Tower Hamlets house description
The front of the property has suburb River views over the River Thames, there are no passing cars, no fumes etc., just tranquil tidal waters teaming with fish and wildlife. The occasional passing ship or cruise liner slowly sails by, as does the River bus on route every 15 minutes East to Greenwich or Westminster up river. Catch this at Canary Wharf Pier.
The other side of the property has green lawns in a residential Private Square filled with mature rose bushes, many trees and seating, affording the most charming and private of holiday locations.
Here each house has it's own private parking space, off street, adjacent, which is included within your booking. The house has 3 double bedrooms, 2 of the beds are king sized and one is a double, these are supported by 2 bathrooms. The top floor bedroom has a bathroom en-suite with a large bath with overhead shower, a bidet, a marbled vanity unit with wash basin and a toilet. At the other side of the room is the large bed and a private balcony overlooking the River Thames. There's seating and a table on the balcony so you can relax and while away the time watching the changing watery scenery, perhaps sip something cool. You will see the cormorants, gulls and passing ships.
The sailors on the Navel vessels often line up along the length of the ship in their formal dress to welcome and salute the docks as they sail past. Quite a sight really.
The 2nd floor has a bedroom at each side of the house with a bathroom in-between. This has a large shower enclosure with power shower. These two bedrooms on this level, one has a river view and one has a view of the private square gardens. All very quiet even though you are nearby the hustle and bustle of town.
The international exhibition centre “EXCEL EXHIBITION CENTRE” is 12 minutes away by either train or car. You can choose to set up your exhibition stand and then travel into this location by local train.. We have many returning guests who come each year to visit this centre. They get to know the area, the smugglers inn nearby 'The Gun' which is 16th Century and nowadays a thriving restaurant. They get to know the local pubs such as 'The George' at Crossharbour station. There are so many fine restaurants, we like 'The Gun' as it's very good and only 100 meters walk away from our garden gate, along the Thames pathway. Along and around the waterways at Canary Wharf are so many good places to dine with a choice of international cuisine. There are places for children too and of course you can dial up for free delivery of Indian, Mexican, Chinese, Thai., and a host of burger and pizza places.
The house is nearby the trendy, busy financial world of Canary Wharf.,with it's restaurants and shops and provides excellent light and airy accommodation for up to 6 people, maximum. The rental rate given is for 4 people only and varies by £100 for each additional person to a maximum of 6 people. There's FREE WIRELESS INTERNET, PRIVATE PARKING and a full satellite package supplied by the 40' HD TV.in the open plan lounge. So whether your interests are Australian Cricket, Wimbledon Tennis, a Premier football match,International channels in various languages, or you wish to watch the news from where you come from, you can record it and watch when it suits you. A 2nd TV is in the 3rd bedroom on the 3rd floor (not satellite).
As would be expected given the close proximity to the City, there are plenty of excellent local restaurants to suit most palates. Nearby Billingsgate Fish Market ensures the very best of seafood.
An excellent Indian Restaurant is within easy 5 minutes walking distance and we have negotiated a 10% DISCOUNT for our guests. Also, a second Indian restaurants nearby South Quay train station, allows our guests a 10% discount. There is a 3rd Restaurant. full details of how to book these are given in the house.
This house offers a special retreat in a quiet private square, with the outside of the square being the property frontage, overlooking the River Thames. An ever changing view from each of the 3 levels. On the first floor you will find the large long open plan living area with a picture window taking up most of the wall, overlooking the River Thames.
In the centre of the living space is the dining area with strong solid wood seating and an oval dining table, seat up to 6 people. Then you have the kitchen area which has a breakfast bar with two high stools. The kitchen has a full sized dishwasher (we supply dishwasher tablets) a full sized fridge with a freezer top section, a cold drinks cabinet, a washing machine which dries also, a double oven cooker with 4 hob plates plus a griddle side on the top. There's a large toasting area to the oven unit and we have a small toaster also, along with an electric coffee percolator, a microwave oven and all really that you would expect for a comfortable holiday home from home.
