Wonderful holidays

One week with the complete family, away from our daily lives and problems, droped on this island lost in the middle of the ocean, it was a real break. Hidden waterfalls, foggy lakes, deep forests, peacefull beachs, wild ocean. Sharing this as an adventure with wife and children was so great: I think we will all have memories for the rest of our lives. Of course, the house where we were installed was the good place: clean, cosy, quiet, central place to visit the island. For sure we will recommend Dominica and this house to our friends. And we hope to be back one day. Vincent

We stayed only 3 nights but felt very much at home. A very well-equiped kitchen, beautyfull bedrooms, quiet surroundings and the most helpfull housekeeper are just a few advantages. The island is beautyfull and the people friendly. The only things we could wish for are a dishwasher and aircondition.

Wonderful, modern, well equipped apartment

Beautiful modern, secure apartment in Massacre, just a few miles outside Roseau. Despite Jean-Claude's directions, we did have a little trouble finding the apartment as some of the roads are not very obvious. Loved staying in a very untouristy village, using the local corner shop and bakery and chatting to the friendly locals. Also enjoyed the local church gospel singing and sermons! Apartment was very well equipped, spacious and had a lovely verandah to the sides and front. Also large, lockable gates to add to a feeling of security. Merlyne, the housekeeper, was wonderful; very friendly and helpful and full of useful information. If we needed anything, she would respond very quickly. We did have a car (would recommend a 4x4 if you are driving very far - the road on the Caribbean side is pretty good but in the east, north and centre it often deteriorates into potholes and sometimes you're not sure if you're driving on a road or a farm track!) and this was very handy for Roseau, which has many restaurants and cafes. Mero beach -about 20 mins away - is a great black volcanic sand beach with safe swimming and lots of cafes/restaurants where you can watch the brown pelicans diving for fish. Would also recommend going down to southern tip as this is very pretty and good for swimming. Owner also recommended Screws Spa, inland near the waterfalls, which we visited and enjoyed - 5 pools outside fed by a hot stream. Lovely and relaxing. We also spent 10 days on the northern coast so explored that area from Calibishie but you could reach most places on the island from Massacre although the roads are not always good and some are very windy, so it can be slow going. We did of course go for the heat and sun but the only downside for us in the apartment was that it got rather hot in the afternoon and early evening; there are portable fans which helped but maybe ceiling fans or airconditioning could be considered. All in all, a lovely stay on a beautiful island - we would recommend it.
