Rumbling Bald Mountain is a beautiful resort! The house we stayed at was very nice, quiet, peaceful, and overlooked the lake. Our family had a very nice time!

The Perfect Place

We enjoyed a perfect Memorial Day weekend. House was in a great location and the views day and night were just beautiful. The house is spacious, the kitchen has everything we needed and very clean. We will be back!

Great family spot

My wife and I took our four kids, ages 6, 8, 10 & 12 for Independence Day Weekend. We’ve stayed in Rumbling Bald the last five years and this house did not disappoint. Plenty of Interior space and lake access with a dock which is great for kids. We will stay here again.

Bald Mtn Lake stay

The house was as described, well cared for and well equipped. The lake is beautiful. Small enough to ensure that there is no motor noise, but large enough to have fun kayaking, paddle boarding fishing and swimming. The access to Rumbling Bald community amenities, with easy access to Lake Lure, golf and dining is a huge asset. Lots of steps, so not good for the infirm, but great for everyone else.

Fabulous!

We LOVED our time at Mixon's Lake Retreat! I loved that it had three stories so the families could each have their own space. Also, we were pleasantly surprised to find a third bathroom on the bottom floor! The view was fabulous, the canoe was so much fun and we loved it so much my husband and I are now looking to retire there! Thank you so much for everything!

Nice place

We had a good time and the house was nice. It had everything we needed for a short stay. We enjoyed the location and view of the lake, as well as being close to the golf course and the small restaurant nearby. The WiFi was a bit erratic, we were unable to stream our movies on Amazon, Netflix and Hulu. That was frustrating we do like our movies in the evening, the dvds and vhs tapes that were there were a good alternative. Overall a nice place.

Peaceful, quiet lake retreat

This house has beautiful views, a small private dock, and lots of space. Access to Rumbling Bald was easy, and we enjoyed the beach and the spa. Despite being on a resort property, the house is private and the location on Bald Mountain Lake was very quiet, with no motorized vehicles at all on the water. We befriended a family of teenage ducklings, and we were able to rent SUPs from a local business that delivered and picked them up. The house has well functioning appliances and a fully equipped kitchen. The decks are both beautiful and could benefit from some furniture upgrades...there is a great dining set, but no comfy chairs or lounges for relaxing in those great settings. We would definitely come back!

Mixons Lake Retreat

The location proved ideal for our group: right on a quiet little lake, beautiful setting, and the house was quite accommodating. The children loved the air hockey and we all took advantage of the resort's amenities while preferring the quiet of the house. There were good hikes nearby and we used our kayaks every day. The biggest problem was management of garbage. In ground barrels were useless despite spray and advice. Bears could get at anything we didn't take to the dumpsters at the resort. While entertaining to see the bears, garbage management should be improved for the comfort of residents and to not actually encourage bears on the premises!

Enjoyable week for family of 4 - with a few house issues

The Mixon house is in a beautiful location with lots of fun and relaxation to offer. Despite being very dated, the house is clean and has a great layout. The priority updates needed are replacing the extremely rusted grill and proper bear proof trash receptacles. The grill has no drip pan or ignition button. We had to manually light the grill and we had several flare up while using it. The grill is not safe and should have been replaced. The trash receptacles have no locks and the spray bottle and cinder block did not deter the bear who ripped through our trash both times we put the trash out. It was exciting to see the bear but allowing bears to access fo trash is dangerous to families, bears, other wildlife and the environment. Please replace. The spray bottle that was left for us to use on our trash was labeled as Clorox and the information sheet in the binder said it was ammonia. Whatever is was does not work. There were several phone number in the binder that are incorrect or outdated. I left a list on the evaluation sheet in the binder. I also recommend additional lake floats (kayak, paddle board, rafts) so the entire family can enjoy the lake together. And lastly, Replace the dull knives in the kitchen with sharp knives.

Such a lovely retreat

This is a great property located within the gates of Fumbling Bald. My family has had a house in RBR for many years. This year we decided to spend NYE at Lake Lure but another family member was using our house. We absolutely LOVED Mixon's Retreat and will be back again!!!! We can't wait to stay during the warmer months.
