property just as much as our daylong excursions around the island. We felt very much at home and definitely preferred it to a hotel resort. Can't wait to return!

Only suggestion is to upgrade the mattress on the sofa sleeper or add a mattress pad. Other than that everything was wonderful!

Perfect Stay

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Everything about Hale Kai was exactly what we wanted. Check in and out was easy. There was always parking which was included. We could walk down the stairs and be in the water with turtles and fish. Easy walking to lots of great food options. The condo had everything we needed to relax after exploring all day. I can not say enough about how wonderful this all was.

Free Bus service for 60+ is perk, no car needed. Views from the deck are gorgeous even without whales.Unit 218 is fine for two people. Unit has deferred maintenance that detracts visually but everything functions well.Furniture and bed very comfortable, not worn.

nice location, needs updating

We enjoyed our stay at this property. It has a great view of the ocean, a clean pool, and access to a great beach for the kids. I spent a lot of time on the balcony watching the whales and sunsets.The property wasn't quite ready for us when we checked in, even though we were there way past check-in time. We didn't get access to the wifi and other things because of this. The ceiling fan also broke during our stay, where one of the blades fell off. I would rate this property as excellent if they updated it from the 80s. Valerie the property manager did help us out once the fan broke and she got us the information about the wifi.

Right there on the water!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We enjoyed our time in 218 at Hale Kai. The view of the ocean only 100 feet in front of our lanai, and the lit pool at night was beautiful. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking. Just make sure you bring all your own spices, etc. Some of the furnishings and bathroom items would be appreciated if updated, but hey, we sure did enjoy our stay. The full time residences at Hale Kai are delightful. They meet every sundown at the pool and have a conch blowing ceremony to say goodbye to another day. They are a very social group, and corral newbies into their fold. We’d welcome the opportunity to stay there again.

It's Paradise!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: I could hear the sound of crashing waves opened the doors to the porch and slept to that beautiful music from the first evening. Hale Kai was neat, clean, and well organized. I especially appreciated the laundry and tips on how to get around the island, including by bus. I would not want to stay in the same unit again unless it has a serious renovation. Carpets and drapes were very old and dirty and need replacing. Fortunately, I spent most of my time on the lovely porch. Mahalo nui!

Two Week Stay March 1-16th 2022

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We loved our stay. It was our 3rd year in #218 and we have already booked next year. The Management staff is fantastic. Melody is a true gem. Trip who works on the grounds was very nice and helpful. We were glad that an additional foam pad was put on the bed. Big improvement over last year. I know you need negative reviews also so improvements can be made. So here are some. We would love to see the hide-a-bed couch replaced sometime. Hurts our backs to sit on because of the support and as most hide-a-beds the metal bar under the mattress makes it almost impossible to use as a bed. The internet was a different services this year (Spectrum) It was so slow you could hardly use it. Tried to reboot several times but it did not help. I would suggest replacing the vacuum cleaner. Putting a new good mop in the unit would be nice so we could clean the floors better while there. The current one is very old. The louver windows were very dirty. My wife cleaned them all. Plus the vent covers and ceiling fans were filthy and my wife cleaned them also. If I owned one of these units I would want to know this. We also understand that replacing things is costly in Hawaii but we thought we should suggest them. Thank you.

Staying at Hale Kai

Reviewer Comments: We have stayed here before and always enjoy it. As usual everyone that staying at Hale Kai was very friendly and happy! Miss the Conch at 6 pm! But there was a few flaws since our last visit here, the BIG # 1 issue was the TV it was SO difficult to figure out how to use it, (at time we couldn't even watch TV.) Last time we were here it was much easier to use, get rid of Spectrum ( You change TV Co. since we were here last.) The 2nd issue was no one was available in the office but ONE day the whole 8 days we were there.
