Luxury family friendly holiday cottage in the heart of the Cotswolds - Church Mews

Church Mews is a former library built from classic honey coloured Cotswold stone which sleeps four guests (no children aged two or under permitted), in two well-appointed bedrooms, with a family bathroom and cloakroom. On the ground floor you have a beautifully presented open-plan living area which has been elegantly styled to create a contemporary yet cosy home away from home. Character features such as high vaulted ceilings and painted wooden beams beautifully complement the modern design, and there is off-street parking readily available for one car in the private car park at the front of the property.

Accommodation
This grade II listed two bedroom holiday cottage in Painswick is perfectly suited to a small family or a couple who are looking to explore the local countryside and eateries. The accommodation is laid out as follows:

Spacious living area with high vaulted ceilings, three-seater leather sofa, leather armchair, Smart TV with Now TV and Sky Movies, plus a soundbar
Electric oven with electric hob, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, four slice toaster, kettle, Nespresso coffee machine (with initial supply of capsules) and a Roberts radio
Dining table with seating for six
Cupboard off the living area contains a fabric armchair, chest with a selection of books and an ironing board

Great stay

Loved the property, beds were delightfully comfortable and property was super warm. Reasonably well equipped though was missing enough pods and some basics. Smelt a bit weird in some spaces but overall a lovely stay and looks exactly like the photos. The location was excellent too - so good to be right in the heart of it all.

Not for the elderly

If you are elderly or disabled I can’t whole hearted recommend this property. Check the description carefully.”We contacted the agency prior to booking querying the suitability of the property as being ok for a person with mobility issues but were not sufficiently warned of the problems.

Nice stay in a lovely village

We hat a very good time at Church Mews. The place is spacious and nice to look at. Kitchen is very well equipped and they even left milk, wine and cookies for us. There was a washing machine though not really a space where you could dry the washing.

Highly recommend this lovely cottage

The cottage is in a perfect location, in a gorgeous village. Perfectly situated for many local walks. The town has a couple of pubs- (we highly recommend The Oak) and a couple of restaurant options. The cottage itself was larger than expected and stylishly designed. Perfect for our Easter stay. The welcome bottle of wine/ biscuits was much appreciated, as was the nice touch of fresh flowers! Only tiny recommendations to improve would be some sort of shelving unit to put washbags on in the main bathroom, and somewhere to hang some clothes- both points that previous reviewers have recommended. The off street parking was appreciated (although the town car park seems to be free of charge at the moment too) Thank you for a great stay- we would definitly return

Restful stay

Lovely place to stay in a great location - even the weather was kind! Well appointed and comfortable. A few minor maintenance points, which we reported, but nothing which affected our stay. Would highly recommend.

Lovely to return

We stayed last year for our wedding week and found the house to be perfect! We were too busy with family to spend much time at the property so returned for our wedding anniversary. Absolutely perfect, and even better than we remembered! Very nice property, everything we needed for cooking, appreciated the treats left on check-in, comfy and cosy, love the mezannine!

A September Stay at Church Mews

Overall we enjoyed our stay in Church Mews. Its USP was its location for walking parts of the Cotswold Way (close to a bus stop), walks from the apartment and being in the beautiful village of Painswick. It was well equipped, warm, comfortable and quiet. However the apartment itself was dark with the main room mainly looking at a wall and both bedrooms only having small windows. We had good weather but it was hard to appreciate it if you were inside, fortunately we were out walking every day. Like other guests we feel the outside needs tidying up a bit, including around the bins. The next question is 'Would you recommend this property to others'. We have put 'yes' because of its location but it is a qualified 'yes' due to the light levels and outdoor space.

Great Location, much roomier than pics

We had a lovely time, in a great location, you can see the Painswick church out of the window, and hear the bells. Much bigger than it looks in pictures, with very very high ceilings. The main room is huge. Everything was clean, new and comfortable. We would come here again, great value for money. The mezzanine is a part of the main room, so might be tricky if you are separate people and not a family sharing. Would love a shelf in the bathroom, and a normal French press, as not everyone likes a Nespresso machine.

