The reviews are all good, so we expected a nice place. But it was even nicer in person, with way more interior square footage than you can tell from the pictures (or even from the front of the house when you arrive). Spacious and comfortable.
The design is a stylish, breezy mashup of the 1960s Leisurama prefab architecture (repainted bright white) with modern Ikea furnishings (cabinets, faucets and sinks, furniture, rugs, etc). Multiple new skylights really open up the place, giving it a sunny, happy feeling. It looks like something out of a home decorating magazine. Fantastic natural light for pictures too.
Like other reviewers have said, pretty much everything you need is at the house: laundry, linens and towels, vacuum, iron, tons of kitchen utensils, plates, glasses and even a drawer filled with children's cups, plates, utensils and straws.
Speaking of children, we were there because my wife and children were in a Montauk wedding, and we brought the in-laws to help watch the kids. The place easily fit all six of us (the father-in-law and I are big dudes). We never felt cramped, thanks to the high ceilings and general open feel of the place.
A convenient expandable wall divider for the room with the futon created a perfect kids sleeping area. And there were plenty of crayons, paper and toys to keep the little ones (both under age 4) occupied. I also found a ton of beach gear and toys in the outdoor storage shed under the roof deck stairs, so Dane clearly is a pro at having this place ready for summer fun.
The wraparound interior yard is surprisingly decent-sized too, especially when you go up on the double roof deck and realize how many other houses are around. There's plenty of privacy thanks to tall plants and although we were there in the fall offseason, it was obvious the place is fantastic for a summer rental (it's literally across the street from the beach).
Dane's instruction sheet was really helpful and you can't beat how close the house is to everything: the beach, the shore attractions and even downtown Montauk is just a couple of minutes away.
I'll end with this: my wife was really pleased with the place and said she'd love to come back. Trust me, that's the ultimate praise.
Thanks Dane!
