Enjoy a getaway on the peaceful, quiet River House on the Mississippi River. In the mornings the only sounds you might hear are the sounds of the birds. In the summer you will watch barges and riverboats go by. In the wintertime eagles are on the ice in front of the house. On this part of the river, Pool 13, there are many inlets for boating and kayaking. The area is known for its fishing tournaments, and there is a public boat launch 1 mile up the road. The wildlife and spectacular sunsets offer many outstanding photographic opportunities. The Thomson area is on the Northern Illinois Wine Trail, and it features many wineries with tasting rooms. There are many antique shops and quilting shops nearby. You can also enjoy the local orchards and live summer theater. Nearby are the Palisades State Park, the Ingersol Nature Center, the Thomson Causeway, and Eagle Point Park. Thomson is on the Illinois Bike Trail, and bikes can be rented in town.
The River House is a one story ranch house, and it sleeps 6 with 5 beds. The house has 2 bedrooms, plus an entryway room with a double futon. The master bedroom has a queen bed, and the second bedroom has two twin beds. An inflatable twin bed is also available. There are 2 full bathrooms. The house has a complete kitchen, central air, and a washer and dryer. In the winter a gas fireplace is available. Outside there is an eating area on the wrap-around deck. A gas barbecue grill is available and a fire pit for campfires.
The River House is 2 1/2 hours from Chicago and Madison, Wisconsin, and 1 hour from Dubuque, IA and the wonderful National Mississippi River Museum. It is a 45 minute drive to Galena for sightseeing, shopping, and good restaurants. In Galena, Cascade Mountain offers downhill skiing and snowboarding. It is also a 45 minute drive to the Quad Cities, a large metropolitan area that features wonderful museums, including the Putnam, the Figge Art Museum, and John Deere.
Whether you want to relax watching the sunset with friends, or whether you want to go sightseeing in Galena, our house will meet your needs. We live next door and will be available to answer any questions and make sure your visit is a very pleasant one. The River House is also for sale for someone who loves living on this beautiful river.

About the owner: My husband and I used the River House as our weekend getaway, before we moved here from the Chicago suburbs. We are both from the Midwest (Wisconsin and Illinois). I am a retired teacher, and my husband is a retired sheet metal worker. We lived in the River House full time while we were building our house next door. This area is really beautiful, and we enjoy boating, the sunsets, and the quiet, although we do head into Chicago frequently to enjoy theater and other city things. My favorite time here is in the fall and winter, when it is extra beautiful. People are friendly here, and the neighbors will welcome you.
Why the Owner Chose Thomson:
The River House is a great getaway. It is only 2 1/2 hours from Chicago, which is very convenient. It is a quiet, relaxing place on the Mississippi River with a spectacular view. Since the house has a wrap-around deck overlooking the river, you can eat outside and enjoy the fresh air and the view. The house is on one floor, and there are few steps to worry about.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Since the house is on a wooded cul-de-sac, the area is very peaceful and quiet. Yet nearby there are many wineries, quilting shops, and antique shops to enjoy. Boating on the river is wonderful.
