Beautiful relaxing home with a gorgeous yard. Has everything you could need or want for kitchen, bathroom and laundry supplies. The owners were very responsive and genuinely kind. So grateful for the feeling of comfort that embraced us the minute we drove through the gate!

Great stay!

The house was very clean and the kitchen very well appointed. It worked very well for two adults and our three kids. 45 minutes to Volcano National Park. Found some great food at the Puna Kai Shopping Center which was not far away. Thanks!

House in Paradise

We had a wonderful visit in the Ohia House. The house has everything you need and more. We actually spent most of our time just lounging around the house and enjoying the grounds. They have everything you need for a day at the beach including coolers, towels, beach chairs, snorkeling gear, and beach toys. Hosts were every responsive to our questions. We would definitely stay here again.

A Tropical Wonder Home in Big Island

We were very pleasantly surprised when we stepped into this wonderful home even though much has been said on the website and reviews by others. Plenty of space for our group of eight, very high quality amenities, bright and warm decors, plus a very thoughtful note from the manager, and a few Hawaiian breakfast items to get the next day started right away if you don't have a chance to do grocery shopping. The owners are very helpful as well in answering questions before our arrival and arranging the bedroom setups. The location is easily reachable to nearby attractions and sits in a very nice and quiet neighborhood. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it strongly.

Wonderful!

Our group included 6 adults so we rented both units. There was plenty of space for everyone. The beds, including the two pull out sofas were very comfortable. The showers were roomy and had good water pressure and enough hot water for everyone. The large thick towels were a bonus. We made most meals at home. The kitchen was spacious and had everything we needed. The appliances in the main house (and outdoor grill) are above average and worked wonderfully. Our favorite part was the outdoor entertainment area. We spent A LOT of time gathered there socializing. All of the furniture was comfy. Internet was functional and there were lots of TV channels. The location is central enough to Volcano and Hilo, but secluded enough to get away from it all. The property owners were always quick to respond. Had a wonderful experience.

Stop Looking! Luxury home in amazing location--The BEST of the Big Island

My spouse and I have come to the Big Island over the last 13 years. We have stayed for long periods of time (up to 7 months) and we have finally found the place we want to come back to again and again. Aki and Laura's home is just that--a home (and a luxury one to boot). Like most people I combed through VRBO adds for many months trying to find the perfect place. This trip was 5 weeks and there were a number of things I wanted in a rental. This house went beyond ANY of my expectations. 1. Space--We wanted a space that felt seamless to the outdoors and provided some amount of covered patio space in case of rain (which mainly happens at night in this area). We have two young children (1 and 5 years old) and we wanted an outdoor space that was suitable AND safe (so no cliffs, high decks, etc.). This is often hard to find. 2. Kids--so I mentioned them earlier but travel is different with toddlers. This house was one of the most kid-friendly spaces I have ever stayed. Aki and Laura provided everything-- children's dishes, sippy cups, an inflatable duck pool, toys, crib, booster, books--We had to bring none of these things! There were also outdoor toys and plenty of patio space to enjoy. (FYI--this space is great sans kids as well) 3. Location. If you want a quiet rainforest on a small country road in Hawaii with the sounds of tree frogs and the occasional morning rooster--then this is your place! The kids loved walking down the dirt roads looking at banana trees or enjoying the fruit trees in the house's back yard. As I was here for research, location mattered to me. I wanted a place that would be comfortable to just "be" for writing AND one that was central to Hilo, Pahoa, Volcano Village, etc. Again, after many years of visiting, we would choose this location again in a heart beat. I will take a group back here next summer and of all the places on the East side, I can't imagine a better place than HPP. 4. Other amazing things to mention: This is a luxury home with soft linens, towels, a gourmet kitchen (everything we needed for a month's worth of cooking). The GIANT TV has Hulu and Netflix so we had some fun movie nights on the couch. The closet and master bathroom are both HUGE with plenty of drawers and there are two beautiful indoor showers. Overall, if you are looking to be wowed, want to pinch yourself because you are in paradise, then spend some time at Aki and Laura's home---you will not be disappointed.

Relaxing and Beautiful....Home Away from Home

I just came back from my 3rd visit to Hawaii, first visit to Hilo and the Big Island. Myself, my husband, our 3 children (ages 13, 3 & 1), as well as my mother and grandmother stayed for 1 week from July 22nd - July 29th and we had a wonderful vacation. If you are coming to the island, expecting the hustle and bustle of Honolulu, then you have come to the wrong place. But, if you are seeking rest, relaxation and a real home away from your home, this is the place for you. We rented the house and the Ohana. My mother and my 13 year old daughter stayed in the Ohana. Myself and my husband took the master. My grandmother had her own room, and my 2 little ones shared a room. There was plenty of space for everyone to retreat to their own areas, when they were ready, yet there was so much space for us to come together as a family. Each morning, we would drink coffee out on the lanai and look at the beautiful trees out back. Walk all the way out in the yard, and you will find orange trees and lime trees. Keep on looking and you will find avocado and starfruit. It was fun to walk around the property looking at all of the tropical fruits and vegetation. I got took some really beautiful photos out there too! We cooked something in the amazing kitchen almost every day. Make sure to open all of the drawers in the kitchen before heading to the store. You will find all the cooking and baking supplies you will ever need, appliances plus more. Open the drawer in the family room area, and you will find decks of cards and family board games. Go back in the laundry room and turn around- you will find a cooler, beach bags & towels, boogie boards and swim equipment. That laundry room even had laundry detergent, Oxiclean and some Resolve stain remover. I was really pleased with the quality of the sheets, and surprised at how cool and comfortable the house was, despite the fact that there is no air conditioning. All of the finishes were high end, from the main sink and garden sinks in the kitchen, the pull out drawers in the kitchen, the master bathroom's en suite who's shower could hold at least six people, and the fact that the Master took up the entire right "wing" of the home. As you can see, our family had a phenomenal time. We travel a lot. We have stay in a variety of places across the world from Atlanta, Georgia to Stuttgart, Germany, from the Marriot to the Ritz, none will compare the home away from home that we found in the little city of Hilo:-)

I would highly recommend this place! This was a move for us, not a vacation, so, like most moves, it was quite stressful but Laura was always kind & patient & understanding of our situation. Def made things SO much easier. And her home was so nice! And comfortable & it had absolutely everything you could want or need & more. Thank you so much!!!