Cosy Cotswolds

We felt very much a home in this cosy historical cottage in a charming village. It was clean and nicely decorated. Comfortable beds with puffy duvets. There are a few good restaurants in the village (we especially loved The oak) and everything we needed for cooking our own meals was there.

Brief holiday with friends

We had an enjoyable stay at Church Mews. We found it a bit claustrophobic because the bedrooms had no windows and the heat that week was intense. Otherwise all good

Central apartment in pretty village

Overall, very pleasant. No outside space, but so close to the beautiful church yard that wasn't an issue. Both bedrooms are very small, and because the upstairs room is a mezzanine, you all need to have similar nocturnal habits- you wouldn't want someone getting up at dawn and clattering about in the kitchen if you're hoping for a lie in. The Woolpack in Slad is great, and the Falcon was fine.

A lovely mews in the heart of a beautiful village

We found our stay at Church Mews to be fabulous . Very cosy cottage with excellent facilities in the heart of Painswick. Great parking and some lovely pubs and restaurant to have dinner .Very close driving to all the beautiful towns in the Cotswalds . Would definitely stay again at this accommodation . Would recommend some shelves in the bathroom to put your toiletries and some hanging rails under the stairs for clothes

Loved our stay

We loved staying in Church Mews, it was a very comfortable house, especially for a somewhat rainy weekend. Shopping is in Stroud, within 10 minutes driving. For Saturday night dining possibilities in Painswick in summer, I would say please make a reservation! Painswick is great for hikes, and also a convenient location for Cotswolds sightseeing!

Beautiful accommodation set in a sweet town

Brilliant little holiday accommodation in the Painswick. Really lovely walks which you can start from the property and great food at the Falcon Inn just 5 minutes (if that!) from the property. Ideal that there was a dedicated parking space for our car, located within a free car park if you do have a second car. Home was clean and tidy and had plenty of utensils and cooking supplies. Clear instructions provided in the welcome pack and a lovely welcome basket on arrival. The upstairs bed is a metal bed frame which is quite squeaky so not ideal if you are a light sleeper, otherwise bed is really comfortable with nice clean bedding. Overall we had a really lovely stay here and it was perfectly peaceful, would recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in the Cotswolds.

Lovely short stay

Church mews was hidden away in a corner but great for us. Shop pub restaurants about, clean and welcoming a little cold in November takes a long time to warm up. Nice welcome pack.

Comfortable and modern cottage

We loved our stay. The location of the cottage is very convenient, near to amenities and easy to access other places by car without steep and winding roads! Lots of walks from the cottage locally (though more information on these in the cottage would have been helpful). The cottage itself is spacious, clean and modern with a touch of luxury in the furnishings. The kitchen was well equipped though a grill tray would have been useful. The information folder does need some updating in terms of the bins which are behind a gate with a combination lock - the code would have been useful. Would not hesitate to stay again or recommend to friends and family.

Perfect getaway spot

We had an amazing trip here, perfectly situated and a lovely property. Good amount of cooking equipment and always helpful having a washing machine when walking. Bedrooms are cosy and not much hanging space but really liked the mezzanine style master. Updated information on the bins would be helpful in the welcome pack. We couldn't get the plates to fit in the dishwasher so use the square ones!! We can't wait to come back, hopefully over the winter

Amazing Cottage

Perfect for us, a family of 3 adults. Painswick is so beautiful and quaint with a short bus ride yo Stroud. Will definitely be back.

An excellent weekend retreat

Church Mews is located right in the centre of Painswick and very convenient for walking,resting and simply enjoying a weekend in the country.The accommodation is very well fitted out, well maintained and has everything you need. One of the double-bedrooms is a little small but is very acceptable for a short stay period.

Perfect spot in perfect Painswick

A very comfortable stay at Church Mews for a long weekend in Painswick. All creature comforts provided and the location couldn’t have been better, right in the heart of the town. We’ll definitely be coming back!!
