Ashes to Ashes

The Gafford House is a wonderful place for a large group vacation. The view is magnificent and we saw several bald eagles and a golden eagle
don’t forget your binoculars. There is a large bird feeder on the deck to enjoy the local birds
so bring some bird seed. The kitchen is equipped with more than you could imagine needing to make a gourmet meal and we made several. There is a Webber BBQ for grilling. Games galore and puzzles. The tub in the master suite is amazing. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for relaxing, enjoyable, memory making vacation.

Gafford Guest House

This was a fabulous house for the 4 adult couples who stayed. Well stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, excellent views. The antique books were amazing and the games a lot of fun. Only improvements would be more wash cloths, upgrade the towels, a propane grill.

Even prettier than the pictures

This has the best location with a gorgeous view. The house was extra clean and there were no broken appliances and no problems with water pressure like I read in previous reviews. When we accidentally left something behind, they quickly were able to find it and send it back to us. It was a great experience. If we come back to orcas in the future, we would definitely rent the same place.

Week stay in Eastsound

Perfect house for two families- all the bedrooms were a great size and had lots of storage. The house had the most well stocked kitchen I have ever rented. It was great. We cooked at home a lot and always had whatever tool we needed. The deck is huge and the view is phenomenal. It was large, well kept and I’d definitely stay here again if back on Orcas. About a 7 minute drive to Eastsound. Very private and hidden. It was perfect!

A Beautiful Home

The view is fabulous, the home spacious and the location perfect. But, surprisingly some of the equipment in the kitchen is not top quality, a real disconnect with the home itself. Additionally, the water pressure in the master shower is exceptionally low. Nevertheless, overall we really enjoyed out stay and the issues mentioned are only a minor inconvenience

Lovely view, a couple of issues

This place is in a great spot and the view is incredible. However, the house and furniture are a bit tired. The washer, dryer and dishwasher were all broken, the dishes were dirty, the outside furniture was ripped, the dining room chairs were broken and there were some stains on the bedding and couches. We also found some surprise kitchen trash that wasn’t ours. For the price, we expected a little higher quality accommodations. The place has so much potential, just needs a facelift.

Missing amenities

The house and location was great. Close to town, and very private. The house however lacked many basic amenities, that you should find in a rental of this price and caliber. All the beds except one were terrible! Sagging into the middle and very uncomfortable. The plumbing was also an issue. Upon check in there was no hot water, heater was turned off. The entire stay we had no water pressure (40min to fill the bath) and keeping the shower on was difficult. The master bath sink didn’t drain, no plug in one of the tubs, and the toilets ran constantly. The listing should show that there is no soap supplied for the showers or bath, no shampoo , one hairdryer for 8 people, and limited toilet paper. We had a fun weekend being on Orcas but for the money I think we could have found something better.

Feelings Mixed

This property was a mixed bag for us. Pros: amazing deck with a stunning view and beautiful sunsets. All four bathrooms were very nice. It’s location to both Cascade Lake and Eastsound were extremely convenient. Cons: we had trouble getting in. We found the lockbox on the rt hand side as directed and it wouldn’t open. We called vacasa and waited on hold for 20 min. No one ever answered but in the ensuing chaos of my husband chasing our three year old around the property, my husband found a SECOND lockbox that did work with the code. I mean... maybe mention that in the instruction email? Later, we tried to use the WiFi and the network didn’t exist. We tried calling the local property manager listed in the book at the rental. She didn’t answer and has never returned our call. A few hours later, we found a card in the corner stating a different network than was listed in Vacasa’s vacation details. That worked. In addition to just an annoying check-in situation, there were things about the house that felt cheap for the price we paid for this rental. The TP provided was the kind that is thin and rough (cheap), all beds were full beds including the master. The master is a sleigh bed that is tiny and short. Since it’s a sleigh bed my husband couldn’t straighten his legs (he’s only 6 foot). The chairs on the beautiful deck were uncomfortable and the kitchen felt super aged. The dishwasher falls open and the appliances feel ancient. The gorgeous bathtub has no grip on the bottom so my son was slipping everywhere. The overall effect was that although the house is expensive and gorgeous, it was like death by a million paper cuts. For this price, the master should have a king, the guest rooms should have queens. The deck should have comfortable chairs and the kitchen shouldn’t feel like a garage sale of old gadgets. All that being said- gorgeous view and orcas is of course a wonderful place to visit. We’ve had problems with vacasa in the past. We rented with them a few weeks ago and received a text 10 minutes before arrival notifying us there would be no stove. No sorry, discount or attempt to have someone come fix it. Combined we’ve learned that we will return to the San Juan Islands, but we will not rent from Vacasa again.

A beautiful home with tons of room and a deck with a view that we didn’t want to leave. This is a great house for having a magical Orcas Island experience. The kitchen is very well stocked. We were able to make some meals and had everything we needed. Beds were super comfy.

Even better than pictured. So comfortable and fun! We loved playing the piano, great game selection, and lots of time on the deck listening to birds and watching boats and aircraft travel Eastsound. The sunsets are not to be missed. It was a wonderful stay!

Beautiful home, great for a group

Sweet Spot

Wonderful Family Vacation Home

Everything is very clean and comfy, four kids all had rooms to themselves, and lots of bathrooms makes for a very relaxing vacation for two families. We are already hoping to be back!!

The home is absolutely spectacular, it was everything and more than what was shown in the pictures. It was very clean; the kitchen is very well stocked and the bathroom amenities including the black facial wash clothes didn't go un-noticed. The back deck was lovely for viewing the spectacular views.

Siblings Reunion

The house was charming in design and well constructed. Loved the wrap around porch and views of the sunsets over the bay. Everyone was very happy with their beds and bathrooms. Kitchen had all the necessary appliances. Very nice place!

Lovely Orcas View Home

Beautiful traditional home for family get-togethers near Eastsound. The furnishings and decor are lovely and make the generously sized rooms feel warm and cozy. For our group of nine, there was plenty of comfortable seating indoors and outside for eating and lounging. The deck is fantastic and we loved the views and just hanging out there. Also, the kids really enjoyed the games. It's a great house for mixed ages. The kitchen is also terrific - spacious and well-provisioned.
