Absolutely Disappointing Stay – Avoid This Unit!
We recently stayed at a unit in The Turquoise rented through Vacasa Rentals, and it was one of the worst vacation rental experiences we’ve ever had.
From the moment we walked in, we were hit with a strong musty odor. The unit was poorly maintained—many lights were out, remotes had no working batteries, and only one TV functioned for the first day. Tv boxes and cords hanging from every tv when we arrived. It appeared like a college dorm room.. not luxury accommodation. Despite multiple calls to Vacasa, it took three full days to get the TVs working properly. That alone was frustrating, but unfortunately, the problems didn’t stop there.
The master bathroom shower was shocking—cracked and broken tiles, and visible black mold growing around the showerhead. For a luxury property, this was completely unacceptable and a potential health hazard.
The washer leaked water all over the floor, and the dryer took three full cycles to dry even a small load. When we arrived, sand was in the pantry, which we ended up having to clean ourselves. It’s clear the unit had not been properly prepped or inspected before our arrival.
The only redeeming quality was the large couch, which was comfortable. Everything else—from the cheap, creaky furniture to the bargain-bin pillows and uncomfortable, noisy beds—was subpar. Every bedroom required us to plug in lamps manually because none of the light switches worked with the fixtures. That kind of setup might be fine in a budget motel—not in a high-priced beachfront rental.
We’ve stayed at The Turquoise before and had wonderful experiences, which made this stay even more disappointing. We paid premium rates for a holiday weekend, expecting a clean, well-maintained, and relaxing unit. Instead, we spent our time on the phone with customer service, sending pictures of issues, and were never once offered any compensation for the numerous problems we faced.
Vacasa should be ashamed to list this unit in its current condition. At this price point, guests should not have to “make do” with broken appliances, dirty conditions, and neglected maintenance. This unit was a complete letdown, and I would never rent through Vacasa again if this is the standard they consider acceptable.
