This cottage boasts magnificent ocean and garden views from the decks, which span three sides of the house. You can watch the sun rising out of the ocean right from you dining table! This is a romantic, honeymoon hideaway!
We also have a second rental view listing VRBO #338806 for our redwood Passionfruit Home Condo. A little more affordable this lovely one bedroom sleeps four and also has a private garden and ocean view.
This home offers 650 square feet of living space, and is beautifully furnished with tropical and Hawaiian decor. The kitchen offers a full-size refrigerator, a four burner stove, oven, microwave, dishes, pots and pans, a blender, coffee maker, and purified water, among other amenities.
The living area has a private phone line, cable TV, a VCR/DVD player, CD stereo, high-speed wireless internet access, and a Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar CD collection. There is a roomy bathroom with a full-size tub, and a dining area.
There is a large bedroom with a king-size bed and one, very large, loft bedroom with a queen-size bed. The home is very cool and comfortable with ceiling fans and portable air conditioning, along with refreshing ocean breezes!
The guest house overlooks a tropical garden full of fruit trees, avocado trees, and flowers scenting the air and soothing the senses. Many of our guests talk about the many birds they see and hear singing in the morning!
There is a private drive entrance, and a private entrance to the cottage. Additional amenities include a laundry facility and a gas barbecue. A sauna house (dry or steam) is located by the main house.
When you arrive, we will provide you with tropical flowers, and a welcome basket of fresh fruit from our organic gardens, and Hawaiian goodies!
We are in an agriculture area, so you can count on peaceful and quiet relaxation. We are centrally located on Kauai, so you will minimize travel time on your day trips across the island. Also, we are conveniently located behind the Kapaa by-pass, so you avoid the late-afternoon traffic. We are minutes from all the beaches along Kapaa, as well as great restaurants, shopping, luaus, and many great spots.
We offer our guests a tour of our permaculture estate - showing them all the interesting fruit trees and vegetation we grow, and how we go about growing a lot of our own food year round.
We supply our guests with an in-house guidance map and booklet to all the very best places to visit, things to do, and restaurants on Kauai. And we usually sit down with our guests for personal guidance and tips. The unit is also stocked with reading materials on Kauai, including hikes around the island.
Often our guests take a sauna and get a fabulous Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage from Jai! For anyone interested, one of our neighbors offers yoga classes three times a week.
We provide all kinds of beach gear like snorkeling equipment, boogie boards, beach towels, beach chairs and umbrella, etc. If you want to swim with turtles, we will direct you to the best spots!
Our guests always rave about their stay, and thank us endlessly for helping them make their vacation so wonderful and perfect. We hope to have the opportunity to help you on your ideal vacation, as well!

My husband and I spent our honeymoon week here and had a fantastic time. The cottage is charming, tucked away in a lovely and private garden setting. The house had everything we needed for our adventure filled week! Guidebooks, island info, an easy kitchen setup, plenty of closet space for our clothes, and, (although we didn't use it much), a great TV/DVD setup, all under a canopy of lush plantlife. We nicknamed the house 'the treehouse' - it was so unique and cozy. The location is perfectly central to all the island has to offer,( although a car is necessary). Kapa'a is a great home base, and allowed us to take advantage of both the north and south shores. There is so much to do on the island, but were always happy to return to the cottage to relax and unwind after our long days of exploring. Jai is a warm, thoughtful and gracious host. She brought us delicious fruit and gave us some great tips as we settled in. She was readily reach-able if we needed her, but she also allowed us total privacy for our stay. A fantastic balance! Highly recommend.

Great Jumping Off Point for Beautiful Kauai!
Great Jumping Off Point for Beautiful Kauai!
We stayed here on our honeymoon, and being first time VRBO renters we were a little worried about places on here being legit. and this one is! We stayed in the cottage and it is exactly how it looks in the pictures. Jai was very nice, friendly, and helpful, and let us have our privacy. The fresh pineapple was delicious! The bed was firm and slightly dipped in the middle, so, if you like a firm mattress, it's for you! There is a washer and dryer up by the house, but there was a fee for each load ran in the washer and the dryer. This really was an awesome jumping off place for Kauai. We had tons of things to do every day, so we could just pack the cooler, walk 15 feet to the car, throw our stuff in, and go! We would recommend going to Queen's bath. When you get to the bottom of the trail, there is an inlet right in front of you that tons of turtles swim in and out of the whole time you are there. Super cool! All around great place!