The famous Billingsgate Fish Market is nearby for the best catch of the day! Need to get there for 7.30am. They close at 8.30am. The fish from here supplies the whole of London’s restaurants, from 4.30am each day. You can buy small quantities though to suit your needs. after 7.30am. They also serve brilliant breakfast of fresh smoked haddock with eggs.
For Groceries you will find all that you will need at our local supermarket which is 3 minutes walk from the house in Stewart Street. This opens at 7.30am each day and closes at 9.30pm., except on Sundays when it closes at 4.00pm. Then there are larger supermarkets such as the TESCO's across the road from South Quay Rail Station, this store is open till 11pm. A large ASDA supermarket is about 10 minutes walk.
There is a large print map prepared for you.
There are lots of local tourist attractions and a superb selection of speciality shops in nearby Canary Wharf. Here also you will find picnic areas in landscaped gardens with waterfalls and fountains, a very large selection of eateries and clothing shops. It's a very rich area, teaming with financial traders who live and work in the area.
We have many fine Restaurants nearby, not least is the 16th Century Smugglers Inn, 'The Gun' which you can see from our garden gate, just a short 3 minute walk away. In the other direction from the house is a notable Indian Restaurant that allow our guests 10% discount off the bill. (Details in the house) There are others too who provide this discount. Indeed, with a thriving business community we have many good eateries to suit all purses, too many to mention here, some are listed on the owners web site www.vacationsinlondon.com
Located in Zone 2 of Central London's Underground Network, there's lots to do and see. Getting around Town: With so much to see, we have excellent transport arrangements.
Traveling around town is a breeze, literally. The River Bus operates during commuter hours and there's also the Central London Underground, particularly the Jubilee Line. So one can be wisked off to pastures new, in minutes.
Nearby there’s Canary Wharf, Greenwich, The Tower of London and Tower Bridge. It's the cheapest tube fare for town and very easy to reach everywhere in town from one of 3 local train stations, all part of the Central London Underground Network. It all depends on which direction of town you wish to travel to.
Also, there are Red London Buses, (Pick up point is right outside the square) Black London taxies, or the River bus which picks up from Canary Wharf Pier every 15 minutes. This is my favourite method.Travel up river to Westminster Pier, stopping at Tower Bridge Pier, then the Embankment (for the London Eye) or down river to Greenwich.(Royal Parks and Museums) The 3 local tube stations are 'South Quay' and 'Crossharbour' or 'Canary Wharf' on either the DLR Line or the Jubilee Line. both part of the Central London Underground Network.
I must not forget our local “Boris Bikes”, so named after our flamboyant Major of London. It was his initiative to install these bike docks all over town, possibly every half mile you will find one. Just £1 buys you half an hour’s bike travel. Then dock the bike somewhere else in town. The first half hour is free, so if you are smart you could cycle for 25 minutes, park the bike, wait 6 minutes and then take another bike for the next phase of your journey. 30 minutes covers a lot of ground in busy London streets. Cars are required to purchase a ticket to cover the congestion charge of £8.50 per day. Consequently, there are less cars in town. There are clearly defined cycle lanes everywhere and its very popular.
We can accept bookings direct., by credit card, (VISA or MasterCard.) or on line with this listing via credit card. Also, by English cheque or bank transfer.
To hold the dates you require, we take a £200 deposit and then the balance becomes due 2 months before your arrival. We supply our guests with a confirmation of booking document which confirms all the aspects of the booking and the accommodation. Nearer the time of arrival we supply our guests with general directions from each of London’s airports and main hub train stations.
We hope you will get in touch, a quotation for your stay is quick and we would love to hear from you.

