  • A fantastic experience in a wonderful house.

"I celebrated my 78th birthday in this wonderful Balboa cottage, and it exceeded my expectations. My girlhood best friend joined me from Dallas to spend a week in a place we have been visiting since we were children. It is wonderful the island has retained its charm. And despite many of the original cottages being replaced by multi-storied luxury homes, 216 Onyx has the flavor of old Balboa Island. From the front the quaint cottage looks deceptively small, but the very attractive interior feels spacious, clean, new and very comfortable. The master bedroom is very large and the kitchen and patio particularly lovely. The location is fantastic, steps from Marine Avenue, the still delightful main street, and a short walk from either the north or south bay. We particularly enjoyed the Fun Zone 1-1/2 tour of the bay which we reached on that wonderful little ferry. It was great to have a garage though everything was in easy walking distance. Absolutely everything was provided in generous amounts. Every step in renting the cottage Kari was incredibly helpful, even encouraging the inclusion of my Standard Poodle who loved the flower bedecked front yard. Kari makes you feel as if you are an old friend invited to stay in a place she has so lovingly provided. Every question was answered promptly and thoroughly. We emailed and chatted like old friends on the phone. My deposit was returned promptly. I can highly recommend 216 Onyx!"

  • Nice Place to spend a week.

"Stayed here with two adults and two kids. Bottom unit was perfect size with a plenty of room if any friends visit for the day. Very nice sized patio and within easy walking distance to the sand and walk. Two short blocks to the ferry and about a five-ten minute walk to the main street for the ever important Balboa Bars. Unit has super large closets in each bedroom (which they don't really tell you about) so you have a place to put all your bags and hang up your clothes. Furniture in unit is very nice and comfortable; owner says they are trying to find time to put a king sized bed into master bedroom but the queen was big enough for us. Definitely look to rent again when Balboa comes up on our destination list again."

  • Just do it!

"A wonderful property, close to the beach and the ferry to Newport. Everything is a five minute walk. The property is well maintained, clean, and quite spacious. Bill and Robin were great to deal with, easy to communicate with, quick return of security deposit. Looking forward to another stay!"

  • Elegance and Class

"We spent Christmas in this home and can't convey in words the class, elegance and thoughtful detail the owners have in maintaining this Balboa Classic. The owners were immediately available for any questions.... kind, gracious and responsive. There were just the two of us, but the intimacy, fire places, quiet balconies, private patios were thoroughly enjoyed. I lived on the Island, Corona del Mar, and Laguna for 20 years and this is the best place and time I have ever had there! We hope to return to this home each year from the Chaos of Washington DC!"
