Accommodations:  Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1 Bath (Sleeps 7)

We have had an awesome summer and want to thank all of our guests who made our first venture into renting our much loved cabin on VRBO so great. The comments and feedback have all been very positive and it has been a real pleasure to know others enjoyed and appreciated the love and attention to detail we have put into Turtleback Lodge. We had just one set-back... the storm on June 11th that took our tree that held the hammock and the swing and threw it into the lake like a tinker toy! But we like the new location for the hammock even better than the old location and we have planted a weeping willow tree out front that we look forward to watching grow. We have plans to plant more trees this Fall because that was actually our third tree to be suddenly lost to Mother Nature! We haven't found a new site for the swing yet but the porch swing is ready and waiting for you! We have put in a new sink, vanity and floor in the bathroom a few weeks ago. We are always mindful of maintaining the rustic character and and charm of the cabin when we make changes because, as many of you have told us, that is part of the tranquility of Turtleback Lodge.

We have posted the Fall/Winter rates and look forward to having many guests see why the Fall is our favorite season on the lake. The leaves in the cove and all along the lake are gorgeous when they turn all shades of red, orange and yellow. There is nothing better than a fire in the chimney in the BBQ house on a cool evening after a day of fishing or relaxing. Boats can be docked all year on site and there are many warm afternoons that are perfect for a cruise, even into the Winter months at times. And to doze off at night with a crackling fire in the large stone fireplace in the den... perfection!

Located on a private peninsula this rustic cabin is perfect for anyone interested in enjoying the tranquility of life on the lake. The cabin was constructed many years ago from trees that existed on the land and, although amenities and updates have been added, it maintains its authenticity. It is decorated throughout with local art, antiques and historic memorabilia including an old fishing boat perched in the rafters. Kick back and enjoy the sound of the water as it rolls along the bank...Relax in the hot tub as a cool breeze blows through the enclosed porch overlooking the water...Jump in for a swim (there may be a few more days to do that before the water gets chilly!)...Throw in a line for the many perch, bream, crappie and stripped bass that fill the waters...Watch the sun rise and enjoy coffee under the gazebo sitting over the lake...Fire up dinner in the separate BBQ house.....Search the nooks and crannies of the cove by the cabin's paddle boat...Curl up in front of a crackling fire in the large stone fireplace...Or head into town to enjoy some of the many local attractions.

Stay on site and enjoy endless fishing, paddleboating, sunbathing, grilling and relaxing. Local jet ski and boat rentals are available by the day. Or venture out and enjoy year round golf, local dining and other activities such as tennis, bowling, mini-golf, paintball, and biking. Visit some of the many local cultural activities such as the Greenwood Arts Council, Community Theatre and Museum. Be sure to check for seasonal festivals and celebrations. Drive a little farther... an hour or so...and find mountain trails, waterfalls, parks, concerts, and diniing and shopping to suit almost any taste and desire. Driving an hour and a half will take you to a totally unique wildlife park, safari rides and animals to include: Fallow, Sika and White Tail Deer… Zebras… Bison… Watusi Cattle… Scottish Highlanders… Donkeys… Emus… and more.

Bring along your furry friend and let him ride the paddle boat, swim in the cool waters or curl up under the swing on the porch. Your best friend is sure to be fascinated by the jumping fish, the cranes as they lazily take flight or just new places to sniff and run. Let tension go as you relax on the swinging bed in the cozy bedroom corner of the porch as the ceiling fan lulls you into dream land, relaxing to the sounds of frogs and crickets and the water lapping at the shore. As one guest commented about the swinging bed: "it's like being on a cruise because all you can see is water"!

