Town: Located on the outskirts of the Peak District and only a few miles from Matlock, Wirksworth is a small but charming market town. Beautiful architecture, such as the town's splendid parish church, gives Wirksworth a lot of personality. The Puzzle Gardens' historic "jitties" and courtyards are popular tourist destinations, as are the adjacent Heritage Centre and the beautiful scenery, which includes Carsington Water, Black Rocks, and the High Peak Trail. All skill levels can enjoy rock climbing and cycling here, and the walking is superb. During the month of May, Wirksworth celebrates the distinctive Derbyshire tradition of Well Dressing by combining it with a colourful carnival.