The best 1st trip out of the U.S.
The best 1st trip out of the U.S.
The trip my parents and I had to London as unforgettable. I chose to rent this home and it was the best location. Not too far away from the "busy" area, but just far enough and calm enough. The view was amazing from all floors, the cleanliness, organization of information for new-comers, and lay-out was beyond amazing. There was s much helpful information there, it was ike I had lived in Canary Wharf for years. The weather was gorgeous for us to do our tourist thing, and the "tube" maps and eatery suggestions given by Christine were also helpful. It was fun to talk to the neighbors and be able to st in the courtyard outside the townhouse. My parents and I enjoyed all the main attractions, as well as some of the little pubs. We enjoyed walking the dock and seeing the dinners on the water. I suggest to anyone to take the river tour, walk the westminister area, and make your way to picadilly circus for entertainment. Always remember to keep your Oyster Card on you, becausI believe th tube train is the best way of transportation. This was also in my notes from Christine. I was so surprised at how many things were organized for us, it was remarkable how much a person took the care and consideration to set up books fortheir visitors. I would go back again. . definitely. Thank yo again for the stay. . my parents will always remember their 1st trip out of th U.S.

Our visitGuest comment entered by manager
Dear Christine, I enjoyed my stay at your lovely vacation home for our 10 days earlier this year. We all quickly adjusted to the busses, ferries and underground and were able to visit most all of the places we wanted to see including sights out of London such as Warwick Castle and Stonehenge. We enjoyed the Tower of London and Greenwich and found a number of restaurants and pubs to our liking. We shopped the grocery stores successfully, cooked 3 or 4 dinners and all our breakfasts in your efficient and pretty kitchen. Your tour books, albums and notes were of great help and went a long way to getting us “into the picture” very quickly. It was so nice to have a home to come to at the end of our busy days. Arriving from a pretty warm California, I feel a little guilty about thoroughly enjoying the rain and snow, but it really didn’t stop our enjoyment one bit. We were able to see Billy Elliott one evening with perfect 4th row seats purchased at the last minute that day. On a couple of half-days, I elected to stay home to do a few chores and enjoy the view and watch various projects being worked on and just “kicked back” all by myself. It was lovely. Thank you for your gracious help with our little queries. I surely would recommend your rental. I’d not been to East London before, but have read many novels describing how The Isle of Dogs used to be and marveled at the beauty it has become. Warmly, Joan

Excellent 3 bedroom
Excellent 3 bedroom
The clean 3 bedroom apartment is set in a quiet neighborhood on the Thames with a view of the O2 Arena. The description of the apartment was spot on. Since we stayed for 9 nights the housekeeper came after 4 nights and cleaned the apartment and changed the linens. That was a bonus we did not expect. The entertainment system was excellent and the wifi was sufficient especially since we had to contact people after the Boston Marathon. We were able to enter the apartment early which was nice especially after a long night flight to London. Obtaining the key was easier than expected. We chose to walk to Canary Wharf every day to catch the Jubilee line. It was a nice 15 minute walk, and decided it was easier than to walk to South Quay and catch the DLR only to have to change to Jubilee. We also chose to have our main meals out so we did not use the full kitchen facilities. The 3rd floor bedroom was the largest and the best so put your dibs in early! We have stayed in Christine's apartments before and have recommended them to our colleagues.

