  • A fantastic experience in a wonderful house.

"I celebrated my 78th birthday in this wonderful Balboa cottage, and it exceeded my expectations. My girlhood best friend joined me from Dallas to spend a week in a place we have been visiting since we were children. It is wonderful the island has retained its charm. And despite many of the original cottages being replaced by multi-storied luxury homes, 216 Onyx has the flavor of old Balboa Island. From the front the quaint cottage looks deceptively small, but the very attractive interior feels spacious, clean, new and very comfortable. The master bedroom is very large and the kitchen and patio particularly lovely. The location is fantastic, steps from Marine Avenue, the still delightful main street, and a short walk from either the north or south bay. We particularly enjoyed the Fun Zone 1-1/2 tour of the bay which we reached on that wonderful little ferry. It was great to have a garage though everything was in easy walking distance. Absolutely everything was provided in generous amounts. Every step in renting the cottage Kari was incredibly helpful, even encouraging the inclusion of my Standard Poodle who loved the flower bedecked front yard. Kari makes you feel as if you are an old friend invited to stay in a place she has so lovingly provided. Every question was answered promptly and thoroughly. We emailed and chatted like old friends on the phone. My deposit was returned promptly. I can highly recommend 216 Onyx!"

  • Enchanting Home in Perfect Location

"My family of four, including two teenage boys, came to Balboa Island for five nights so we could be close to UC Irvine for my son's Orientation. It was just over a 10 minute drive to the campus and it only took us about 25 minutes to visit friends who live in Laguna Beach. This enchanting home on Balboa island was just around the corner from the main street and we walked around the island for a half hour walk every morning. The views were amazing and the people we encountered were all very friendly, including Jill, the owner who was residing in the upper unit above the garage. She was very helpful telling us where to park when friends came to visit, where to find the grocery store and how to catch the five minute ferry to the Balboa Peninsula. The home was well stocked and very comfortable. We loved opening all the doors and my husband worked at the patio and inside table for a couple hours early every morning. We went on a narrated 90 boat tour around the island one day and our boys parasailed another day. The restaurants in the area were all delicious and the I loved the store in town with local artwork. We would definitely stay here again and will recommend this little gem to friends and family."

  • Spring Vacation with the Family!

"Even though we live 20 minutes from the Island, I thought it would be fun to rent a house on Balboa Island for the family to gather to celebrate Easter and each other! Because it was so close to home, son-in-laws, daughters who were not off for the week were able to join in the fun whether for breakfast, dinner or an afternoon at the Fun Zone. What I thought was going to be a little get-away to have some fun for the grandkids, turned out to be a special family memory. The house is PERFECT in every way indoors and out -- supplies, linen, housewares galore and is beautifully decorated to top it off. And Shari was warm, friendly and accommodating. We are looking forward to going back!"

  • Perfect Location, quaint and kid-friendly

"We had a wonderful time on Balboa Island for Spring Break. The house was just perfect for us. Quaint and cute, with all the amenities you would need. It wasn't some grandeur palace that made me on guard with my 6 and 3 year old. The convenience to the ferry was a huge bonus, it also may have made us spend a few extra $$ on arcade games and rides for our kids : ). The house had everything you needed to enjoy a week away. It was the perfect beach bungalow style home that I remembered as a kid. You can feel the nostalgia inside from the family photos placed around the house. This is a home the Landis family cherishes - and shares with others to make their own wonderful memories. And we did just that...so thank you!"
