About the property

Secluded high quality cottage near Lulworth Cove

Little Glebe has been converted to a very high specification, and has been designed to provide superb cosy country accommodation for either four adults or a family. Solid oak has been used throughout to give a luxurious feel alongside high quality furnishings and fittings. There is central heating throughout. The property has its own courtyard and garden which ensures complete privacy from the main house. there is an additional small lawned garden There is a barbecue, table and chairs.

On the ground floor a spacious hallway and boot room gives plenty of room for outdoor clothes and muddy boots. The boot room also houses a washing machine.

There are two double bedrooms downstairs, each with an en-suite bathroom. Bedroom One has a shower and Bedroom Two has a bath with shower over. We thought a bath would be welcome after long coastal and country walks or if you have small children.

Bedroom One has two singles that can be converted into a king size – just tell us which you prefer before your stay. Bedroom two has a double bed.

Both rooms have private garden views.

On the first floor you will find a large open plan room with character beams and French windows that open onto endless country views across the fields. There is a well equipped modern galley kitchen with a dishwasher, fridge, cooker and microwave, as well as a dining area. The far end provides a cosy living area with a gorgeous warming log burner and a large TV, DVD player and music centre. Bring your own music, films and books or feel free to choose from the library we provide.

Little Glebe is fully centrally heated. Cotton bed linen and large fluffy towels are provided.

About Sue Hyde

We are Peter and Sue Hyde. Peter's family are local farmers who have lived and worked in this area for seven generations. we have two adult sons who both continue in farming and countryside vocations.

Sue Hyde purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Sue Hyde chose England

Our lovely home in Winfrith Newburgh sits above the village in airy, secluded beech woods. We built Little Glebe to be a holiday home that could share this superb location, but also retain it's own sense of peace and privacy. Then we furnished it with soft coastal colours and natural oak throughout to make the inside feel really special!

What makes this cottage unique

Little Glebe is an 'upside down' house, with two cosy en suite bedroom downstairs. This enables visitors to enjoy sweeping views across the surrounding countryside from the upstairs French windows.

Our sheep, hens and dogs complete the delightful rural environment, and deer, foxes, owls and badgers are regular, but shy nightime visitors.

Great Location & cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Little Gables. Location is ideal for walks around the area. Or you can drive to various seaside locations. The welcome pack and friendly welcome were lovely personal touches. The cottage was very warm and cosy. I would recommend

Owner's Response: So glad that you all enjoyed your holiday in Dorset, but hope you meant Little Glebe rather than Little Gables in your review! ... please visit again ...

Lovely cottage with welcoming hosts

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cottage. Sue and Peter make sure everything is ok. Highlights to see are durdle door and corfe castle. Also nice are tropical gardens in Abbotsbury and Sandworld in Weymouth. We could cook perfectly fine in the cottage, but there also are ample nice pubs nearby. Tearooms in Moreton highly recommended for cake, scones or lunch! We had a wonderful time!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to leave such a lovely review. Good old Moreton Tea Rooms - always a brilliant choice... and then you can walk down to the river past the beautiful church with astonishing engraved windows by James Whistler...

Comfortable, stylish and full of useful and homely touches.

  • 5 of 5

We had another wonderful week staying in Little Glebe. With, mostly, great weather we were able to explore new beaches and National Trust properties. The park in Dorchester is fun, with plenty of nearby tea rooms for mum and dad. We're still on the lookout for great fish and chips. We would highly recommend Dorset in general and Little Glebe in particular. Sue and Pete are excellent, welcoming hosts.

A very well appointed modern property in a lovely location, with the very friendly owners next door only too willing to impart useful local information.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review. We are so lucky to live on the doorstep of the stunning Jurassic Coast - a World Heritage Site, and our nearest pub, The Sailors Return has had many excellent reviews of late.

Views, charms and rooks

  • 3 of 5

The property is well located - an easy drive from Lulworth and within reach of many other Dorset places of interest - and set in a lovely spot with great views from the upstairs living room. There is a nice garden - but the property is overlooked by a large rookery so it is noisy outside in the morning and evening. The bedrooms, bathrooms and utility space downstairs are all good. Upstairs there is a pleasant sitting area with the views, but the kitchen and dining areas are quite narrow and under sloping roofs which is restrictive. There were three of us - not sure how four adults would sit at the table for a meal. Good range of kitchen equipment and a lovely and practical welcome pack too. It is a gentle walk into the village - past the interesting local church - and the village has a well stocked local shop with good opening hours and a couple of pubs.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind and thoughtful review. Oh dear - we love our rookery, and in common with many people have always viewed their calls as a classic part of the countryside soundtrack. The young rooks leave their parents nests in May, so this might be why you were more aware of them? As to space upstairs, we are very happy for guests to move the dining table to a different part of the room if they find the eaves height too restrictive. Many people prefer to have the table in front of the french windows so they can enjoy the stunning view over the fields and valley.

Car: recommended

Winfrith Newburgh is just two miles from Lulworth Cove on the stunning World Heritage Jurassic coastline and South West coast path. It is nine miles from the county town of Dorchester and 18 miles from the more bustling conurbations of Poole and Bournemouth. There is a friendly local post office/village store and three pubs nearby. If the weather’s good you may not get further than the local coastline and beaches, but then you’d miss out on other fabulous locations such as Corfe Castle, the Cerne Abbas Giant, the Tank Museum, Monkey World, the Blue Pool, Swanage Railway, Sherborne Abbey, Portland Bill and many others…