Owner response: It was lovely to meet you and be able to host you this year for your Honeymoon Chelsey and Celeb. I am so happy you enjoyed the privacy and convenience the Cottage afforded you. As pointed out in the binder I had placed for you in the Cottage, the Cottage has its own Washing machine, a (brand new one), on the front deck of the Cottage that you can use for free anytime you wish. There is a cloths line also on the front deck as well. Yes, I do charge a very nominal fee (about half what you would pay at a laundromat) for the use of the gas dryer but the solar dryer is free! I only recommend Queen's bath in Princeville when there is no surf on the north shore. It can be a very dangerous place in high surf and is generally passed over by us locals for this reason. I am so glad you enjoyed your stay.
A wonderful retreat
A wonderful retreat
I was looking for a quiet place where I could write, where I would not be disturbed by neighbors yelling or partying. I could not have found a better place. It was beautiful, surrounded by lush gardens, the cottage itself was very comfortable, well appointed, with everything you could want provided, even a washing machine. It rained a lot the week that I was on Kauai, but when the sun came out the lanai was gorgeous. This is a perfect place for a retreat. If you are looking for a place close to the beach, you will be disappointed, but it is a short drive to a nice beach. On hot days, you will get cool trade winds through the house. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a quiet place to relax, enjoy Hawaii, and have a base for hiking, sightseeing, and exploring.

We had the most amazing and relaxing vacation on Kauai. Jai's cottage was perfect for us. It was quiet and secluded and perfectly located for enjoying all of the island's treasures. Everything was clean and comfortable. The beautiful garden and fresh greens and fruit were just some of the very special touches that we enjoyed. Thank you, Jai, for sharing your slice of paradise with us.

My good friend and I stayed at the Cottage for a couple of overnights in March. We were seeking a base from which to do lots of outdoor activities - hiking, kayaking, exploring the Island of Kauai. Jai was a wonderful host, we felt like we were at home from well before our arrival. For those looking for a more rustic, nature-drenched, non-resort experience the cottage is wonderful. Very centrally located on the Island, and just away from the main-street bustle of Kapa'a. We tried to eat totally local Kauai, fresh eggs, greens, fruits and veggies from the garden below surely helped in this effort! A quick trip to the local grocer on the way completed that for wonderfully delicious home-made meals and to-go lunches. We loved our stay, our only disappointment was having to leave. Mahalo - we fell in love with Kauai and very much looking forward to visiting again.

Beautiful jungle oasis!
Beautiful jungle oasis!
My partner and our 4 month old spent a week in this beautiful space. It's much more lovely than the pictures convey - the location is a ways out of the town of Kapaa, past the residential area and into farmland, and on the way to great hiking inland, or up to the north beaches. The property itself is situated on a lush ravine that has been lovingly sculpted into a blend of wonderfully heady jungle, organic gardens, hidden paths and ponds full of life. Jai is a perfect host - she was so welcoming and informative, available to answer questions and chat about Island life, and gave us lots of space to feel we were the only ones there. She responded quickly about an issue with the washing machine and was so very thoughtful to provide little touches that made travelling with our babe very easy. The cottage is stocked full of items I might have forgotten, and there are abundant linens, soaps and condiments. Everything was clean and the king bed was super comfortable (we didn't use the loft, though it would have been fun if we were travelling with close friends or family - the bedrooms are open to each other at the ceiling). We would very highly recommend this to couples or families.