The house itself is amazing. The pictures don’t do the house justice. We really enjoyed talking with the groundskeeper. He mentioned some people just chose to stay at the house for their whole visit and we can see why.

The house and yard were beautiful. The accommodations were very well stocked with everything you might need, from shampoo to snorkel gear. Very relaxing! We even enjoyed the coqui frogs.

Private Oasis

This property is stunning!! The property manager, Royall, was friendly and very informative. They were kind enough to put up a Christmas tree for us, as we were there over Christmas, and my daughters greatly appreciated that. The extras included in the kitchen...spices, oils, etc....were a unexpected surprise. Would definitely stay here again. Most amazing property!!!

Exceeded our expectations!

This was kind of a working vacation for us as our impetuous for our visit to Hawaii was to help out a lava victim that had moved to the neighborhood. Coming to this home after a hard day of painting was such a joy... All of the rooms are large and comfortably furnished. I have to admit, though, that we spent a large amount of our free time out on the massive lanai! The gardens are immaculate and we were there when the orange gardenias were in full bloom so the air was heady with their sweet aroma. Coming from the mainland, I had never tasted a tree ripened star fruit and changed my opinion of them completely after tasting on from the garden. We dded several types of citrus to our smoothies every morning from the trees out back...yum! We had no problems finding everything needed to cook our meals in the well stocked kitchen. The beds were pretty good and there are extra fans in addition to the overhead fans to keep you cool. (We happened to be there when it was warmer and more humid than usual.). I only wished that I had contacted the owners to find out how to open the high up clerestory windows! This development can have a wide variety of home buildings...this particular neighborhood is quite nice and very quiet.. Although we were not here as tourists, we did have time to see a few sights and found the location to be nicely centered for the Hilo side of the Island attractions. I would not hesitate to recommend a stay here...it will not disappoint!.

Restful Retreat

We really enjoyed our stay! We have stayed in ohana in the past & really enjoyed it. So wanted to try out the main house with a couple friends. Home is very comfortable. Luxury sheets made me feel like I was sleeping at a luxury hotel. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us! Look forward to staying again soon!

Very Modern and Clean

This place was great! The kitchen was well stocked with pans, great stove, fridge, etc - just great - bathrooms also very good, clean and well functionting, bedrooms just lovely, and lots of room in the living room for hanging out, etc. I wish I could live here all year. Most excellent home!

Large Comfortable Home on a Huge Lot in a Suburb of Hilo

We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely spacious home in a Hilo suburb. It is about 30 minutes outside central Hilo, so this house is not for people who want to be close to shops and restaurants. There are many major chain stores within a half hour drive and some smaller local stores 15-20 min away. If you stock up on groceries and enjoy cooking, this is the rental for you. They had more spices than we have at home and every cooking utensil you could ask for. We bought steaks and boneless chicken breasts and grilled on the BBQ outside and it was divine. This home is also closer to Volcano National Park than anywhere in Hilo, so if you plan to go there, this home will be convenient. Its also really close to the area where the lava flows into the ocean if you are interested in that hike. We explored Hilo, Volcano National Park, Waimea, Mauna Kea, and Waipio Valley during our stay, so we were pretty active. The house itself is very spacious and could easily hold 6 people. The yard is huge--my son played soccer with my husband and the kids played with a frisbee. At night, the only thing I didn't like was the wildlife noise. Frogs, crickets, and birds made quite a ruckus. But nothing that my earplugs wouldn't block out. There were coolers available for day trips, a fridge stocked with condiments, a large washer dryer, lots of towels, and fans in every room which were needed since there's no AC. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. Thanks so much!

Almost perfect

Beautiful and comfortable and spacious with smiling, helpful staff. A perfect place for our family 100th birthday gathering of 10. The open floor plan, the big lanai, and spacious grounds accommodated both a wheelchair and a walker. The amply furnished kitchen and many places to sit and gather made for a congenial afternoon. The birthday was the reason for the trip to Hawaii and the house helped to make it an unforgettable success. We slept 7 adults there and the almost perfect part comes from one bed (there are 4 more that are very nice) that is an airbed that loses air during the night so we used the couch instead. The neighbor and caretaker was instantly there to troubleshoot and he - and even his wife - went beyond expectation to make us happy. I recommend this property most enthusiastically as long as you don't need or don''t mind the soft to softer sleeping surface of the airbed. The rest of the house is furnished amply and comfortably and stylishly, and even the lanai is big enough and had enough furniture to seat all 10 of us without crowding. But for that little problem of the bed, this well designed modern house and beautiful grounds served our needs most perfectly. I've already recommended it to friends.

Great place for big family, secluded, central and well equipped

This house is amazing, is very central to Hilo and the volcanoes national park. The house is Art Deco, ventilated and very well equipped. It was really nice to be able to cook with proper utensil as well as grill. We had a great time, and the owners and Skip were very responsive. We definitely will like to come back to this house!!