Manager response: We are fortunate at this house to have several modes of transport available. The red London buses are fine late at night after the Underground has stopped service, there is a bus service that stops right at the square, but they are too slow during the day, given the traffic. My preferred method is a little more expensive but it’s traveling in style. The river Shuttle Boat picks up at Canary Wharf Pier and travels with the seagulls, along the Thames stopping at "St Katherine's Dock" at Tower Bridge, then at Embankment for the "London Eye" and other cultural locations such as Southbank Theaters. Lastly, it stops at Westminster Pier, all in all it taking about 15/20 minutes with the stops included. Lastly, we have the Docklands Light Rail which you can catch at South Quay Station. This is the closest rail station to the house, being just 5/6 minutes away. Two routes West, alternating to Tower Gateway (Tower Bridge) or to the heart of the City of London, Bank Station, every two minutes, “Bank” is where most other Underground Lines cross so it’s a hub for connections. Outside this station though there are lots of places to visit, not least St Paul's Cathedral. However, as with Patrick, should you choose to walk to Canary Wharf, passing South Quay rail station, cross over the road, walk through the buildings and find the labyrinth of waterways with the “mini Manhattan which is Canary Wharf” nestling in the middle. Here you have some 200 Shops and eateries to explore, as well as the Docklands Museum and many ships in dock there. The Jubilee Rail Line connects here. From South Quay, alternatively travel to the East and you quickly arrive at “The 02 Arena”, Greenwich and also Stratford where you can explore the new Olympic stadiums and Westfield Shopping Centre. Happy holiday, regards Christine
A wonderfull queit retreat in LONDON yes.
A wonderfull queit retreat in LONDON yes.
Riverside does exactly whats it in the name. A clean spacious house with picture windows overlooking the Thames and Dome. Now when I say overlooking the river the seawall is less than 15 metres from the front door ! Apart from the property itself is the location in a quiet square away from main roads with parking. The light railway is a 5 min walk and one stop to Canary wharf. The perfect city retreat so comfortable I look forward to returning.

Manager response: We are very pleased to receive this review and to know that the property delivers what we claim. My housekeeper and I work hard to ensure that our guests are accommodated in the most comfortable way, really we prefer for our guests to return year after year. This group of folk have done just that for 6 years now and always book on departure for the next year. 2014 is already booked for them, for 10 nights. We have been renting this property for 10 years now and there is natural wear and tear. We always ask for feedback on departures so that we can take account of our guests comments when our annual plans and budget are scheduled for redecoration and the purchase of new replacement furniture. Each year we advise our returning guests on these changes and upgrades made in-between their bookings. I would say that about one third of our bookings each year are returning guests, from last year or the year before. Kind regards Christine James
This was a wonderful place to stay. We've been there for 6 nights and it was a great time in this lovely house. The view on the O2 Arena and the river Themse from the panorama window in the living room is amazing. We found everything we needed in the kitchen and the bathrooms. We would come back and stay in this house and also highly recommend it to others. Thanks for a nice week in London.

Our London Stay
Our London Stay
Christine was very prompt in her response to my emails and very helpful in answering questions we had about London, transportation, etc. Booking was easy and smooth. This large home is a bit outside of town, but easily accessible to public transportation. After a short walk to the DLR, you can be anywhere in London is a matter of 10-20 minutes. It is spacious and clean. Christine had left some beautifully decorated cupcakes for our arrival. We had a few bumps along the way with regards to running water in the shower (it stopped mid shower on 2 people in our party) and upstairs bathroom. I emailed Christine and at first didn't get a response. She is organized and has a book with her contact information and once I called her, I got her live, and she gave me some instructions over the phone, but we still had problems the next day. We then went to Paris for a couple of days and when we returned there was a tin from the Queens Jubliee filled with yummy cookies. It appears that she had to call a plumber and once a few things were fixed, we did not have any other problems with the water situation. She is responsible landlord. Our train to Paris left very early (5am) and that required us to get up at 330am local time. We tried to be as quiet as we could, but the neighbors pounded on the wall a few times and yelled when they heard our alarm. We were very conscious and aware of the time and that some folks live there and have to get up for work, etc. but we literally felt uncomfortable to even speak (thin walls). Also, sometimes, we left early and arrived late and again, felt because we were in the middle of 2 other flats, that we needed to be very quiet. It's hard because there were 6 of us (4 teens). Everyone was excited about the days events or the next day of travel and we wanted to be respectful of the other tenants, but we just didn't feel relaxed at times. Christine does a great job and we loved being able to make our own breakfasts and pack snacks and spread out. London is very expensive. We appreciate her prompt attention to the challenges we faced. This could be the perfect home base for your vacation, but I am not sure it was the perfect location for our family.

