Why Chris Hicklin chose Siesta Key
I come from a family with close ties to Southwest Florida and throughout my early years visited relatives in the area every summer while I was in school. On my 16th birthday, still living in New York but spending the summer in Florida I announced that I would move to Florida when I completed my studies. 3 months after taking my degree at Life College I moved to Sarasota with my new wife and started our family here. I purchased the beach house from old friends, he a retired World War 11 United States Navy Captain and she a writer. I could think of no better place to raise our children and to spend my life, it has been a dream. Living on this barrier Island...Siesta Key... is wonderful.
What makes this House unique
The house sits on sandy seaside bluff, on a dead end street, at the end of a wooded 300 foot driveway, a mere 30 feet from the sea. The elevation is without parallel, the ground floor elevation is 14 feet above sea level which affords it a one of a kind perspective on seaside living. The property is very private, truly a one of a kind tropical paradise.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Don't even hesitate. You will love this gem!
I like to keep my reviews quick and to the point.
* Location, location, location (on the quiet south end of the key but close enough to walk beach or take Jimmy into Village). We loved having the option to get away from all the tourist chaos and have a quiet sanctuary at the end of the day. *The home is charming and historic with captivating views from the home including master bedroom (entire 2nd floor), dining room, living room and deck. The gazebo overlooking the ocean is worth it's weight in gold. Hours and hours can be spend listening to the waves, watching the dolphins, bonding with family and friends, watching the fisherman and wildlife - truly priceless to have your soul rejuvenated. The beach comes and goes with the tide. Tread lightly as the rock surfaces can be slippery. Go exploring alone or with family; lift some rocks, shells galore (we think better than Sanibel). It's ever-changing. Everything is in this home to settle right in (I made Christmas dinner without a hitch). Convenience are here without intruding on allure. * Customer Service. Chris treats people the way he would want his family treated and it shows. From the beginning until the end - amazing! Perfect experience/communication/location - charming, memorial home, without hesitation - exactly how perfect should be.
Cons: We can't stay forever! :D
Charming and felt like home!!
My wife and I stayed here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was by far the best place we have stayed in our many stays at Siesta Key!! We have stayed several times at Tropical Beach Resorts and Palm Bay Club. Both of those places were very nice as well. However staying here provided us with the seclusion we wanted. It was absolutely everything we had hopes for. The first step inside the home it was obvious we were "home". It was such a charming place and we had no concerns or letdowns. We unfortunately had to put up with the weather of Hurricane Hermine....but let me say the house if SOLID. There were no noises which made us feel unsafe at any time. This is testimony to the house standing strong after 100 years!!! We are looking forward to planning another stay!! Chris and Vickie...thank you!!!
Wonderful stay at this vintage beach house with incredible Gulf access and views!
My husband and I stayed at the beach house from July 23-30, 2016, with our son and daughter (ages 21 and 17), and our nephew, age 16. Chris was very responsive to all of our inquiries, and stopped by to visit us and share great stories about the history of the house and the area.
The house is very clean and comfortable, with many amenities available. The decor is vintage cottage, which adds to the charm of the house. The location on the Gulf is amazing! We spent many hours sitting under the gazebo at all hours of the day watching the birds, boats, parasailers, dolphins, fish, and the surf as it hit the rocks and beach. The house offers a very private setting, very different from the condo crowds at Siesta Beach. We had area friends over for evening meals, because we just didn't want to leave the house--particularly at sunset! The beach and rocks at the house are also great for shell seekers!
While in the area, we took a drive down to Cape Coral and Sanibel, walked Turtle Beach to find shark's teeth, walked to Siesta beach to enjoy the white beach and look for shells, went parasailing in the Gulf right in front of the house, and went offshore fishing with Captain Rob Roberts, recommended by Chris. All of these experiences were wonderful and very convenient from our great base location at the house. The easy drive from the airport in Tampa was scenic along the coast.
We had a wonderful trip, and definitely recommend the house! Our kids are already talking about wanting to come back!
Great view. Cottage needs work.