Our anniversary - Perfect!
Our anniversary - Perfect!
If it is seclusion & peace you are looking for - you have found it. We were looking for just that. This was our second trip to Kauai and we were so pleased with our choice in properties. We like being away from the crowed resorts and this place delivers in a big way. The home itself has just about everything you could ask for and is the perfect spot to use as a "jump off point" for all of Kauai's wonderful activities - From, the North shore with beautiful Kee Beach to Hanalei to Kilauea Lighthouse to the amazing Coconut Coast with Lygate Beach, Smith Tropical Luau and river tour, to all the waterfalls to tubing down the rapids at an old sugar plantation to the beautiful South Shore with Poipu Beach, spouting horn, gardens and the stunning Napali coast - Oh do not forget to go to Barking sands beach! We love Kauai and we loved staying here, The gardens at the property are stunning - I kept saying to my husband that I feel like we were in a "LOST " episode because it was so secluded and lush. The property was clean, well maintained, wonderful guest book with suggestions, fully equipped and wonderful views. When we come back to Kauai, this will be our #1 choice. Mahalo Jai for sharing your wonderful & beautiful sanctuary with us. Just perfect! :) Michelle & Tony - Upstate NY

Owner response: Michelle and Tony I am so happy you enjoyed the Cottage and the gardens. They have been my life work and it is wonderful when their beauty and seclusion is appreciated . Thank you so much for you kind words and I am so glad your vacation here at Honua Lani Gardens turned out to be just what you needed. I hope you can return again soon for some more R&R.
We stayed in this house during our honeymoon trip and had a really great time here. The house offers everything you might need and is located very private in Jai's wonderful gardens. The location is also perfect for trip to the north and the south of the island, so if you are an explorer, this is perfect for you. Thank you Jai for the warm welcome and the fresh fruit from your gardens! The property is really nice and the house itself was very clean and in a good shape. Would definitely recommend this one!

Relaxing trip to Kauai
Relaxing trip to Kauai
My wife, two daughters ages 1 and 5 and I spent a week at this property and enjoyed it very much. Jai is a lovely host, very helpful, gives a wonderful massage, and brought by beach toys, children books and playpen for the children. Our girls were right at home and very comfortable in the cottage. Our 5 year old loved the loft bedroom. We hosted a BBQ for my brother and his wife on the balcony. There is a very nice trail down to the gardens from the cottage. The cottage is set in the trees and very private. It was perfect, just what we were looking for.

Great Private Vacation Cottage
Great Private Vacation Cottage
My boyfriend and I ( who became my fiance on this trip) stayed here in June 2011. Great location, very private and secluded. We enjoyed picking fruit in the botanical gardens and indulged in a wonderful couples massage by Jai and her associate. Jai was very accommodating - I requested candles, flowers and champagne on our arrival, and we walked into a vacation oasis. I even left a pearl necklace behind and she was kind enough to send it back to South Carolina for us. The foliage around the cabin was beautiful, the king bed was comfortable and the option to have a full kitchen was great, as we where able to bring back leftovers, cook our own breakfast and pack lunches for a day at the beach. The snorkel and beach gear where in great condition and very useful. We are more outdoor types, so the expense and hype of a resort didn't appeal to us. I would most definatly come back here again- wish we where there now! Niki and Jon

About the owner: Jai Roberts, Honua Lani Hostess I have lived and sustainably gardened this property for 30 years. It is a beautiful private garden estate. Our Guests enjoy Lomi Lomi massage in the newly built Massage Hale in the middle of the gardens and love the photo ops among the flowers, vegetable gardens, nature trails, and coconut lined ponds. I love to see how rested and content our guests look after a few days in our quiet natural pristine setting.
Why the Owner Chose Kapaa:
I love the east side of Kauai. It is equal distant from either end of the road and therefore my Guests spend less time in the car and more time enjoying the places and events they are going too. Also my Cottage and Gardens have the best weather on the Island. We enjoy night rains not day rains like storybook Camalot. In the winter we remain cool and dry and in the summer we sit in the trades and enjoy the breeze. The Ocean and its mile long beach Kealia is just down the hill and in town 5 minutes from the house are shops and great dining with lots of weekend festivals and markets.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Daily fresh greens and hawaiian fruits from our beautiful gardens, bike rentals, island orientation with guide book, private yoga classes, on-site spa treatments, including: Swedish massage and lomi lomi massage (Hawaiian style) by Jai, our resident LMT. We offer couples massage as well in our beautiful Massage Hale in the center of the gardens.Free beach gear (boogie boards, snorkel gear, beach mats, towels, cooler, chairs and umbrella) for your daily use.
