I över 60 år har Hawthorn Cottage välkomnat par till historiska Somesville och Acadia National Park. Hawthorn Cottage delar med vårt hem och Juniper Cottage två vackert anlagda tunnland kantade med vilda blåbärbuskar. Gräsmattan är öppen och solig, med trädgårdar och skugga träd nära stugan och ett skuggat däck för att observera Somesvilles invånare örnar och fiskgjordar. Du kan gå till vårt bibliotek, repertoar, museum och till havet eller Somes Pond för ett dopp. Uthyrningsveckor löper lördag till lördag, med undantag för JUNI, eller sen höst, när vi kan vara flexibla.

Great Little Cottage

Host is very responsive and helpful. Kitchen and bath well stocked. It is tight quarters, but folding door separates the bedroom from the living area, for your partner that wakes up early or stays up late. A good home base on the quiet side of the park.

Lovely cottage

This cottage had everything we could need or want. The owner lives on the property and is very kind and helpful. You couldn’t ask for a better location. It was very close to all attractions and yet very quiet.

July Honeymoon

Property was cozy and secluded, exactly what we wanted for our national park honeymoon! Kitchen was well stocked and temperature was easy to control. The water pressure in the shower could be a little better but in a small place like this it’s to be expected and didn’t affect our enjoyment whatsoever. Beautiful stay!

Honeymoon Happiness

We chose this cottage for our honeymoon, and it was everything we hoped for and more! Cozy, serene, and neat, it made for a perfect home away from home. It was centrally located to all our adventures exploring Acadia and MDI. We were just as excited to return to the cottage as we were to explore! Check the local newspaper on the chest for local happenings and events that are definitely worth checking out! We will hopefully be back for a future anniversary trip!

Quaint, peaceful and quiet stay, 6/17 - 6/21

I would highly recommend booking. All the comforts of home and more. We saw a doe and her fawn behind the cottage, what a sight to see! Only 15 minutes to downtown Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park, We enjoyed e bike riding the Carriage Roads, Echo Lake Beach, and dining in downtown Bar Harbor. Ivy Manor has outside fire pits we enjoyed with a cocktail after dinner. Merilee was very attentive and quick to reply. A memorable vacation, thank you!

Great little cottage

Great little cottage centrally located between the west and east sides of MDI; made travel to most locations around the island only a 10-15 minute drive. Quiet neighborhood and communicative hosts. I recommend Coffee Matter/Mother's Kitchen just up the road for your daily coffee and pastries.

Lovely Stay

This cute little house was the perfect place for my planned trip with my boyfriend. The place had everything we needed and was in a fabulous location. Nothing was too far or too close; it was away from busy crowds but still in a central location that made everything pretty accessible. The host was also so sweet and communicative. We came into town pretty late into the evening and she was still very responsive! I definitely recommend this place!

Acadia N P trip

Very nice, cozy house with a relaxing setting. Great outdoor space. Has everything you need inside (even coffee!) Convenient location for hiking in Acadia N P or going into Bar Harbor without the hustle and bustle of staying in Bar Harbor. Host was friendly and very welcoming.

Quel bel endroit!

Très bien situé pour visiter Mount Desert Island et, en plus, très tranquille. Le cottage est grand, fort bien équipé et, en prime, décoré avec goût. Lit très confortable et table judicieusement placée pour observer les chevreuils qui nous visitent en début de soirée. Marilee nous a fait des suggestions intéressantes pour profiter à plein des environs.

Absolutely wonderful!

Everything about our stay was perfect. Somesville is a great location from which to explore the island; our cottage was so cozy, well appointed and comfortable; and our hosts, Merilee and Ken, were two of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. We are sad to be leaving, but we know we’ll be back!

Anniversary Trip

This was honestly the best vacation we have ever been on. The cottage had everything we needed and it was very cute. We were able to prepare full meals when needed. MDI is very beautiful and we can't wait to come back and explore more of the beautiful area!

Benefits of the quiet side

Somesville is uniquely situated for access to all that busy Bar Harbor and Acadia NP has to offer. But it’s so much more - laid back, tranquil and beautiful. Our Foggy Stay in Maine

This quaint little cottage was a wonderful home away from home during our foggy week in Maine. It is located on the quieter side of Mount Desert Island but was centrally located for either side of the island. It is deceivingly roomy for two and is equipped for a nice breakfast or dinner when we felt like staying in after a long day hiking. Our host, Marilee, was readily available for advice or anything we needed. I would definitely stay there again.

The best yet

Perfectly equipped, centrally located, cozy, comfy. Pleasant helpful owners. Couldn't ask for more and the location is perfect. Oh, and there were almost daily visits by deer, and on our last day, turkey. We plan to stay there again

Cozy Cottage

Cozy cottage on the quiet side. Minutes from Acadia National Park. Cottage has everything you need to prepare meals and great Wi-Fi. We advise you to have dinner reservations due to employment shortage, otherwise you will not get in. Lovely grounds with visiting deer in the evenings. You will not be disappointed, we look forward to our next visit.

Quiet and serene accommodations!

The accommodations are tastefully decorated, extremely clean and comfortable as well as welcoming. Communication was excellent, check in was super easy and the location is perfect for exploring the island. The cottage is located in a very quiet and peaceful neighborhood which lends itself well to total relaxation. We will be back!

Hawthorne Cottage is tastefully appointed. It was just perfect for our week long trip to Mount Desert Island. Somesville is one of the prettier towns on the island and Southwest Harbor is only 6 miles away.

perfect place and location

This was our third October trip to Acadia and Somesville and the cottage were just perfect for my husband and me. The location is the best for quick and easy access to all the trails on both sides of the island. The cottage is very quiet, safe, clean, well equipped ( we cooked our own meals ) and perfectly laid out. Also we were surprised to find it to be much more spacious than we expected from the pictures. We would happily come back here anytime. The only thing to mention is the shower, like others have said, is indeed small and the water pressure was bit low at times, so if that is an issue for someone it is good to know. However, it was perfectly sufficient for us and therefore not much of an issue at all!

Perfect Getaway

My husband and I rented this perfect cabin for a weeklong getaway to visit Acadia National Park. The cabin was located off the beaten path and away from the hustle of downtown Bar Harbor, which we loved. The Park and Bar Harbor were a short drive from the cabin, so we didn't waste a lot of time driving. The check-in and check-out processes were seamless and quick. If we were to ever visit the area again, we wouldn't hesitate staying at this lovely cabin. Side note: Eat-A-Pita Cafe is wonderful. They have a romantic outdoor patio and the staff and food were amazing.

Ken and I are retired art teacher and theater costume designer. We have owned Hawthorn Cottage since 1980, taking over from Chauncey Somes, whose ancestors settled the island. We have especially enjoyed sharing our love of Mount Desert Island and Acadia with our guests all these years. We hope you will join our large number of returning guests in savoring the best of Maine.