We don't believe the cottage had been cleaned before our arrival, and there was much evidence to support that. Not only that, but there are many improvements that need to be made as the price point is up there. While it is a 100-year-old property, I would still not expect rust on towel bars and vent covers, along with black tape on the hearth bricks and cracked kitchen counter laminate. It's understandable that the sea air is hard on properties in this area but, again, replacement of some things is a necessity. Having said all that, the view from the gazebo is outstanding.
Dear Mrs. July 16th. I am terribly sorry that you were displeased with the houses cleanliness. Please accept my sincere apology. All of my previous reviews have been 5 stars and I have multiple repeat guests advanced booked neary 6 months out of the year. Had I been made aware of any issue by either text, phone call or in person when I greeted you that first Sunday, I would have dispatched my cleaning crew immediately for a recleaning at no charge to you. My head housekeeper lives in the neighborhood, in fact 3 doors away and is available 24-7 to help with any guest issues. I myself carry tools with me full time and make a weekly survey of the decking and staircase for popped nail heads and such, I have lost the beach staircase several times to storms and the realities of rusted deck screws is a known issue for all of us living that close to the sea. Again, a simple text would have handled that deckboard occurance. The tragedy of all of this is the fact is that I live and work in a service industry within 3 miles of the house and pick up my mail there daily and I respond immediately to every guest need, when notified of any problem. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I will call and discuss your comments with the cleaning staff today. In the event that you two visit us again in the future, I will strive to make the visit a positive and memorable experience for you. Thank you. Chris Hicklin, owner
In Love with this Siesta Key Home
This is our second year in a row renting Chris' fantastic Siesta Key house. And we had another amazing trip. Family who joined us couldn't believe the perfect location on the bluff and the ridiculously beautiful sunsets from the patio. The privacy of the house on the rocks with Crescent Beach right around the corner makes it a truly unique location. Guests who didn't want too much sun could sit under the gazebo and watch the water. We had delicious fresh seafood almost every night from Big Water Fish Market (walking distance). Weather was perfect except for one day of rain--spent the rainy day at the Sarasota Aquarium. And the tropical storm brought the most stunningly perfect shells to the shore. Lots of take-aways to remind us of our week. Everyone had a blast. We will be back.
Perfect Getaway at the Beach! Charming and Cozy!
I cannot say enough about our 8 night stay at Siesta Key Beach House. From the moment I opened the door we immediately felt at home in this charming and cozy home. The indoor space is comfortably furnished with hints of charm everywhere you look. Beautiful views of the Gulf can be seen from many rooms of the house. The kitchen is well appointed and the washer and dryer was a great feature. My children were thrilled with the WiFi of course. The outdoor space is wonderful with a nice deck with lounge chairs for sunning as well as a beautiful tree for shade. I spent many hours reading on the deck as well as taking in the beautiful view of the Gulf. The outdoor shower came in handy as did the gas grill. The gazebo was the perfect spot for outdoor meals and for just simply watching the endless activity of the wildlife on the beach and in the water. We were treated to a constant parade of pelicans. egrets, countless birds and even the occasional dolphin. I would find myself losing track of time while sitting out there. It was incredibly relaxing, private and peaceful. The sunsets were nothing short of spectacular each evening. The house is within minutes of Siesta Key Village which we really enjoyed for shopping, for its many choices of restaurants or even just to stroll around in the evenings and get ice cream. Siesta Key Beach is right up the road but my family enjoyed the lesser known beaches all within an easy drive. Chris the owner was an absolute pleasure to deal with and was very patient with any questions or concerns I had. My family and I will be returning to Siesta Key Beach House for many years to come.
Our south Siesta location is convenient to Crescent Beach, Siesta Beach and Turtle beaches. Just a quick hop over the bridge to the mainland, and you are on highway 41.
Within a 15 minute drive are Sarasota Square Mall, Southgate Mall, the shops of Gulf Gate, and beautiful downtown Sarasota's arts and cultural activities. Just across the bridge from downtown is the lovely shopping and dining experience of St. Armands Circle.
It's a quick drive out Clark Road to the interstate, the activities of Tampa, Orlando and points south are all within an easy trip.
Other Activities: shell collecting, snorkeling, bird watching...
