Cozy Cabin in Mt Mitchell Lands with New Hot Tub! - Open for 2025

As Western NC continues to recover from the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, we are open for booking now and will begin hosting on April 4th. Our home is in great shape and remains unchanged through all WNC damage. We are currently unsure about the accessibility/playability of the golf course in 2025 as it is currently closed and under repair. We look forward to hosting you in 2025!

Rising Sun is a premier vacation property in Mt. Mitchell Lands, a golf course community. This 10-acre wooded property is 3,200 feet in elevation, with breathtaking views right from the covered deck. Looking straight out, the 40 mile view to the North, is Roan Mountain in Tennessee. To the left, is the Black Mountain Range, including Mt Mitchell, the largest peak east of the Mississippi, standing 6,684 feet in elevation. Just 2 hours from Charlotte, 1 hour from Asheville and 10 minutes away from the Blue Ridge Parkway, this home is very accessible. In no time you will be nestled in Pisgah Forrest with lots of privacy. In the Summer this home provides a wonderful retreat from the heat, in the Fall a majestic display of foliage, in the Winter a brisk clear night sky and in the Spring the most glorious display of flowers and luscious greenery.

The views from the home are breathtaking. The covered patio is complete with comfortable seating and dining accommodations. The new hot tub has a perfect view of the morning sunrise and the starry night. We drain the water after every guest and refill it with hot water so it is ready for your arrival. If for some reason the hot tub is not running during your stay, a credit of $15 per day will be given. In many years we have only had this happen 3 times, but want to ensure our guests are informed!

The main floors two master suites boast high-end bedding for a restful sleep as the river sounds lull you to sleep. The lower level is completely remodeled and contains a newly remodeled queen bedroom. There is also a full bath, laundry facilities and TV room on the lower level.

The house is equipped with high-speed internet that can support simultaneous multiple-user video conferencing.

The kitchen is fully equipped for the chefs, stocked with high quality appliances and cookware including cephalon pots and pans, Cuisinart toaster oven/air fryer, 13 cup food processor, instant pot, electric mixer, crockpot, baking pans, waffle iron, muffin tins and more.

The lower level can accommodate the entire family with 4 bunks and pull out sofa. There are board games and high tech televisions to entertain the young and old alike.

Our property offers access to a variety of outdoor activities and attractions. Trails abound in the neighborhood and nearby Black Mountain Campground, just a mile away off South Toe River Road. Maps and brochures are provided in the Rising Sun Activities Guide at the house. Explore scenic trails along the river or in the Pisgah National Forest, with options for all levels of hikers. Hemlock State Park, just north of the property, is a great spot for tubing, picnicking, and swimming for a $5 car entry fee. Nearby swimming holes are also highlighted in the guide.

A must-visit is Mount Mitchell State Park, a 40-minute drive away, featuring breathtaking views from the observation deck and trails. The park offers cooler temperatures, so plan accordingly. Other nearby waterfalls include Crabtree Falls, Grassy Creek Falls, and Roaring Fork Falls off Route 80.

The Orchard at Altapass is another highlight, offering live bluegrass music on weekends, historic hayrides, apple picking (July–October), and more. Unique shopping opportunities include local arts and crafts showcased in the Toe River Arts Studio Tour and The Soap Shed in Spruce Pine, which features over 100 soap varieties and live demonstrations. Little Switzerland also has shops, a restaurant, and ice cream.

For more adventures, the guide covers gem mining, horseback riding, rafting, tubing, and even the local Movie Theatre, all within 20–30 minutes.

Pets are allowed on an exception basis. A meticulously clean property is of top importance to us. We will ask about the size, breed, and temperament of your pet(s). By accepting the pet fee, you commit to doing your very best to protect the furniture and all aspects of the home and leave the property absent of any pet ware.