Manager response: It has been a very hectic period in London, arranging a garden party across 5 gardens with the neighbors in time for the Queens Diamond Jubilee weekend. However, we always find time to bake and all our guests receive a "welcome" with a home baked item put in the fridge for them to enjoy with a nice English cup of tea. We have been renting our property with Homeaway for some 9 years now I think and I have never received comments regarding noise. It's generally a quiet location. I was sorry to receive the comments re. mine, particularly when 3 weeks later we all socialized together at our joint Garden party for the Jubilee. It was brilliant! My neighbours didn't say anything about this incident and were kind and gracious as per usual. Christine James - Owner - Manager

Had everything we needed.
Hi Christine Had a great visit, we found your property had everything needed and was positioned well for the transport etc without being too noisy. The Gun was hard to faault for meals but you do have the " river walk" to walk it off after. Would recommend your place to any of our friends in future that are coming to London. By the way loved the view which is great for photographic buffs. Regards Michael & Yvonne

Tolle Aussicht, gute Anbindung
Tolle Aussicht, gute Anbindung

About: Hello everyone, having worked in London from a young age, I grew accustomed to travelling in and around London and after a few years I chose to settle as a single business woman in this vibrant area of London. They were very exciting times with marbled skyscrapers popping up everywhere and new restaurants to try and new transport links. I drove into town each day and found that this was a convenient location with a wow factor of the river frontage. With off street private parking at the house and the area full of local attractions, this was indeed a find. Then I met my Partner, he lived in the Midlands of England, so I duly moved. However, not wishing to part with this lovely house the idea came to me to rent for short periods. Thus, I would have a foot in the area when I wished to visit. I have family in the area and so this arrangement has proved to be very beneficial to all, sharing the wonderful views and tranquil waters with my new and returning guests.Check out the Special rates apply for same month bookings, where dates are still free.
Why Tower Hamlets:
This house struck me as soon as I cast eyes on it. I was not looking to move but immediately had to buy it. It has been a very happy place to live and now my guests can enjoy the ever changing river views and wildlife. My local housekeeper looks after it for me and we both work hard to ensure our guests are made as comfortable as possible. The business has blossomed over time, so after a time we found we were turning away guests, so we purchased another property nearby, this time a two bed, two bath apartment which we also gained a 4* certificate for the comfort and self catering facilities. The English Tourist Council, inspect each property every year and grade again. 4* certificate every time for each property. They also check that the current regulations are being adhered to and insurance is in place and that everything is as it should be for the Travel Industry. I have been a member of their association for 10 years now. You will find our properties listed in their web pages on their site www.visitengland.com, through our 10 year association with them.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The unique benefits for this house are: Superb River views; local transport connections are excellent; local tourist attractions; good restaurants; quiet private location; quiet streets away from the main traffic areas; good bus service; local London Theatres; Royal London markets. Private off street Parking. More recently, we now have the '02 Orena' for live concerts; the New 'Olympic Stadiums' and the supporting new shopping centre Westfield, at Stratford; not forgetting the new Bike Hire Service from outside the private square. Just £1 per half hour to travel across town and park the bike up somehwere else in another docking station. Please visit our dedicated web site where we have posted lots of links to the main areas and attractions. www.vacationsinlondon.com I have seen many sights on the river, a beached Whale, a mother and daughter Dolphin lost, they swam by and ended up at Westminster Pier; the Queens Jubilee last year, all the magnificent tall ships sailed by to moor at the end of each day in Canary Wharf locks. We have many returning guests each year and some of their reviews can be viewed here and on our own web site, noted above. I hope to hear from you soon. (Note: We offer 10% discount off the weekly rate for same month bookings! ) Happy Holidays. regards Christine James
