Family Vacation

Stayed for a week for a family vacation. Had a great time and the accommodations were great. Walk to lake was a little difficult but everyone managed and really enjoyed spending the week there. Would definitely recommend.

Very Nice Lakefront Property

Everything was very nice about the property and exactly as described. It was spacious with plenty of room for us to hangout together or separately if we chose. My only complaints were regarding the kitchen. The floor was not as clean as it should’ve been upon our arrival. Also, we had to contend with ants until I used salt as a deterrent that kept them off the kitchen counter for the duration of our stay.

Amazing Family Weekend

Leadership Retreat in Style

We were a group of 7 women on the leadership team of a homeschool co-op meeting for our annual spring planning retreat. This home allowed us to spread out comfortably through all of the bedrooms, cook meals with ease, eat those meals inside or out on the deck, have meetings, play games, do crafts, and have a wonderful time together! Thank you for providing such a well-stocked clean home for our enjoyment. There was also plenty of parking for everyone next to the house and up the hill of a driveway to the parking pad. Would definitely recommend for a group!

The house was perfect for a big group. We had a great weekend!

The house was big and inviting. The hot tub was clean and relaxing. There was plenty of room inside for the number of people the house slept. The only downside was the walk to the dock but we made the best of it and took everything down with us for the day so we didn't have to walk up and down so much.

Perfect place!

I really enjoyed this place with my family. We are 16 people, including teenagers, seniors and children. This place is perfect for all ages. The kitchen is good, all the rooms are comfortable and the hot tub is the best part of this place. I read people talking about the access ramp to the cars, but I didn't think it was bad. We were in 4 cars and everything went super well. Mike gave a lot of tips on how to rent a boat and it was great to do that. I plan to go to this house again soon.

Great place

Amazing waterfront property. Great house and location. Only one complaint. There needs to be steps installed on the walkway to the dock. The hills is a huge angle and the owner needs to finish the steps they. We wouldnt rent here again unless stairs were installed. Can be dangerous.

Great house just a few things to be aware of

Great house and set up for a family/friends vacation. A few things to be aware of: steps can be dangerous (stones that aren’t physically attached to the ground so be very cautious when walking to the water). There is no boathouse and it is just a floating dock. If you are bringing multiple boats, you can make it work but it is less than ideal. Hot tub and outdoor space at the house we’re our favorite hangouts.

Great house but walk to dock tough

The house was very clean and well furnished. Our only complaint about the house was the walk to the dock/lake area. If you have anyone in your group with limited mobility they will not be able to walk down to enjoy the lake because of the distance and grade. I think this should have been called out in the listing. All in all we had a great time and made the best of it. Thank you!

Wanted to get five stars poor communication

The house Sleeps 14 not 16. One of our children had to sleep on an air mattress. One of our college student children left a bag of laundry at the house by accident and we left three voice messages with the pm, trying to get it recovered right after we left, and nobody ever called us back. The house is beautiful clean in a great location other than those things I would recommend.

Perfect Family vacation

We had a great family vacation. All of my family loved the house, we had plenty of room, we had 14 of us. This was our first family vacation with all of us together, with my sons now having their own family and they were all sad to leave and can't wait to do it again next year. The house was nice and clean and very organized. The maintenance man was so friendly and very nice. If there was any downfalls it would be not enough silverware and a big sectional couch would have been nice so we could sit comfortable watching a movie( but that is just little stuff). We would still go back there next year again, but you need to put a ski lift in from the dock to the fire pit..LOL...that was a killer or it just could have been that we all are way out of shape..LOL. Thank you so, so much for our fantastic family vacation and all of the memories we created. I would highly recommend your place to anyone. Once again we can not thank you enough for letting us vacation in your home.

Property review

The Kitchen stove top was out of order. No notification given prior to arrival. This was a big deal since we arrived with a lot of food for Thanksgiving meal that required adequate stove tops to prepare. Two inadequate dual hot plates were sitting in the kitchen upon arrival with a "sorry" notation. Not enough coffee cups to satisfy a group of 11. No hand mixer available. Not enough seating in the "dining area" for a group of 11. Dishwasher bottom rack was off track. The property was fine with the exception of the kitchen, which did not meet our expectations.

We enjoyed the peaceful cove and especially the hot tub and fire pit. The beds were super comfy and the kitchen had good cooking space. For a group of 12, we were short one coffee cup, but other than that the dishes/utensils were ample and small appliances were very helpful.We truly appreciated the gas fireplaces as the weather was quite cool and we were still able to be outside to drink our coffee and enjoy the surrounding area.

We had the most relaxing time at the property. It was right on the lake, so we enjoyed being able to go at our leisure. A paddle board and a kayak were available for our use, so we enjoyed paddling around, curling up by the fire pit, and relaxing in the hot tub. Very quiet, relaxing atmosphere. We definitely hope to return!

Had an amazing time at this property. Probably the best pool table in a rental I've ever seen. There are a lot of steps to get from the house to the dock but I think that's generally going to be the same with almost all of the properties in the area.

5 star!First time visit to Smith Mountain Lake and plan to return!House was clean and adequate space for family of 12. Kiddo's enjoyed bunk bedroom and game room. Adults especially like sitting on covered porch facing the lake. Kitchen well equipped and owner very responsive, even delivered a blender on our request! Quiet cove perfect for swimming and for docking our pontoon boat. Although there were many steep steps to lake and steep driveway down to house, we still enjoyed the house and surrounding area. Would consider returning again next year!

Plenty of Room for All

We loved the open concept kitchen, dining table, and family room. We were all together when we were inside. We also played games in the evening on the deck off the main floor. We were happy to have plenty of chairs and invited friends from a couple coves down to play "Mind the Gap" in our generational teams. I was glad I didn't bring my elderly mother this year because she could not have navigated the steps. For the rest of us, our legs are stronger!

Perfect family get away

We enjoyed our time here. Plenty of space, loads of dishes and cookware which is not always the case at many places. We enjoyed the pool table and hot tub along with spending a majority of our time on the covered porch and the dock. The driveway is steep and there are 96 steeps to the dock. So we got plenty of exercise.

Can’t ask for a better stay. We have stayed at two of GateWays properties within a month on purpose. They’re built by someone that understand lake life. Relaxed and luxury for a vacation. Special owners to understand the dynamics of a quiet cove.
