This cozy US style bed and breakfast overlooks a working farm; 15,000 orange trees, as well as fields of alfalfa and corn, artichokes and melons. Nestled in the heart of Region V, Zona Frutales, the owner rides in Chilean rodeo, so horses are available for trips into the countryside. Each guest room is equipped with a private bathroom w/ shower and has a patio and pool that overlooks the countryside.

Located a little over an hour’s drive on scenic Route. 5 from Santiago, it’s a quiet getaway - or if you’re up for adventure, a taste of local culture can be arranged; scenic tours, rodeo trips, trail rides, authentic Chilean cooking in a Chilean home, as well as a guide to the best of the nearby Pacific beaches and restaurants.

This Bed & Breakfast is part of a working farm. It's small and ideal for a single traveler, a couple or a couple with small children. The guest room space is augmented by an outdoor veranda and pool that overlooks the rich farm country. Because we're close to Route 5, you can use us a stopover on the trip north to La Serena or Coquimbo - or for longer as a base for exploring this unique region of Chile.

A recent visitor described ChileFarms on his blog - you can read his description at by searching ptatlarge and then choosing 'Travel' from the menu there. There are two articles about ChileFarms on this site.

We are Susaan and Ricardo - one of us speaks English and one speaks Spanish. We enjoy having visitors and will take our cue from you as to how much privacy or socializing you prefer. We're here for 6 months of each year and welcome you to join us for one day or a few. Open November 15 through April 15.

Central Chile Orange Farm lived up to our expectations in every way. The owners, Ricardo and Susaan (yes, it's spelled with two a's) were welcoming and helpful from beginning to end. Their knowledge and suggestions allowed us to get the most from our first visit to central Chile. After days exploring the area, we were eager to return to cool off in the pool and to relax on our private deck. Although Ricardo and Susan had excellent suggestions for eating out and for shopping, some days we were happy to return to our "home away from home" and enjoy takeout chicken in the cool of the evening. The farm is somewhat isolated from busy roads (a plus for us), and thus is quiet and tranquil. From the hilltop location, you overlook the orange orchards and enjoy great views toward the mountains. The farm is great for animal lovers, with horses, several agreeable and non-aggressive dogs, two cats and a clutch of roaming chickens. Dawn is heralded every day by the crowing of the resident rooster. Susaan and Ricardo will leave you alone if you want privacy, or will be happy to chat if you want to learn more about Chile. In our case, we wanted to learn and had numerous discussions. One night we even went out to dinner with our hosts. Since we don't speak Spanish, it was a nice change to be able to converse with English speaking residents (rare in Chile). Breakfast was substantial and varied. Ricardo brings everything each morning promptly at 8 A.M., and you can eat at your leisure as the sun clears the mountain tops and breaks over your deck. Small extras were appreciated.....a private mini-refrigerator to store any left overs or perishables, a shelf of maps, guidebooks and novels in English, bowls of freshly picked raspberries which appeared periodically. Summing up, it's perfect for anyone who prefers a tranquil, rural setting to a bustling urban setting. To make a stay work, a car would be a necessity since there is no bus service on the paved road at the end of the long farm lane. With your own transportation, you can come and go as you please, either staying "home" to relax or going out to explore. The farm is a great escape since you will be the only visitors (there is only one room). We liked it so well that we stayed an extra two nights. Susan and Ricardo have lots of repeat visitors. We plan to join that category in the future.

This is the real deal - a true taste of the serene Chilean countryside within 100 miles of Santiago. But this is not rustic. The chic cottage room and comfortable deck combine for a peaceful and private space to enjoy spectacular views of the beautiful surrounding farmland at the base of the Andes. The lovely pool and gardens provide a tranquil atmosphere for a leisurely breakfast, snoozing on the spacious deck, reading a book, playing with Susaan's rescue dogs, and munching on the home grown fruit. Both Susaan and Ricardo are perfect B&B hosts, unimposing but quickly available to show you around their paradise or direct you to a local restaurant.

We stayed here for four nights in January after two weeks of travel through Argentina and Chile, and were genuinely blown away. Chile Farms exceeded any expectations we had. The property is absolutely beautiful and Susan and Ricardo are incredible hosts! Most of our time was spent relaxing by the pool - reading or napping, or walking through the orange groves and playing with the rescue dogs. Susan and Ricardo organized an authentic Chilean lunch down the road that was delicious and a great experience! If you are looking for an authentic and relaxing experience, look no further. We hope to be back soon!

We just returned from a 4 night stay at the end of a 3 week trip to Chile and and we could not have enjoyed our stay at Chile Farms more. This B&B was the perfect place to get off the beaten path and wind down our time in that beautiful country. The room was well appointed, very comfortable and had great views of the surrounding countryside. A very nice breakfast was out for us each morning to get our day going. Then hanging out in the evening by the pool or in the papasan chairs with a glass of wine was great. Susan and Ricardo are great people who were willing to offer advise on places to go and things to do or just hang out and talk, but were never the "hovering"-type innkeepers you sometimes run into at small Inns. We had all the help we needed and all the room we needed. The place seems out of the way, but its near main roads so we took easy day trips to the beach (45 min), to a hot springs resort (1 hour), to Portillo at 12,000ft on the Argentine border (2.5 hours) and Santiago airport was only a little over an hour away. So if you are looking for a mellow, picturesque, out of the way place in that part of the country Chile Farms is the place for you. We'll definitely stay again when we're there.

This was an awesome Bed and Breakfast, mostly due to its location being smack dab in the middle of the gorgeous Chilean countryside and nestled in the foothills of the Andes. The food, location and hospitality were great. Each morning we were served a great breakfast, which we ate on the veranda as we looked out over the mountains and orange groves. We had great walks through the orange groves, ate wild blackberries, and samples other fruits and vegetables native to the area. The flowering trees were so colorful. We went swimming in a very nice pool, relaxing and talking. It truley was like being in paradise. I also had the opportunity to ride a horse through a canyon with panoramic views of the mountains and a small lake. I felt like I was in the old TV program Bonanza. I will always cherish the memory. The B and B was also very clean, very well maintained and most of all the hospitality of Susan and her husband Ricardo was great. And at night the you get great views of the southern cross. If you are looking for local color and and the real Chile, this is it. Put this outing on your Bucket List. It is a short drive from Santiago. Kathy R. 2/24/09

We stayed at Chile Farms for 3 wonderful days and nights in February 2008. The farm is out in the country giving you the Away-From-It-All feeling. We had our own room, bathroom, breakfast area, and pool. The weather this time of year was perfect for sleeping- cool at night-and enjoying the sunshine- warm during the day. Susaan and Ricardo created a relaxing, comfortable, and friendly environment. They were there for local traveling advice, horseback riding, or just to talk! We could not have experienced a better time in Chile while staying at this property. Thanks Susaan, Ricardo, and VRBO!
