A lodge on the Warteloo battlefield, imagine yourself sleeping in the heart of history.

The Hougoumont farm gite is a comfortable duplex apartment.

It is comfortably furnished and decorated in an English style where everything is there to remind you of the history of the place.

Located in the middle of the battlefield of the time, and with no close neighbors, your stay will be under the best hospices.
The Hougoumont farm is located in the town of Braine-l'Alleud, in the Walloon region, in Belgium, it stands in the middle of what was the field of the battle of Waterloo, the last battle of the Emperor Napoleon 1st . It is open to visitors and houses a lodge with a capacity of 4 to 5 beds.

The Hougoumont farm gîte is the ideal place to stay to discover the history of the Battle of Waterloo. You will be able to shine in the surroundings and visit all the historical sites of the surroundings.
This is a unique opportunity for you to spend the night in the middle of the field of Napoleon's last battle. It has 2 bedrooms (sleeps 4/5), a dining room - living room, an equipped kitchen, a shower room and a separate toilet.

Since spring 2020, an educational farm has also been installed there.

A message with arrival and departure instructions will be sent to you by the host a few days before your arrival.

The entire experience and spending a night at Hougoumont was unbelievable. It was fantastic.

The farmhouse was amazing. To have the entire house to yourself was a real experience of a lifetime. Being able to go out in the courtyard and/or walk to the museum and restaurant was a bonus. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Cedric. We booked and travelled from Australia and would recommend the experience to everyone. It is a must.

This is the only place to stay for a Waterloo battlefield tour.

The location is everything. There are restaurants near by, but we elected for self-catering, which gave us more freedom and time to investigate the locations associated with the Waterloo campaign.

Well, what not to like ? You have the location, the ability to enjoy the farm outside of visitors access. Lot of space, complete kitchen, great beds, atmosphere... Just wonderfull. On site staff service is limited but that goes with the territory.

Lovely venue.

Fabulous place to stay in the midst of a very historic site. Quiet once all the visitors are gone except for the occasional camper. Comfortable beds/mattresses Kitchen reasonably equipped with fabulous cookware. All very clean and tidy. Wonderful restaurant available walking distance away 10 minutes thru footpaths in fields. EV charging points also available in same town.

Historically amazing and very private

The location and apartment has an unbelievable significance to the history of the Battle of Waterloo. Anyone who is a history buff would be thrilled to be able to stay there and surround themselves in this location. Beautifully staged, very quiet and comfy to relax and visit.

Staying at Hougoumont was a long held ambition four our group and it was not a disappointment. The accommodation was a perfect base for a full tour of the Waterloo battlefield. For us being able to stay in such a historic setting was an honour. I would highly recommend it.

History Alive!

Fabulous place to stay in Waterloo (near Brussels) with east access to the highway. The house is an updated (read completely modern) apartment on the original farm from the battle of Waterloo. A short walk to the Lion and museum, beautiful sunrises and sets over fields. The apartment was perfect for a family of 5! Thank you for a memorable stay! Great place to come home to and unwind after visiting the sights of Belgium.

Interesting stay in atmospheric surroundings.

Comfortable and peaceful apartment looking both into the courtyard and over the front of the farm, where much of the fighting occurred. Numerous books are provided to encourage a greater understanding of events. Freedom to roam the grounds, especially once the small museum had closed for the day, was most appreciated. Good views across the area and and an easy walk to the excellent main museum started to give an understanding of the geography of the battlefield. Easy drive to other museums.