Sleeping quarters include two bedrooms with double beds in each, twin daybeds in the den and the twin size swinging bed in the bedroom corner of the enclosed porch. A twin blow up bed can be fixed for an extra child. Each bed is made up, fresh and inviting with linens and towels supplied for your needs. Our full kitchen has all the extras we could think of, including a blender, coffee maker and all sorts of drink glasses! For cool mornings you can knock off the chill by firing up the gas log heater in the kitchen.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 1985

We inherited the cabin from Mart's parents and love every inch of it, making improvements whenever possible so that the cabin offers everything needed to make it the perfect place to relax or play. We live about ten miles from the cabin so we are able to be available to guests if there are any questions or needs. The wonderful comments and feedback from our guests have made us feel that others see all the love put into the cabin through the years. Mart is a full time farmer and Beverlee is a retired RN. Married for 37 years (YIKES! We don't even feel THAT old!!), we have celebrated more family occasions and events at the cabin than we can count, so it holds a huge place in our hearts.

Why the Owner Chose Waterloo

Turtleback Lodge was built on land bought by Mart's father when the lake was being built! If we were in the market for a get-away on Lake Greenwood we feel there could not possibly be a more perfect location. Having water on three sides gives us privacy, security, access to the 'big water' and the quiet and SO much more. It is a unigue peninsula and a unique cabin and we feel blessed to own it. When you are sitting in the hot tub or lying on the swinging bed, the views of water all around give the feel of being in the middle of the ocean! We have the ability to close off the outside world and completely relax. Being back in civilization with a short drive just adds to the overall convenience, whether there for a weekend or two weeks!

The Unique Benefits of this Cabin

Turtleback Trail is a private drive and, at the very end of the seven- tenths of a mile road, Turtleback Lodge. With well over 800 feet of shore line, the cabin sits out on the peninsula facing the ‘big water’ and having the quiet mouth of the cove at the back. A stay at the cabin can be as active or as tranquil as desired. With a private boat ramp there is no driving off site to get your boat into the water (except in the middle of winter when you may have to put your boat in off site). Year round you are able to dock under the covered floating boat dock, built with a wide side to allow sun bathing and relaxing, with a ladder at the end for swimmers. The cabin is child friendly as well as having extremely easy access for our guests who may find it difficult to climb stairs. There are no steps into the cabin and the walk from the cabin to the dock with the gazebo is short and only a slight incline. We have had friends who have physical limitations find the in and out stairs at the main swimming area also easy to use. For years Christmas trees have gone to a new home on the bottom of Lake Greenwood, around our floating dock. These weighted trees have formed great places for fish to hang out just waiting for you to wet a line. There is nothing better than a mess of fish cooked fresh at the lake- yum! The cabin is close enough to civilization to run out for pizza or to the store for supplies. But close enough to nature that you must drive slowly down the drive at night because deer are out in numbers, along with red foxes and rabbits and all sorts of four legged creatures.

    • Serenity at it's best!!!!  Our stay was the most relaxing trip we've taken in a long time.  The rustic charm of the log cabin was delightful, while still having all the conveniences of a modern condo.  The peacefulness of the surroundings made for a very restful night's sleep  The lazy days were filled with a cool breeze blowing off the water, while we enjoyed watching the boats, fishing and jet skiers go by from the gazebo.  Can't wait to get a few days to "get away from it all " again.  Thank you for an enjoyable stay that was second to none.

    • MY FAMILY TOTALLY ENJOYED THEMSELVES. THIS IS A VERY UNIQUE CABIN. YOU CAN FIND SOMETING NEW EVERY DAY. MY GRANDAUGHTER SAYS SLEEPING IN THE SWINGING BED IS LIKE BEING ON A CRUISE SHIP BECAUSE ALL YOU CAN SEE IS WATER. THE FISHING IS GREAT. WE CAUGHT 2 LARGE CATFISH AND 32 BREAM..ALL FROM THE FLOATING DOCK. THIS WAS JULY 4TH WEEK WHEN THE FISH ARE NOT USUALLY BITING. BEVERLEE IS WONDERFUL TO RENT FROM. SHE MADE SURE WE HAD EVERYTHIHG WE NEEDED AND EVEN HAD A NEIGHBOR BRING US A NET SO WE COULD GET THE BIG FISH ON THE DOCK. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A FUN PLACE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY AND A SAFE PLACE AS WELL, YOU NEED NOT LOOK ANY FURTHER...THIS IS THE PLACE!
