We have been married nearly 30 years now and our children aren't little any more. We live in the city, but our real love is the open spaces. We enjoy everything about the kayaking, fishing or just pulling up on a sandbar and spending the day. Although Sam loves the outdoors, she does not like to "camp" and the cabin reflects her has all of the comforts you can wish for...
Owner purchased this Cabin in 2014
Why Owner chose Springfield
When our children were small we had a small cabin on the Boat Basin in this time. We spent as much time as possible there and many of our best memories are those where we were swam off sandbars, fished and enjoyed the wildlife.. There was an old dilapidated farmhouse on the bluff at the edge of town where we would park to look over the river. We liked the property so much that we started writing the owner in 2004 to see if he would that time, his dream was the same as ours..... return to build a new home there. Regardless, I wrote him for several years in hope he would change his mind. During 2014 I attempted to reach him again and found he had passed away and his children had the property. We were very fortunate they were willing to sell it to us. We drew up plans of our dream home and spent the next two years planning and finally building. We can now sit on the porch or in the hot tub and look out on the most incredible of views. This is really a magical place.
What makes this Cabin unique
We love to watch the wildlife from the house. Many times there are deer on the river islands. There isn't a day that goes by that eagles and many other birds fly right in front of us. The house sits approximately a mile from the state park and golf course. The state park has a fish cleaning station, a dock to fish from and two boat launches.

This home is very nice and clean with beautiful views of Lewis and Clark lake.
Well stocked with all of comforts of home. Great kitchen!
Enjoyable and unique property
We rented Jon's vacation home for a few days in mid June and it was a very enjoyable experience. Good timely communications from Jon and access to the property was very simple. Great room concept with the kitchen, dining area and living room in one area. The small room with the garage door was very unique, the whole front of the house is set up to take advantage of the panoramic view of the river.
We spent 3 days at the home. The kitchen and three season porch were highlights. Great views from the three season porch. We love to cook - the house is well equipped with all we needed and the kitchen is well thought out. Only downfall for us was the inability to watch Week 1 of the NFL. The home has Roku, but we couldnt find local channels. Not a huge deal as we werent there for TV watching. The Roku programming was filled with options if one wanted to watch TV.
We visited Ashfall Fossil Beds and took a hike at Nirobrara State Park. Those were well worth the trip. Downtown Springfield was very helpful - good food at the local grocery market and Norms had a good selection of off-sale liquor for cocktails.
Jon was in contact with us and offered advice for day trips. We were very happy with our stay.
Beautiful home! Great views of the water across the road. Amazing kitchen! Boat rentals 20 minutes away, you do have to return boat by 7pm so we couldn't rent it for the weekend. We took the 20 minute drive each morning but we had a great stay.
Great property, beautiful location!
Well kept property, very nice kitchen and great room gathering area. Had fantastic small family reunion here with 4 kids and 4 adults. Enjoyed the house and nearby Yankton immensely.
Had a great time!
Went up for a fishing trip and had a great time. Very clean and great location right next to the river. Boat ramp was close right in the state rec area in Springfield. Good golf course as well and an easy shot over to Yankton.
Located in along the Missouri River/Lewis and Clark Lake, there is abundant wildlife and excellent Walleye, Catfish and Bass Fishing. It is also a short drive to Yankton SD, Ashfall Fossil Beds, two Casino's, and numerous golf courses. The town is flat-so very good for bike riding. There is also a public swimming pool in addition to being able to hang out on the sandbars.
